  1. They were within their rights to use the park, at best, this was inconsiderate given that it was an off-leash area. In terms of dogs not being able to resist food, or approaching people, well, train your dogs properly. If my dog tried to approach a random without my consent he'd have hell to pay for it and he knows it.
  2. Well I don't see anything with (that part) of the legislation. If your dog kills someone, fair enough, you face criminal charges. HOWEVER, what I am really interested in, what the rules will be for dogs on their OWN property, where they cannot be easily accessed. What if someone jumps your fence and the dog attacks? Will they remain the same, or will they too change?
  3. Thanks for the update. So to clarify, were they stolen, or did they simply go missing and return?
  4. Ordinarily speaking, you would be right. However, a contract dictating the conidtions of sale of property, that meets all other legal requirements can hold true in the event that the person buying the property agreed to and signed it. In terms of duress, I'm assuming the OP is referring to economic duress. That wouldn't stand in the circumstances because economic duress is defined well in common law (I cant remember the exact cases), I do recall cases which expressly stipulated that holding a deposit does not amount to ecnomic duress, especially so if any potential cooling off period has expired (which I assume is the case). So good luck with that. Otherwise, you'd have cases of people putting down deposits and then changing their mind entering into contract only to claim 'duress'. Pretty stupid really. All that said, I don't think the situation is fair on the OP. As others have mentioned, the best thing to do would be to contact the breeder and discuss the matter. Failing that, I can see avenues for legal recourse when it comes to these type of contracts, but it is touch and go (and I won't go into it here).
  5. Thanks for all the input guys. There is actually a large variety available once you look around.
  6. They look really nice! Ah put together, I don't like the sound of that lol. er maybe not that big lol it fit a 30kg dog in it with room but might be a stretch at 50kg. I know a great place in northern melbourne that does cubbies and builds to your specifications my mum got one for her rabbits and it wasnt too badly priced either compared to what pet supply shops charge If you could get me some further info, that would be great?
  7. Yeah I was thinking that but I just don't have the time with working full time and managing a business.
  8. Hi All, I think it is time I replaced my dogs kennel. I want a big/nice kennel, not those ugly plastic ones or tiny wooden ones you see at petshops. Has anyone used a cubby house before? Thanks.
  9. You'd be surprised, but the overwhelming majority of them are like that. They absoultely love people. Granted, other dogs can be a problem, but people they adore.
  10. What's wrong with that in the right situation? Even if a dog knows how to bite (where legal), it shouldn't randomly attack people outside its property. There is a difference between a good 'guard' dog and a crazy/violent dog. A proper well trained Rottweiler is a good guardian and family dog at the same time.
  11. The rest of the states have hope. Lobby. And then Lobby some more. In Victoria, I can't see APBTs being banned/killed if not registered and Rottweilers being far behind. I'd suggest all Rottweiler owners register their dogs now too (if they haven't already) and make sure that any dogs are properly contained. Because we are next.
  12. Voted. What can you do I guess. Things are going from bad to worse in Victoria.
  13. Congrats on the puppy. But you can't say the breeder is homophobic, who knows why they aren't responding to your e-mails? Sure your homosexuality may be the reason, but you can't be certain. Good idea not to name and shame given the above.
  14. I think what you want is within your rights (the state of Victoria would disagree). However, a proper guard dog is cool, calm and collected. It knows exactly what it is doing and isn't what I call 'stupid' aggressive.
  15. I see heaps of fat labs, obviously not that fat, but most of them seem to be overweight. Is this a breed problem?
  16. Sounds pretty fake to me. All of this based on what a 'manager' said. Doesn't hurt to think a little people! Usually before you come out with judgements.
  17. Sorry for your loss. You obviously looked after her very well for her to live that long.
  18. Oh okay. It just seems you are keen to blame this one on the dog owner. I'm not.
  19. If you want to protect your dog from this kind of behaviour, then you don't let your dog run up to strangers. Lets face it, there's plenty of folk out there who are scared of dogs. Yes, knifing is overkill. So is kicking but who, other than the dog's owner IS responsible for keeping it safe? I guess I am looking at it from the legal viewpoint. Easy to pin this one on the guy who thought he'd stab a dog. An avoidable situation all in all.
  20. Still, you don't stab a random dog because it has come up to you. I'm not blaming the owner for this one at all.
  21. Thanks for all the input everyone I truly appreciate it. I am happy with the vet, as he didn't seem to be on a mission to make as much money as possible. The last time I went to the vet, they seemed keen on doing as much as possible in the shortest time possible (and it was obvious, financial gain was in mind, not the welfare of the dog). I am going to take the dog to a dog physio on the weekend and see how we go. The limp is slightly better, but still apparent. The problem with my dog is, he seems to 'forget' he is hurt and will run when excited. Failing any improvement soon, I'll definitely further investigate the matter, money is not a concern when it comes to the well-being of my dog. So if people suggest doing the tests ASAP, then I'll do them this week before the physio. Thanks again.
  22. Hi All, My Rottweiler is 4 years old, he is largely healthy, entire and weighs 51kgs (and isn't fat), pure with pedigree (i.e all health tests done). Over the past say 2-3 months, I've noticed that he is a bit stiff and limps when he gets up from resting, once he warms up however, he is fine. However, over the last few days, the limp has been terrible and he is avoiding that leg. Today it was a bit better though (having seen the vet yesterday). So I took him to the vet, who said it could be a number of things, but is most likely either a joint issue, or possibly muscle damage. Time will tell. He suggested i put him on Sashas Blend or similar and also said that my dog will need injections every week for the next month (the first injection being yesterday). I have come up with a plan of action: 1: See dog chiro....see results. 2: Pending no improvement after the series of injections with the vet, investigate the issue further with scans, tests etc. 3: Gradually reduce exercise levels and increase mental training (very high drive dog that I usually have to exercise a LOT, otherwise he becomes destructive). Does anyone have any ideas? Am I on the right track? I am assuming worst case scenario, he has arthritis (at a youngish age) and I will research on how to help a dog in such a situation. Any input from people who have been in such a situation would be much appreciated. Thanks all, DR.
