Does anyone have some good exercises for weave entries? She was taught using a channel and we had no issues to start with. Something has confused her, and we've come to a point where she's so confused about the entry that she's totally lost confidence and doesn't even want to try. Once she gets into the weaves she knows exactly what to do and is very reliable and quite fast for a novice dog I was thinking of using a guide on the first pole mainly to build her confidence.

I've been approached by multiple people while training my dog on the local oval (obedience and agility) and have had many questions about not only the sports/activites we are doing but her breed as well. Just getting out and about with well behaved dogs, and being willing to answer questions is a start. Even walking around the lake last weekend - a family with a baby approached and the baby was pointing at the dog. I asked if he wanted to pat her, which he did, and they said they were going to get a dog soon. A conversation started about what breed, I was able to do a friendly promotion of purebred dogs and ethical breeders, and of course my breed

Dog Laws In The Australian Capital Territory

I just have padlocked gates with no sign. It's pretty obvious there are dogs in there if you attempt to get in as you'll get an earful -
I like Arrow I got a cav for my 5th birthday, and I got to name him. I named him Pokey after the Poky Little Puppy

Here's an old video of my boy and his clam shell pool....

Wow, you go all out for a trial

My "stay" and "wait" have gradually melded into one because I am a crap handler. But Ava seems to understand so I don't worry too much about it anymore. Body language matters more to her than words.

I do mine but not very often. I just use clippers on my younger girl who doesn't generally have any issues with it. My rescue boy HATE HATE HATES it so when I do his I do one at a time They are longer than I would like, but not too bad, so I tend to avoid the stress for both of us and only do them occasionally.

I am happy to admit that I used it because I was lazy

Dogs Not Recognising Members Of Their Own Species

I think it might be the white face rather than body... my girl's body is black but her face is white. Ava has a lovely 9 month old Brittany buddy at dog school and they go crazy together :p -
I really liked the harness My girl did eventually learn to pull into it, and it also rubs under her arms on long walks, so it only comes out now if I have to walk both dogs together in a new environment. I am glad it has helped you

Haha yes we did. Tollers and Aussies work well together... ;) :D

Mine love green bags because they know groceries (and therefore food) appear in them every so often We did a quick Open run through last night and while some of her work was pretty average, when I got the dumbbell out she perked right up and did the most beautiful, happy retrieves! I never thought I would get there but now I finally believe you TSD that you can make retrieving fun for a dog that initially hates it

Dogs Not Recognising Members Of Their Own Species

My white dog is a target too. Interesting. She's not big, nor intimidating. My other dog acts strangely around huge dogs, like newfies. He's large himself but he always has a quick bark at newfies until he has thoroughly sniffed them over! -
We have been doing some jump grids and this is certainly helping with the early takeoffs. She is starting to think about where she has to take off rather than just Supermanning over everything. I've also really started to think about how my handling affects her. If I get too far out in front (even in a lead out) she will attempt to jump early and flat to speed up. And I of course need to give her very clear cues at the right moment I am very reluctant to slow her down because she is not a super speedy dog to start with (she is relatively fast and shouldn't have any problems with course times but she is not faaaaaaaast). I have had a bunch of suggestions about physical causes including eyesight (she IS the tiniest bit cross eyed) and hips (chiro always tells me her right hip is out). We will keep practicing and see how we go. At our trial on the weekend she nailed all her broad jumps and spreads which have both been a problem in the past. She only knocked one bar the whole day in 4 runs, the second obstacle in the agility course (on a lead out). I am pretty happy with that!

99! Awesome work SLLH. Not training worked a treat

Ava and I got our first quallies today in jumping and pairs. What a good girl :D

*like* to your post, RubyStar :D We have an agility/games trial tomorrow but there are storms predicted! Waaahhhh! Hopefully they stay away long enough to keep it fun for us

My young, active dog is very destructive, she is finally settling down and she is about to turn 2. I put up with it because it serves me right if I'm going to leave a young working breed in the yard while I am at work!

How does everyone teach the broad jump? I'll probably end up doing COP but will need to teach a version of the broad jump for rally anyway so I'd like to teach the Open exercise. My main issue at the moment is that she wants to walk straight over the boards unless I am running beside her, so I am thinking of going back to what we did for agility and putting a jump above the boards. Even when she jumps it in agility she clips the last board quite regularly

So why aren't younger people getting involved?

Oh the pooooor other owners, setting our vicious dog on them so unsuspectingly... Sorry can't help myself. I'm wondering if you're referring to the original post instead of mine?? I'm glad you think it's funny because it's definitely not a laughing matter to me There have been lots of posts in the past about dog aggressive dogs so hopefully someone with experience will come here and post. Personally if I were the OP I would take Nekhbet's advice

Deejay, please remember that bad experiences can ruin a dog for life. If you think it's unfair that she doesn't get off leash time, how unfair do you think it is to the innocent dogs that get attacked/scared in the process????? It doesn't have to be an attack that results in injury, all it has to do is give the other dog a fright and their temperament can be changed forever. One of my dogs is a performance dog (obedience and agility) and after each bad experience I really have to work to keep her confidence up. Our years of training could be completely ruined by one dog "taking a dislike" to her. Not to mention it scares the absolute bajeezus out of me. I get very, very, very upset and angry when people let their aggressive dogs near her. It is simply not fair. My other dog is not 100% reliable off lead so he simply doesn't get walked off lead unless in a very safe or fenced area. That being said his off leash time is pretty much limited to fenced dog parks (generally when they are empty) or the grounds at dog club. He only gets to be off leash maybe once a week or fortnight. Sure it's annoying, but we deal with it because we try to be responsible owners.

Agree with this My dogs are always going out with me in public where they are likely to come across multiple other dogs, especially one of them who trials in obedience and agility. I want them to be able to deal confidently and appropriately with a range of other breeds and personalities so it is very important to me. Most of their socialisation is with known dogs in very controlled situations but they both regularly meet strangers. as well. If this kind of thing doesn't apply to you and you are happy with their current behaviour then it doesn't really matter!

This is so confusing for newbies, there needs to be instructions somewhere. I am in ACT, my dog came with NSW papers in the breeders' names but they had already signed the back for me to transfer. So I sent them back to DogsNSW (I just followed the instructions on the back of them and sent to that address). How was I to know they were meant to go to DogsACT? When I applied for our first title they were transferred to DogsACT papers.
