I am sorry I have to disgree with you here. (your comment in bold) I have seen and know of many "German" bred Rottweilers who are on the smaller slighter frame as well, it really has nothing to do with with the country the dog was bred / orginated from, it is all about his genetics as to what he finishs at. Edited to add; Some dogs take a lot longer to finish than others, again it is all about the genetics / lines of the dog. I have been told/read that generally speaking the Americans breed for a taller/skinnier dog. That said, you're the breeder so I'll have to agree with you. .
-
Most Rottweilers that are acquired from registered breeders in Aus will have that type of head, because it is essential in the show ring. So I'd say mainly German lines. I don't think I've seen many Rottweilers from the aforementioned breeders with narrow heads or bite issues. When it comes to headsize/bite, that's pretty much genetics.
-
I'd agree and say he is on the small side. But depending on his lines, he might fill up later on. The American dogs tend to weigh less, so it could be that influence there. I wouldn't worry too much for now and even if he ends up small, at least he'll be agile and quick. This is a case of time will tell, but as it stands, it does seem he'll be on the small side.
-
It depends on the lines in his breeding too. Some lines tend to really blow out at around 18 months-24 months. Others are almost done at 12 months.
-
When he's old enough, weight pull will do the trick.

Watched the video on YouTube for some of the stuff that happens in China. The dog had been skinned, but was still alive and moving after, as it looked into the camera. . Seriously depressing. Well said Erny. The only way we're going to win this is for everyone to stand together regardless of preferred breed or which state we live in. Agreed, well said. -

It is dog eat dog so to speak. APBTs are pretty much doomed, Staffy/AmStaff owners don't want their breed to go down that same route. I don't think it is fair to ban the APBT, but I can see the logic in protecting your own breed in the furtherance of self-interest. I agree vis-a-vis your second point, guardian breeds are def. next on the list. Especially in Victoria- The Kneejerk State. I dont think you would find ONE Amstaff owner who has an education above year 7 that will throw the APBT to the Sharks. As an Amstaff owner, and actively involved in BSL I can tell you that its a large proportion of Stafford people, and those with other breeds that are happy to do it. AST owners are fighting tooth and nail to have ALL BSL overturned, because right now in Vic we are exempt simply by ONE line of text, a line of text that the Government gave permission for ONE person to strike out whenever they want to, without it having to go through the normal channels. AST owners dont see it as 'lets martyr the APBT to save ourselves', we see it as "we have to fight, because we are next". On the contrary, I know many Amstaff owners who have left the APBTs for dead. I'm sure your anecdotal evidence has it's weight, but I've seen directly the opposite as well. I agree with your stance however, action should be taken against the concept of BSL and not just in the interests of self-service for a particular breed. That said, I don't blame those who have opted for the latter. -

Wary Of A Particular Breed... Anyone Else...?
DerRottweiler replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am scared of Rottweilers. They are dogs that were forged by the devil himself in the very depths of hell. They enjoy the taste of human flesh and have a keen sense of smell for our blood. Or so The Omen has led me to believe. -

I don't blame staffy owners (and Amstaff owners for that matter) for wanting to disassociate from the APBT name. -

If anyone needs a vet declaration in Melbourne, PM me. A genuine vet who cares about protecting dogs. A mate of mine got his Staffy registered on its basis. -

What an ethical dillema. I would have felt sorry for the puppy in question and probably would have wanted it to go to a good home. -

Crimes And Domestic Animals Acts Amendment (offences And Penalties) Bi
DerRottweiler replied to Sticky's topic in In The News
Pretty much. BUT the worrying part is when you read this (Domestic Animals ACt 1994): Domestic Animals Act 1994 - SECT 98A PART 7E IDENTIFICATION OF RESTRICTED BREED DOGS Power of authorised officers to make declarations as to breed of dogs 98A. Power of authorised officers to make declarations as to breed of dogs (1) If an authorised officer is of the opinion that a dog is a restricted breed dog, the authorised officer may make a declaration to the effect that the dog is a restricted breed dog. That's how they could get crosses....'looks like a pit to me'. -
Crimes And Domestic Animals Acts Amendment (offences And Penalties) Bi
DerRottweiler replied to Sticky's topic in In The News
It isn't as bad as I first thought it would be. Very limitied scope. Let's say it applied beyond that scope.....then what? Even if so, I can already see several ways to get out of charges, namely, reasonable person. Is it unreasonable to let a dog loose in an off leash area, where that dog has never in its life displayed aggressive behaviour before? Glad that the rules for dogs on their own property have not changed. (Of course 'dangerous' or 'restricited' breeds would have be properly confined). -
Attention Gsd, Rotties And Dobe Owners
DerRottweiler replied to german_shep_fan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Seems like the whole of Australia is starting to be depressing. What about a few yrs ago in QLD when quite a few pitbulls were taken from their families and destroyed through no fault of their own? Things have gone too far. Seems like this country is pandering to the every whim of asylum seekers yet ozzies themselves are being vilified. I cannot imagine not owning a german shepherd and the idea that my current GSD may be my last does not sit well with me. I get what you're saying about dog laws becoming very strict, but how on earth did you manage to associate that with aslyum seekers? -

DerRottweiler replied to german_shep_fan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Come on guys. I don't know about you lot, but with the breeds in questions in this thread, most people cross the road well in advance when they see us approach....... But whatever, let em list whatever breeds they want as dangerous. Victoria: The place to be VILIFIED AND DEPRESSED. -
Attention Gsd, Rotties And Dobe Owners
DerRottweiler replied to german_shep_fan's topic in General Dog Discussion
1: Probably. 2: Do you mean all dogs in general, or all GSDs/Rottweilers/Dobes etc? If it is the former, I highly doubt it, that is insane and I can't see legislation of that sort of magnitude being passed. If it is the latter, again, probably. -
