Alright, so Jacques is now over a year old, yet I'm still having issues with him pooing inside the house. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Here is the setup. During the day when noone is home the dogs are outside, where they have access to the double garage via a doggy door. During the day when someone is home, the screen door is propped open so they have constant access outside. During the day when it is cold, the doors are closed but someone takes the dogs out every two hours. Now Remy, dog bless him, has learnt not to do anything inside, absolutely no problems with him whatsoever. Jacques, on the other hand, seems to think the lounge carpet is his personal pooing ground. Of course nothing happens when the doors are closed so no access is allowed, but this isn't feasible as it is our 'social' area. I can't seem to 'catch him in the act' because he is too damn sneaky. I suspect he's also secretly weeing everywhere (even after being desexed) except again it is hard to catch him/hard to find evidence. He is very stubborn and frustrates me, a perfect example is today is it raining - I took them both outside and asked them to do a wee. Remy, ever dutiful, did what he had to do and then waited patiently as I dried him with a towel. Jacques absolutely refused, and bolted inside the safety of the garage. What am I to do about this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please, please help me!

No no no no no no. I've said it before, I'll say it again - they do NOT know their stuff. I know its open later and all that, but it doesn't make up for expertise. wire, I live in Glenelg too. I've been vet hopping. I can not speak highly enough of Dr. Nick Male at Marion Small Animal Hospital, 827 Marion Rd, Mitchell Park.

Sue Hogben Obedience Seminar Adelaide

I am going to all four seminars. Thanks to ness who got me onto them -
An Amstaff is a pitty so if he has no papers its impossible to prove its not an APBT. What he needs to do is handle the dog responsibly, make sure it never escapes which ensures it cant harass anyone or attack anything, keep him on the leash, teach him to heal and other basic obedience. If his a good dog thats well looked you should be all but in the clear. Sorry, not adding anything of interest or help but Salisbury a good council? You've got to be joking Here's hoping no one will report him.

I did the course at Holdfast with Remy. I found it overpriced and boring (so did Remy). He never could settle on the mat either, he was in his 'teenage' stage and also we did it at night so it was cold for him (but he doesn't like wearing clothes either). So most of the time he would be shivering on my lap, I would be shivering on my plastic chair and we both would be bored, bored, bored. 80 bucks for 8 weeks as opposed to 50 bucks for a whole year at an agility club once a week...big difference isn't it? Ultimately with ness' help this is what I've decided to do - watch pro DVD's on basic obedience and foundation agility and then take dogs to random places for about 15 minutes per day for training. I think a lot of us believe we aren't capable of training our dogs ourselves, but I believe with a bit of guidance anything is possible.

Don't you mean pretty? ;) I love your dogs! Your hair is cool too Thanks :D I love your pups too! (Swap? Hehe only kidding!) Yeah, I miss that hairstyle. I was in Poland visiting family and I went to this funky hair salon, and since everything is so cheap there I was like, do WHATEVER you want. I ended up with red and blonde hair, a heaps jagged fringe and short, spiky hair at the back. Bloody wicked

Remy discovers being a big brother isn't as fun as first thought... Remy: Errr...getoff me? Remy: No, NOOOO, NO HUGS! Remy: Back it up, you! Remy: Yyaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrggg! Jacques: Chillax, bro Remy: Mum, get him off me! Jacques: It wasn't me, I swear it Remy: Oh, I give up! Sanity returns I am a handsome doggie, no?

Remy @ 6 weeks Remy @ 10 weeks (when I got him) They look so innocent when they sleep! Teenage Remy (note the rebellion) Kickin' Tyche's butt during the rebellion The Boy Turns Into A Man After the snip-snip Remy becomes a big brother

Bah...edit because I moved all my photos into folders on Photobucket *sigh*

Hi all, I would like to continue to teach both my pups obedience, but the obedience classes I had with Remy I felt were too expensive/went for too short amount of time, and I feel my current agility club doesn't really have the time/space for toy dogs Also, Remy was doing agility but we are on a hiatus. Judging by the dogs personalities; Tyche and Remy would be better suited to obedience/trick learning, Jacques and Jicin to agility (possibly flyball for Jicin). I want some foundation DVDs (definately for obedience and agility and perhaps for other things such as dog tricks and flyball etc.), I'm just not sure which are the best and where I can buy them from. I'd rather own my own than borrow from someone else. Thanks.

Great, so what is an ideal Koolie's weight I wonder... We weighed them at Vets n' Pets today Tyche is 22kgs Jicin 19kgs Methinks they need to be around 15 but I'm not entirely sure

Thanks for the replies. Mainly they get a raw diet, with the occasional bone (we have to get bigger bones for them, as they tend to swallow chicken necks and the like), sometimes good quality kibble. Its kinda funny, both Remy and Jacques are desexed, and ever since Remy has put on a bit of extra weight, but Jacques hasn't. Also, it doesn't seem to matter how much Jacques eats, he stays the same weight!

