  1. I have a Rav 4, 96 model and carry 2 Bullmastiffs with the back seats folded up, but am in the process of updating to a newer model which the seats are removable in. I do like the idea of the back window opening on the Hyundai Santa Fe, however I'm a sucker for the Toyota and it's been working for us thus far. Nice and low for the dogs to climb in to without any jumping.
  2. This woman may have more wrong with her than just a fear of dogs.
  3. If a dog is declared dangerous it is to be kept in a run that is fully enclosed so that children may not poke fingers through. They are to be muzzled at all times, may not even run free in their own back yard with or without a muzzle. If outside their enclosure they must be on lead (even to toilet) with a muzzle on at all times. They may be kept inside as long as the house has no windows that the council consider breakable by the dog. Not much of a life especially if the dog is not genuinely dangerous.
  4. Why? A dog can be declared as a "Dangerous Dog" if it rushes someone or threatens them. It's too late for me to go looking up the wording of the law, but I recall the interpretation could be something along the lines of "the dog jumped up on a person; this frightened the person; the person ergo felt threatened". This is the problem with the law : it is too open to interpretation by each person who reads it - people ASSUME "Dangerous Dog" means the dog has shown real/genuine signs of being dangerous. That's not necessarily the case. Sorry, I admit I don't know what is required to declare a dog as dangerous, I assumed it would be relevant to the term. My reasoning is that I walk two Staffy's every night and coming across this type of dog could be detrimental to all of us. I also see kids out playing as well. I figure a classified dangerous dog should be well secured, if it is not it is a danger to kids and others, if the owners have let it escape once they may again. I'm afraid Erny is right on this one, a dog does not have to do very much at all to be declared dangerous, they do not have to be "aggressive", they do not have to be "dog agressive", the "rush" may be in excitement rather than agression and there is no distinction between the two and if the person or animal involved is frightened then its a "rush" and is enough to declare a dog dangerous. The "council" will declare the dog "dangerous" so that if something in the future was to happen their arse is covered.......the dog may not be genuinely aggressive or dangerous. Before a council declares a dog dangerous they should have to do a temperament test of the dog.....or at least meet the dog in question themselves!!
  5. Nothing to add to peoples comments about rough play, but just wanted to share pic's of large and small breed dogs playing . And sorry about the size of pic's......photobucket wouldn't let me copy them at a smaller size . Napping after a work out.

  9. QUOTE Should medical practitioners or hospitals be required to report any dog bites to the Government Chief Medical Officer or the Police or Councils? This one I haven't answered yet and wouldn't mind the input of thoughts of others. I don't like the idea of things such as this having to be reported and my inclination is to simply answer "NO". If I do, it will be the only one worded answer I've managed to give through the whole survey. LOL Erny - My now 21 yr old daughter was bitten by our friend and neighbors dog when she was 4. Nasty bite around her eye and his bottom teeth actually ended up inside her mouth cutting into her gum. The dog was not provoked, however did go into protective mode for one of his pack members thinking she was in danger while the kids played. I'm a dog lover, my children are dog lovers. We were asked by doctors etc to report the incident and we refused. I believe it is up to the individuals involved and council should only step in if requested. The dog was PTS by the owners without consulting us.
  10. Our vet has several cats and I don't mind at all, my dogs don't have a cat at home to socialise with so I like it so that they learn to understand that they aren't for chasing. It's just another training session really and they soon learn.
  11. Glad I came across this thread. Have completed the survey and hope it helps.

  16. All the chemicals in the world sprayed, poured on your animals are not that effective if you have an area which is flea infested. You must treat your garden/yard if you want anything to work effectively. I'm lucky....no fleas on my dogs as we obviously dont have any fleas in the ground. It's nice to be chemical free, but if you do have a problem, don't just douse your animal in chemicals...treat the real problem.....like someone already mentioned....they live in the dirt/sand....dogs are just a ride and a feed.
