  1. Sending healing vibes to Rover. Hopefully he will be back to normal in no time.
  2. I just heard this on the news! So happy that Harry has been found It is great to know that if enough fuss is raised, things can get done! Welcome home Harry!!!
  3. Suffering from a severe case of cuteness overload over here
  4. In two minds about the Min Pin review although I do like this comment; "He is a lover of comfort -- usually that lump under the blanket is the resident Min Pin." None of the three Min Pins I've owned were destructive, except for Remy and that was because he suffered from seperation anxiety. I agree that they LOVE exercise, play, being trained (especially for treats) and 'adventures', but there have been times when I haven't been able to walk them (like when I was sick in bed for a week), and they didn't respond in a negative manner. I don't think so. Umm. Apart from Jacques, who is the naughtiest Min Pin I've had (because everyone else SPOILS him), I've had no escape artists (and he only did it once because the opportunity was there, and then he came back, and the only reason I found out about it was that the neighbour saw him!). They haven't wanted to escape. There hasn't been any evidence of attempted escape. I always read that Min Pins are not for first time dog owners and that they are hard to train. I wonder where this idea came from? All my dogs have wanted to please me and have done as I asked (albeit sometimes TOO enthusiastically!). I still consider myself a 'first time'/inexperienced dog owner and I have never had any issues. They are watch dogs, they are meant to bark if someone suspicious comes along! Mine bark when someone knocks on the door, or passes the back gate. I am perfectly happy to leave them alone outside when I am at work. I think barking is a problem for most small dog breeds, but it usually only becomes a problem because owners have not discouraged their dogs from barking! Training is the key here. I've successfully managed to train three Min Pins with reliable recall. If I can do it, then it definitely can be done!
  5. I voted this morning, I think it is a most AWESOME photo. Well done Ruth, hope you win!!!
  6. Remy and Jacques have finally passed out. They had a fantastic time (so did I). I think the dogs in the group were an excellent influence on them because I was impressed how calm and patient they were with all the young children who came up and petted them. The council were pretty unorganised! I expected there to be a set walk at a set time, but everyone pretty much did their own thing. It would of been good to have a few speakers there talking about various doggy topics and doggy related stalls. I can see this day working well with rescue groups also. What fantastic weather we had!
  7. I shall see you there and I will bring whatever I can think of at the time
  8. D'oh, very bad advertising here in Adelaide. They were making out like it was going to be on tonight, and then SURPRISE, actually it is TUESDAY night. Sorry for the confusion
  9. I'm impressed the rally got onto the news here, well done guys!!!
  10. Hey guys, Just wanted to remind you that Chris Brown will be doing a segment on puppy farms on the 7pm Project tomorrow night. Will be interesting to see why he's doing a complete 360 after all his recent slipups (promoting DD in articles, PP on The Circle, Pitbull bashing on Bondi Vet etc.). Wonder whether he's actually seen the light, given into peer pressure from all the wonderful dog lovers out there (including DOLers) or just wants greater popularity!
  11. Most likely they did. Mandatory Notification Training is drummed into us from the beginning of our careers. Unfortunately there aren't enough people doing Social Work to check out all the cases, and ultimately cases of physical/sexual abuse are going to be looked into first, over those cases of neglect.
  12. From what I understand you can't take your dogs to Buller and if you live there you have to get a permit for a dog and you have to have lived there for a number of years before even being allowed a permit.
  13. No. Completely disagree. As a first time dog owner I had a female Min Pin and she was an absolute angel. As are my two boys now. It's not that they need more exercise, it is that they have more stamina than the average SWF and can go for hours - IF given the opportunity. Otherwise they are happy to sit at home and be lapdogs. They aren't meant to be highly strung - just wary of strangers and good watchdogs. However, like everyone else has said it depends on the owner, and how much work they are prepared to put in to ensure they have a happy, obedient dog!
  14. In gave this a go and was trying to get small, athletic dogs as my top five, but it only gave me medium sized dogs, and none of which I would ever consider. I was also affronted that it included a lot of ''oodles" as breeds. When I asked it why Miniature Pinschers were not a good choice for me, apparently it was because I answered I wanted a jogging companion 'now and then'. Hmmmm. My dogs happily run for miles beside me when I am bike riding. I think they underestimate the stamina of an average dog.
  15. + 1 I'm never good with expressing myself but Fran has said exactly what I wanted to say. It was a shock to have a hiatus from DOL and then come back and hear about what you had been through, especially considering that no one (let alone my favourite DOLer!) should have to go through what you've been through. Sending more healing vibes and gentle Min Pin cuddles. You're are certainly a fighter and have humbled many of us (and rightly so).
  16. Agreed. I think those threads are a bit of a cop out. I mean, honestly, do your own research, THEN come on the forum and ask us which one out the the 5 or so you have narrowed it down to after you've explained your circumstances.
  17. My breed eh... Sorry Mon I often get told mine are Mini Dobermanns Or by the less observant, Chihuahua's... And also, people tell me I obviously don't feed them enough because apparently obesity in dogs is the way to go
  18. That is sad My blue boy doesn't really have the proper Min Pin hackney gait and I lovingly refer to him as 'MY reject'. I would hate to feel embarrassed by him because of this though!
  19. Hehe mine don't like the water at all so I don't have to worry about that! I prefer to go at a time when there are less beach goers. I think I'm quite lucky too, I live in Adelaide and I've yet to meet a bad doggy owner at the beach so the boys are both spoiled in regards to exercise and socialisation! I do the same as VJB - I make sure both boys know I've got some awesome snacks so they have something to come back for, but whether they get a treat or not is random so they come back just the same, just to check!
  20. Everyone is an expert hey ;) I actually at this because I have yet to meet a calm 'Oodle' of any kind!
  21. From the moderator on the thread: "This thread is now locked as it has nothing to do with the show Bondi Vet and can only degenerate into further issues as those outlined above. This was a segment on The Circle. I am sure there is a thread on this topic on their forums." Way to pass the buck guys :D
  22. *snorts* That is a bit extreme! Many, many people seem to think my Min Pins are Chihuahua's but I don't get into a huff over it. If they stop to have a conversation with me then I put them straight :D My friend thinks I should make a t-shirt and wear it when I go for walks with the following information: They are Miniature Pinschers NOT Chihuahua's... No they are not puppies... Yes they are fully grown... No they don't need much food... Yes they are easy to care for... etc. etc. :D