Can you guys point me in the right direction? Are there any threads I could read? For example: 1kg and under = ... grams 2ks = ... g 3ks = ... so on and so forth

R.I.P Lucy, run free, you were gone too soon. I hope the pain is easing and the memories are shining through.

Well I just rang her and needless to say I feel like screaming. She just doesn't understand. The dogs have completely manipulated her into doing everything they want her to and she doesn't even realise it! She feeds them at 6 in the morning, when ex-partner should be getting up at 8 to feed them (so she gets up early just to feed the dogs), and they have developed a taste for human food. At my house I wouldn't mind because we are generally healthy but there - nuh huh. The family is lucky enough to have good genes and they are all skinny but all the meals made there are full of fat. If meals aren't made there is takeaway. She told me she puts canned food in with the kibble because otherwise the girls wont eat it. I do not want them eating canned food. I tried to explain the NILIF mantra - that she should leave the food out until they eat it or take it away so they realise if they don't eat the food they get offered, they wont get any, but she is completely against the idea. No doubt she thinks its excessive dog cruelty. I can not believe these are the same girls I had a year ago. A year ago they would eat the food I gave them with no complaint. Now that they know that better is out there and they can manipulate her, I doubt they will be losing any weight soon. The Koolies are seriously developing attitudes and I need help ASAP. It just makes me so angry. ETA: Jigsaw we go on beach walks and they paddle in the water but I have yet to see them swimming.

Heya. Had a bit of a lapse over the holidays with the doggles, so am trying to remedy that. Remy and Jacques know some basic obedience but I would love to work with them further. I started doing agility with Remy last year but over the last few months I have observed both pups closely and methinks Remy would be suited better to obedience and Jacques to agility (Example: He loves leaping. Remy will jump off the bed carefully, whereas Jacques launches himself into the air with much glee). The Koolie girls need obedience training (they are quite stubborn). Preferably seperately because they seem obsessed with each other. Agility or Flyball could be fun too. Now, does anyone know any decent clubs near Glenelg? (I'm willing to travel a fair amount, but not excessively, say up to Gawler because I already have to waste 1 1/2 hours each day getting to and from the school I work at). I am a part of Agility SA down at West Beach but I feel they are good with medium to large sized breeds but don't have enough time for the toy breeds. So the Koolie girls could possibly work there on Thursdays. My only exceptions are that I have basketball on Monday nights and study Maths on Wednesday night. A weekend morning doing obedience would be nice. Any ideas, o DOLers of great doggy knowledge?

Ha! How I wish they weren't interested in food! Unfortunately that seems to be a side effect of desexing *mutters* God, 4 food motivated dogs. Why me, god, why? As for exercising more, I wouldn't mind doing some agility and obedience training with them. I would have to rotate the dogs or be able to go to a club which allows me to train with more than one dog a night. Ex-partner is useless I encouraged him to do agility with Tyche and she seemed to enjoy it but he got downhearted when she didn't get it right after a few goes. What a dumbass LOL - the ex-partner not the dog, obviously . I should probably start a thread in dog sports hey? Tips thus far: - Exercise more - Feed less - Get a non food motivated dog (only kidding)

Right, so as I've probably mentioned before I still live with my parents and my ex-partner still lives with his parents. The Min Pins stay at my place, the Koolies at his. Now, I'm tearing my hair out because ex-partner's mother feeds the Koolies and they have stacked on a bit of weight. It is really frustrating because obviously they aren't 'working' so the amount they eat does matter. They do get exercised every day and there is always an extended beach run on Friday. I HATE overweight dogs as I know it impacts their quality of life. Jicin came to us slighty underweight and would of been perfect for agility but now I wouldn't risk her and her joints. I think they are panting more frequently because of the weight. A week ago I got a whole stack of food, Bonnie weight loss control kibble, fresh meat and vegies, and some marrow bones. I left instructions that they are to be fed once a day in the morning and to alternate between fresh meat + vegies and kibble, and if they are to eat a whole marrow bone that is their feed for the day. Will definately have to watch said mother like a hawk. Oh how I wish I had my own house! Anyway, any working dog weight loss tips would be appreciated.

In Loving Memory Of "odin" - Alpinarc Fantom King
Fevah replied to EISHUND's topic in Rainbow Bridge
R.I.P Odin, I will always remember you playing with the silly young BC's at the Adelaide meets - and that one day you got a fright and ran yelping to mum for a cuddle. It was so adorable. Gone too soon... Prayers and love to Veanna, her family, LuvMyWhiteShep and all others who were touched by Odin throughout his short life.
