  1. Hi everyone, This is a bit of a rant, but of a different kind. How many threads do you find in this section, ranting and whinging about: - People wanted to buy DD dogs or dogs from petshops. - People wanting to breed their own dogs, because they want a similar pup, or because their friends and family want a a dog just like that. - People having poor control over their dogs. - People having poor control over their children when approaching dogs. I'd just like to say, you all live in a 'dog bubble'. You know all the above is wrong, but other people genuinely have no idea. They honestly do not know better. It isn't a case of them being evil, or thinking they are professionals of some sort, rather, a case of lacking knowledge. Rather than having a sook and complaining every 5 seconds, perhaps spend 5 mins educating someone who isn't that dog savvy, it would go a long way. I know my opinion is never popular, but I am just making an observation. Thanks, DR.
  2. Wow. You leave your dog outside cause you're too lazy to vacuum? Lol. Nice... Mmmm no actually, the opposite. I'm a bit OCD and a clean freak, the thought of dog hair being everywhere until i get the chance to vaccum would drive me insane. Wow. You leave your dog outside cause you're too lazy to vacuum? Lol. Nice... That's not nice nor necessarily fair, LMS. Person's choice. Some dogs who are kept outside receive more attention; training; mental and physical exercise with their owners than some others I have met over the years who have their dogs inside. If the dog is well looked after; receives the care and attention it requires - there is nothing wrong with a dog being kept outside. It is not my choice - but my choice doesn't have to be someone else's. lol thanks! My comment wasn't meant to spark a inside vs outside dog debate, I was just stating that the video reinforced my decision to keep my dog outdoors. No kids! I'll worry about that hurdle when I get there....
  3. Maybe they are going for a different 'look'. Not saying it is the right thing to do, but, free country.
  4. It's not a question of whether it can be "stomached", it's whether it's necessary. It is reality. I can't blame someone who posts up dog related cruelty, this being a dog forum. If I find it too depressing, I won't click on it.
  5. Sad stories depress me too, but not to the point where I can't read them/view pictures. If you can't stomach it, don't click on it. Really simple solution.
  6. That video was pretty cute but only shows one side to the story. Victoria has the worst dog laws. Banning protection work has resulted in too many backyard operations and most people don't have any idea what they are doing. It should be legal and regulated.
  7. Not all dogs will respond nicely to being grabbed by the collar either. Yep mine would not like that either.
  8. Also, don't forget that not all dogs will respond to being told off. My dog doesn't listen/respect anyone besides myself or family members.
  9. Off-leash parks- Your dog runs the risk of being attacked. If you don't like the idea of that, do not take your dog to off-leash parks. Every few days there is an off-leash park whinge thread. Are the owners of aggressive dogs stupid for taking their dogs there, or are the owners of friendly dogs stupid for taking an unecessary risk?
  10. That's cool I guess, but will the same people see the two films? I just think it would be nice of him to end the film with a statement like "Cujo the Hell Hound was played by the canine actor Rover" or whatever, and a couple of seconds worth of clip of Rover looking all friendly & cute & harmless. So that the last image people carry away is of Rover acting friendly not vicious. That would be great! Just to show that the dog always has two sides to it.
  11. Because in some breeds, the 'working' element is now a bonus in showlines, where it should be a key factor in that dogs makeup. (Show GSDs for example...I've seen so many fail working temperament tests its not funny).
  12. Only fools believe the modern media in its entirety. The media always has an agenda, make no mistake about it.
  13. I am afraid, your dog will slowly morph into a cat now. Prepare yourself for ultimate snobbery (damn cats).
  14. Excellent! Very well written with all arguments conveyed in a clear, logical manner.
  15. Having read the legislation, while it is harsh and vests too much power in the local councils, the rules only really apply to dogs found at large, especially if they are subjectively deemed dangerous (very very dubious power there). The dangerous dog provisions (i.e no bite work, attack training etc.) are pretty much the same (with harsher penalities I think). I padlock my dog when he is at home, I have high fences which he cannot jump, or dig under. I would suggest all Victorians who have a dog that has escaped previously or can easily escape, to properly secure the dog, it isn't worth the risk as some psycho ranger who may have a grudge against a particular breed, now has the power to put down any dog, at will, based on his/her subjective opinion.
  16. Yep. A proper ABPT loves people, dogs can be an issue, but not always. Most dogs that the media portray as APBTs are just mutts with a poor upbringing. The sweetest dog that I know is an APBT bitch.
  17. Thanks. I will read them both and post findings here.
  18. For those in the CBD/West, there is a nice fenced off-leash park in North Melbourne/Flemington (near the Lost dogs Home). I go there often, all the dogs are pretty good and so are the people.
  19. It was my previous understanding that a dog that attacks a person on its own property (provided that a warning exists so as to revoke implied lisence to entry) is not subject to any ill treatment. Is this still the case? Or have the new laws changed this?
  20. Hi Hedii, What is the approximate costing? Thanks.
  21. Pretty stupid. Was probably a lucky punch. Or the dog being an APBT, wasn't a guard dog at all, they LOVE people.....and he punched it.
  22. I think that's a rude and insulting post derRottweiler - not to mention completely without basis. I used to run a house cleaning business and some of the cleanest homes I worked in had dogs inside. On the other hand I have experienced many a slovenly unhygienic home where the unfortunate family dog is tied up outside in a mud pit looking filthy. But those are both generalisations, just like your comment - and ultimately mean nothing because how people are about cleanliness has little to do with owning pets. Fact is, people will be unhygienic and untidy in their homes whether or not there's a dog inside. And many people who do have dogs inside, myself included, are actually even more vigilant about cleanliness and hygeine because the dogs are there. What else do you mean by "not big on hygiene"???? Dog owners don't wash themselves? Have bad teeth???? Wear the same clothes for weeks on end? Seriously - what sort of comment is that to make? I wouldn't leave my dogs outside. They are sociable animals and want to protect me. They can't do that if they're stuck outside (especialy if they're tied up or in a dog run) As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be here today ranting on this forum if I had kept my previous dalmatian outside. I'm sorry, you think MY anecdotal evidence is completely without basis? So you've been there when I've seen people share food with their dogs (one bite for me, one bit for Rover)? I'm not sure if you understand, but I said 'I've noticed'. Quite frankly, only I know what I have noted....if that makes sense. Then I come on here and see a thread about dogs licking wounds.....pretty hygenic ey? ;) Sharing food with dogs, sleeping with dogs, etc. It is pretty common and I've observe this. Whether you have observed different is truly irrelevant and has little to do with what I've witnessed first hand. All things equal (i.e likeminded clean home owners), a house without pets is always cleaner. That isn't my opinion, that is common sense and some basic science too. Well, at least you admit you were ranting, hope you enjoyed it!
