Kyjen Star Spinner Or Nina Ottosson Dog Twister
fbaudry replied to Red Fox's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have Nina Ottosson Twister and Tornado; they both seem more challenging than the Kyjen spinner. I guess the Tornado without the little "bone" inserts would be of similar difficulty. Have you had a look at Wagsalot? From memory she was very reasonably priced... -
Hello and welcome to DOL! I entirely second Melinda's advice. I would take up your breeder's offer and learn how to do it yourself; as showdog said at 5 months it's high time she started to learn. Once you've had clear instructions, and with the right tools (coat king, thinning scissors etc...), you'll be able to groom your pup exactly the way you want it, and it's a good bonding exercise too (not to mention the savings over the years!). My 8 months old cocker loves the attention (as they all do!) and now goes and waits in the shower and stands patiently whilst I blow dry and groom her. Also, many groomers will go for the easy option which is to use clippers (Granted, it can be the only option is the dog's coat is in a bad way) when to me, it's a shame to get a long coated breed and not try and keep in the way it was intended. If you decide to go with a professional groomer, I can recommend Sue; she is a very respected cocker breeder and has her own grooming salon. Sooz Groom Room is located within That Pet Place at Dural (behind McDonalds). Monday to Friday ph. 02 9651 1439 BTW, pictures of your pup are mandatory ;)

All the best with your behaviourist appointment! I'm sure it will be extremely valuable and help you iron out the few issues you have with your little bundle of fluff. I am not sure you've looked into the protocol for relaxation? I've attached a link to it... It is a bit of hard work to start with but I've found it really pays off to teach a more "highly strung" dog how to relax and do nothing. http://dogscouts.org/Protocol_for_relaxation.html

Thank you Erny! I think I've been to most of the health food stores in the CBD with no luck Trying one more shop tonight and if they do not stock it, internet purchase it will be! Either I'll use the store you recommended Erny, or this site: http://worldpartea.com/shop/product/403.html

here comes the silly question... where can one purchase calendula tea in Sydney? I've been looking around shops in the CBD and I'm yet to come accross some

Awwww look at that little puglet! I am thinking of the snuggle BarkaParka for Will has he loves having a blanket over him in winter, but not sure he'd figure out how to slip under the cover Abbey is gorgeous too! Tara, that's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. Fuzzyard is off the list now, and off I go to investigate the BonoFido site ! I think the first one I posted has removable covers, which would make it easier for washing etc... Holly that's a gorgeous and happy Husky! thanks again!

resurrecting this thread as some of the beds around this house are due for an upgrade has anyone got the dog gone smart doughnut bed http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/21_34/products_id/2854 or the fuzzyard ones? http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/21_34/products_id/1231 Trying to weigh in the pros and cons... I'm also looking at BarkaParka but my two seem to like to have "sides" to their beds

My guys are on their own for 10 hours + on week days. On nice days, they are both in our small backyard (terrace house) with toys, treat balls, trampoline beds, kennels... On rainy days (because they won't use their kennels even though one of them really hates getting wet), Will has free run of the house with the cat. Penny (8 months) is confined to the bathroom with baby gate, because she doesn't hold her bladder all day (and I don't expect her too) Ideally I'd like to have a doggie door fitted, but considering we live in small open plan terrace, I'm not sure how I'd restrict them to one area of the house (and prevent the cat from going out)

I voted other as well; we live in a small inner city terrace (all open space) with a little courtyard. On nice days, they are both out in the courtyard whilst I go to work. On rainy days, they are inside. Will (Tenterfield Terrier) has free run of the house with the cat. He is much happier to be inside anyways (he tends to fret after a while outside and goes back and forth between doors), doesn't do any damage and can hold his bladder for 11 hours. Penny, 6 months old cocker, is confined to the bathroom with a baby gate and uses newspaper to relieve herself. The same goes if I go out of an evening, they are inside regardless of the weather. If I duck out to do some grocery shopping etc on a week night or the week end, they both have free run of the house. Ideally, I'd love to have a dog door put in and find a way to restrict them to one area of the house when I am at work so they can come in as they please and not leave paw prints all over the place (and also because Will tends to sleep on the dark blue sofa leaving white hair everywhere, which he never does when I'm home!) . I suspect they would spend most of their time inside except for a few naps in the sun and toileting...

and make that a +5

I really doubt Bully Sticks (or any other treats) would make it through customs....

Thank you guys! Stupid me didn't take into account the fact that chiro could be challenging / upsetting... Not so much of an issue with my pup, but my little foster failure was an abuse case and is really weary of being handled by strangers. Not sure how to go about that one

I was wondering if anyone had a good chiropractor they'd recommend in Sydney? I thought it wouldn't hurt getting Penny the puppy checked, and Rottifan's suggestion to Dju on another topic made me think maybe Will could do with a session as well (Feet licking / chewing with no obvious sign of allergy etc) Thank you!
-
Maybe I'm lucky then.... I placed my order on the 24/11, it was shipped 29/11 and I received it today! Now I wish I ordered more
-
Have you tried Wayne (Wayrod) in the commercial market place?
-
Aaaargh! Bummer.... does that mean they seized the whole order, or did you receive whatever didn't have food in it?
-
That is correct Trojka! And I am French :D
-
So do I! Thanks for the heads up Has anyone ever order the everlasting treat ball refills? I'm wondering whether they'd go through customs or not... They are so much cheaper than here!

Here is a link to their website: http://www.easternsuburbsdogtraining.org.au/ The membership fee is $30 for the year, and then you pay $3 for every class you attend; I just started last Sunday with my 4 months old pup!

Watching this thread with interest.... I'm in the Eastern suburbs and just started going to the training club at Centenial Park..

Would You Take A Class In Reading Dog Body Language?
fbaudry replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think that's a very good idea! I'd love to be able to read "my" breed better, let alone other dogs. I was just thinking about it the other day at puppy school when I couldn't figure out whether my pup was too hot / tired / uncomfortable with the situation... -
Will and Penny Will, Muffin (holidaying) and Sheherazade
-
Great pictures everyone! Pixie your Borzois are just divine! Charlie and Emm... Aaaawwwwww!!!!! and I love the Frenchies in action! Not quite a pack (until I get my puppy tomorrow!!!!) but Will (my foster failure), visiting Muffin (Silky x ) and Sheherazade:

Thank you for that! You're making me feel better about it... 3 more sleeps now Quick question regarding the rushed lunch-time trips home; I'll obviously will be doing these for a while but I am not sure how to make the most of them. Obviously she'll be excited to see me (Well, hopefully!) and I'll try to make my coming back as low key as possible (to avoid nurturing separation anxiety), but at the same time I feel I should be doing something to tire her out for the afternoon (training / play session / short walk). Do I run the risk of revving her up and making my going back to work in the afternoon more difficult for her to cope with? Sorry for all these silly questions ETA was Wikki able to hold his/her bladder all morning?
