  1. Another dog is a good solution for dogs with separation anxiety. Although at 6 months, he may well grow out of it.
  2. LOL. So you are saying....that the WORKING GSD....shouldn't have some sort of aggression......now I've seen it all. "'Hey boy, go lick that criminal who is trying to run away!'' The word is used appropriately, nothing wrong with dogs doing what they are bred to do. Good on the breeder for being straight forward and more so, for producing working dogs of a shock, horror, working breed.
  3. what do you mean We were all dog n00bs at one stage cuz....you learn things with experience and when you are taught, read etc. When I joined, didn't know jack, got flamed BUT, got a few nice PMs that pointed me in the right direction, ended up getting a purebred Rottweiler from a reputable breeder, as opposed to a BYB job and for that I'm thankful. My friend who knew nothing, also got flamed. Again, a few nice PMs and he was on his was to a purebred AmStaff from a reputable breeder. I just feel, people here could be a lot nicer to newbies....
  4. I've said this before and will say it again. People here love to bitch. Too many bored mums maybe, i don't know. Not everyone is as clued in or educated as some of you are in terms of dogs, breeding etc. It is better to try and educate someone and help them...as opposed to whinge, complain. NB: Not everyone here of course, a few people are actually helpful.
  5. Sorry meat, chicken, fish, eggs etc. Vegetables can also contain protein, but is has a low biovalue (so can pretty much be useless)
  6. Dogs need protein. Meat= Protein. Open/shut case.
  7. I just clicked on the banner up the top for Pet Insurance, for my dog (3 y.o Rottweiler), it works out to be around $40 bucks a month full cover (accident + illness) with a $100 excess. That's pretty good given that it will give me piece of mind.
  8. How can you tell if your dog has a heart defect? What are the signs?
  9. I agree. But not in Australia. We might be a multi-cultural Country, but there are some cultures I'd like to cling to. And that's one of them. For sure. In Australia, we hold dogs in high regard. In India, cows are sacred. So it is all relative.
  10. A watch dog and a guard dog are not the same thing. Even many 'guard' dog breeds are simply watch dogs and would fail a proper temprament test unless from working lines (or show lines with some working history). Barking is one thing, acting on the warning is another. I have a friend who has a GSD bitch, she will bark like mad and growl, but one 'How are ya sweety? Aren't you beautiful?" and she will lick you to death! haha. Good to hear your dogs are okay. :p
  11. I eat meat, chicken, animal products etc. I have no issues with eating an animal so long as it is treated humanely and killed quickly without suffering. In China they kill dogs in front of other dogs and scare them etc. In Australia, we grind male chicks while alive. Both are wrong. That said, if someone were to eat dog (and treat it humanely, slaughter it in a humane manner etc), then I couldn't really say much, seeing as how I eat cow, sheep, fish etc. It is the food chain, like it or not. Cow, sheep, dog, cat, sloth, zebra.
  12. Yup - move to Melbourne and knock on our door, you might get a different response. We encourage our customers to bring their dogs in. We occasionally have a staff dog in, but they are always confined and would never be permitted to interfere with a client! Actually, we see the dogs as the customers moreso than the human, and have been known to have several Rotties wandering the store checking out the latest treat or toy. At the same time, all our staff keep a close eye on visitors to make sure there are no little disagreements - not everyone brings in a friendly dog or keeps control - so that is our job for the duration of the visit. To have a bitch in season in the store is simply wrong, for her mostly, but also for any poor male that comes in. Or, maybe that is the intention of the owner... some new designer brand? Phillipa 4 Paws & More Pet Supplies This is the pet store I was referring to in my earlier post. I go to the Keilor Park store. Could not be happier.
  13. I went into a pet store with my Rottweiler once and was asked if I had control over my dangerous dog because there were small dogs around. lol. The pet shop I go to now is excellent, I haven't even checked prices at other places because I'm so happy with the level of customer service.
  14. This. Unless one is a vegetarian, you don't really have a leg to stand upon.
  15. lol. Ummm does anyone else just wash their dog with cold water and a hose?
  16. True lol. A lot of people here love to bitch and moan. Please don't join them.
  17. Gross. I threw up a little reading this thread. lol.
  18. This. I love APBTs too and I do not see them as a lost cause....however, Amstaffs are a different breed. All dogs share the same DNA, you just breed for different characteristics and traits. Amstaffs and ABPTs have different characteristics and traits. Both are great dogs however. Oh, I voted no.
  19. Thanks for the nice comments again guys. His elbows are looking good again, I got him new kennel bedding for winter and a new dog-bed for when he is out the front, so by and large he spends less time on the concrete now and more time on soft stuff.
  20. Rottweiler (already have) GSD Malinois Dobe APBT Amstaff Argentinian Dogo That is all i can think of for now.
  21. I can see why you were guarded in disclosing the breed. Good for you for disclosing it ! Not surprised at the outcome. Poor Cavalier! I would have loved to have had a stick in tow and hit that mongrel between the eyes! How many more dogs have to be victimised at the jaws of these animals? are you really trying to say what your words are saying, or am I interpreting that you have it in for Staffords? Don't take the bait.....
  22. I agree - but reporting the incident to the rangers is the most emphatic way of pursuing that. I think tianakaesha acted very responsibly. The sad fact that the dog may be PST shouldn't disuade people from calling the rangers for such a serious incident, anymore than the fact that a dog may end up in the pound stops me calling the local guys about the wandering dogs in my suburb. I used to just try and talk to the owners, but not anymore. Agreed. The ranger should have been called in any case, even if the owner could be contacted.
