Sierra isnt fat at all, very nice and lean, well muscled etc Brembo on the other hand puts on weight easily, when Sierra first came along he started back on puupyfood (Sierra used to eat out of his bowel so thought it easier to both have them on puupy food) and he put on 2kg in a month! The reason the vet was so interested in what they are eating is cos Brembo got misdiagnosed as having the first signs of HD at his last vets (only recently changed vets) and they had recommended we put him on supplements. When my current vet (who specialiases in orthopedics) looked at the xrays he felt that Brembo had no signs of HD. His reasoning behind Hills being better than Iams was that if we had small dogs he wouldnt of minded but that Hills was better for growing joints in bigger dogs. Brembo is about the same size and shape of a fully grown female RR (but male!). They also get the occasional bone and scraps (raw offcuts when I'm preparring dinner). Hi guys, just wanting some advice on which dry food you would recommend for 2 large breed dogs? We have a 6 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback desexed female (Sierra) and a 20 month old large crossbreed desexed male (Brembo, he is 35kgs). We currently feed Sierra Iams Large Breed Puppy and Brembo Iams Naturals. We previously had Brembo on Hills Large Breed puppy until he was 8 months old, then switched to Royal Canin Large breed puppy for a month, I wasnt impressed by it as he seemed to lose condition (but he loved it!) We then tried Advance (he hated it) and then Iams large breed puppy which he liked and he looks good also! We then put him on adult Iams when he was 14 months old. Reason I ask is that my vet has recommended that we go back to Hills Large breed puppy for both of them as he feels it is better for large growing dogs and that Iams makes puppies fat?? What do all you Large breed owners and breeders recommend? I just want whats going to be best for them both. Thanks in advance

Our Sierra (Rhodesian Ridgeback) was very fussy to begin with, so to help her get used to dry food we mixed in a tablespoon or 2 of cheap tinned food to flavour it and then lessened that over time until she would just eat plain dry food. Both my dogs love cheap dryfood (supermarket brands) and I also refer to it as junk food!! But they are both on premium as I feel it is more balanced for them. Just my opinion

We bought our Purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch from a reputable breeder and unfortunately she had an umbilical hernia. When my vet picked it up (breeders vet missed it) and I let our breeder know she was very apologetic and annoyed that her vet hadnt picked it up. She sent us a $50 cheque to cover costs of repair when we desexed our girl. I never cashed it as I didnt feel it was a problem and in the end our vet never charged us to have it repaired whilst desexing. I was happy with the gesture more than the actual money. And our girl has also been a bit of a regular at the vets (not the breeders fault - our girl is just a clutz and a bit of a hypochondriac (sp?)!!!!)

Have just been reading this thread and my heart goes out to you Anne and Sophie. You will know when its time.....until then enjoy Sophie's rolls in the park and her smiles. Hugs to you both

Thank you so much, I now feel alot better about Sierra's saggy tummy!! Spoke to the vet who reassured me (again) that she had just put too much stress on the internal sutures. So she is staying at Grandmas during the day until the sutures come out so she can be kept quiet.

Thanks guys, I'll give em a ring, just thought I'd ask first if anyone had any ideas on what it may be.

Please help! My 5 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback got desxed and an umbillical hernia repaired on Friday at our local vets. All was going well until this morning when the site around the sutures seemed a little red and puffy. So off Sierra went with Grandma to the vet and he reassured us all was fine and that she had just "streched" her internal sutures by jumping around and being an idiot like a usual 5 month ols puppy. I have just gotten home from work and looked at her belly and it looks like its hanging low. Is this normal?? Stacey
