  1. See - I have no standard on which to base them - was more impressed by their handlers outfits The xolo's looked shiny - do they look like that IRL?
  2. I just saw the 4 xolo's with their handlers in groups? They looked lovely as did the ladies in their matching suits.
  3. I just saw him! On ch 9 brisbane whilst the footy show was on.
  4. I agree with this here. I own a Rhodesian Ridgeback who at times seems almost hairless due to how short her coat is. 3 nights ago my male Brembo snapped at her for getting to close to him whilst eating his bone (yes she's a wench that likes to eat hers quickly then steal his). We heard a yelp, went and had a look at her, no visible punctures, scrapes etc. Went out later on that evening for about 3 hours, when we returned we noticed a small lump on her neck - sure enough a puncture wound from Brembo's canine. So out the first aid kit came at 9pm at night. Morale to the story is - we thoroughly checked her and know what we are looking for and still missed this wound so I find it quite credible that this womens dog was injured and it was not picked up straight away due to hair, lack of swelling etc. Pay the vet bill and make sure your aunts dog is properly restrained - either on a leash or behind a fence.
  5. My boy used to fence fight with the mutt next door at our old house. It got to the point that he would get so frustrated that he couldnt get the neighbours dog that he would turn and snap at Sierra. Neighbour was useless so we took it upon ourselves and double paled the timber fence. No more fighting or pacing cos they couldnt eyeball each other. Problem solvered! Sierra was also much happier - no more tooth marks
  6. I still prefer the first one. It feels quite dark and suicedy (i know, not a word ) and i really like it. Second one Im not as fond of, but i still like the effect. Good work iltby!
  7. Im so heartbroken to hear this news. RIP doggies, get better Jed, we need you back on DOL, we miss you
  8. Thanks guys for your replies. It's funny cos I still feel that Sierra is a puppy so to me it's weird that she is an aunty! I think I was more weirded out by the age of the sire, but when I looked at his pedigree the sire of him was 11 months old too at time of mating so I guess it isn't so strange. It's hard I guess to find a compromise when breeding large breeds cos they mature later but also decrease in fertlity earlier. Thanks again for your replies, I appreciate it
  9. Hello DOLer's, I own a large breed (Sierra, RR) who is desexed. I was just looking at her littermates online (as you do ) and her litter sister recently had a litter. She would of been approx 21 months old when mated and pups whelped when approx 23 months old. Sire was 11 months old at mating. Is this too young or am I overeacting? I thought with large breeds you waited a little longer for maturity? TIA
  10. Congrats to both of you. But you must stop winning awarrd cos by the time I get around to booking you for my wedding I won't be able to afford you
  11. Brembo was 14 months old when Sierra arrived as an 8 week old puppy. He hated her! She would try and cuddle with him and he would growl and walk away. He wouldn't tolerate her on the bed the same time as him etc. He went from being very puppyish to an old grumpy man overnight. It has taken 2 years to really cement their relationship and now it's all good. Having foster dogs through the house has helped being back the playfullness in Brembo but he is an old soul. In hindsight I think Brembo would of been much happier as an only dog but we love Sierra so she ain't going anywhere. Good luck!
  12. Brembo is just like my OH - easy going, laidback, happy just chillaxing and taking everything in. He has a really calm control over everything. Sierra on the other hand is very opinionated, stubborn, fussy, slightly neurotic and very lazy. It's always all about her. OH says she is just like me!
  13. I stopped taking my dogs there due to never being able to see the same vet and also a very serious mis diagnosis. The vet we weren't happy with was very young and obviously inexperienced. She diagnosed brembo as having severe hip displasia. She was also very dismissive towards my partner and I when we were trying to discuss future treatment options. I ended up getting a second opinion and brembo has been cleared of hip displasia and the second vet said they were the most poorly taken xrays he had ever seen. I now see Nigel or David at Logan villiage veterinary clinic and highly recommend them. They are also cheaper than city vet hillcrest.
  14. So sorry to hear bb, it's hard enough when they pass from old age but even harder when you aren't expecting it. Run free charm
  15. My mutt Brembo did this when we brought Sierra home as an 8 week old pup. We worked out it was a panic attack (sad but true). After an hour or 2 he was fine and got over it. She'll be fine
  16. We had a possum crawl out of our toilet at work today My poor boss was on the toilet, got up and flushed and the toilet wouldnt flush.....so she waits a couple of seconds and flushes again and next thing out crawls a possum. We had to get Pete the Possum man out to remove wet and stinky possum from our patient toilet (we work at a dental surgery) Sure gave us a laugh....boss wasnt seeing the funny side of it yet though ;)
  17. 1. What is my relationship with the breed? First time owner 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? South Africa, hunting dogs 3. How common is it in Australia? not really 4. What is the average lifespan? 10-12 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? aloof, confident, stubborn, sooky with thier owners! 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? 30 minutes daily, although she is very happy being a couch potatoe! 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? no, due to how stubborn they can be and their strength 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? no, they need human or canine interaction 9. How much grooming is required? weekly brush, wash every 6-8 weeks 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Sierra can be as she doesnt realise how big she is 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? dermoid sinus, hip/elbow, bloat 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) Parents should of had all applicable health testing done (hip and elbow scores), pups should be checked by a vet for dermoid sinus before leaving the breeder.
  18. Oh beautiful boy. We will have to catch up again soon.
  19. Erny, have you had any more news on Mandela?
  20. Erny I just came across this thread and read it all...I didnt know poor mandela was having any issues. I hope he is on the up and up and eating like a horse (or at least like a RR!!!) Good luck and keep us posted
  21. Sierra 9 weeks old Sierra 9 months old Will have to download some more recent ones, she now 14 months old!
  22. Update: vet has no idea what is wrong with her considering she has gained 800grams in 2 weeks. So I now have to give her Scourban. Do you know how hard it is to get 30ml of scourban down a 46kg rhodesian ridgeback? It aint easy let me tell you!
  23. Thanks, rijbiz. Sounds like a good idea, will get her some natural yoghurt for her bickies
  24. 12 days ago Sierra had gastro, diarhea for about 12 hours and then vomiting. I took her to our vet who thought she may have been a little dehydrated and performed a blood test to confirm/deny. Blood test results come back that she wasnt too dehydrated but her white blood cell count was a little high. Diagnosos: virus. Treatment: with hold food for 24 hours, shot of antibiotics, shot of anti-imflammatory and a five day course of antibiotics (Clavulox). The day after the visit to the vets she seemed to perk up, no more vomiting and no diarhea that I know of. Fast forward 10 days and Sierra wakes me up on Monday night for an urgent toilet trip, didnt think anything of it. Then last night she woke me up around midnight for an urgent toilet break. Got home from work this afternoon and did a pooper scoop and found 4 or 5 fresh cow patties. I rang the vet and the vet nurse has asked me to bring Sierra down tomorrow arvo to get checked out again. Can anyone give me any advise? Her diet hasnt changed (IAMS large breed puppy dry food) and we havent found anything suspious in our yard. She hasnt been off leash on her walks so cant of eaten anything she shouldnt of. Is it just a case of prolonged gastro or something else? Our other dog Brembo has been fine, no vomiting or diarhea. Thanks in advance apologies for spelling
  25. He is such a magnificint example of a ridgeback, you know i love him!
