just updating: Tonight and tomorrow we're heightening the fencing and creating the wire top part too. I'll let you all know how i go. thankyou all once again. Bonnie
-
just out of curiousity, pure curiousity... if millie was to jump a hot wire fence, she wouldn't want to go back over to get back in the yard, would she? because as our fence is now she cn jump it without coming into contact with the fence
-
It's not allowed here, according to whomever i was speaking to at the council front desk. I think the heightening and the bracket wire will help.. we'll have to see.

I've made some calls today to our hardware stores and I'm going to get our fence heightened and have the design that Nekhbet showed in pictures installed also. I'll be working out my financial position at the moment to get this sorted out as soon as possible. In the mean time, as in probaly a week.. I think Millie will have to go to our local boarding kennels... ugh. thanks guys.

I'm going to go to Mitre 10 today and see what they can sell me to help me make the fence in your photos. I've printed them out. I'll let you all know how i go.. and hopefully as goes well.

Hi Midol, My fence is corrigated iron. She jumps it - doesn't even touch the fence and it's 6feet tall. Nekhbet - Thanks for helping me out here. That looks really good, is it effective? I've seen this sort of thing done with cat enclosures. Blue Fox - damn you I was hoping it was the magic answer to it all. I'm thinking I'm going to have to build a dog enclosure for Millie and have her happy in it and everything in time for her seasons. For now though, Cooper will be fine in their too (as I don't want them seperated too long during the day) and in time I'll get him his own next to hers. Did anyone get their dog enclosures made specifically for them, or did you have to make/design/build your own?

OMG. I am shock. That's so sad. How unbeleivable.. You'd be devistated. I have no words to offer on this freak accident, but I hope you are okay.
-
Aussie, i'd contact your breeder and ask how old lilli's mother and aunts etc all were when they first when into heat. off the top of my head.. Millie's lady relatives were all like 18months before their first heat.

get a fresh strip of bandage tape and place it over the stick spot. pull up gently. as you would with say.. blu tack.

Has Anyone's Dog Choked On Chicken Necks?
Bonnie N Her Aussie replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Aimee. I have two Australian Shepherds aged almost 8 months, and almost 4 months. I gave Miss 8 Months raw dog bones unattended after feeling confident she was fine with them but I've realised now how dangerous they can be, although it took me a day at the vet to understand just how. Millie stood on a 1 day old bone and split the skin between her pads on her back right leg. Mr 4Months LOVES chiken necks and savours them every so much, he's one of those dogs who will pick at it as gently as possible and take as LONG as possible to eat them. Miss 8 Months is a scoffer of a dog and will suck them don (being near on the perfect size). I find with Miss 8 Months; that she will bulk eat them and swallows them whole which about 5 minutes later; she has to throw up because she's overindulged. I watch her alot with all raw chicken bones, - wings, necks, anything. I would say that wings are just as bad because they have points and can probably risk peircing the osoephagous (sp), but I've only eer heard of that with dried out wings. PM me if you want a more detailed opinion, but I'm sure you'll get plenty on DOL as is. =] -
I would have just thought it was a skin tag, but if in doubt - see a vet.

Approximate Weight Question....
Bonnie N Her Aussie replied to Snoozie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD puppy weighs in at 12kg. but he is a boy... and it depends too on if she's a bulky bc or a petite one? -
Aussie3, I know of a few Aussies who are sensitive to Ivermectin; but I'd seriously suggest calling your vet so he or she can explain to you everything about it and how much of it needs to be in your dog before your dog can take a serious effect. The way my doctor explained it was as if your dog would need to "drink it" before she'd have any effect. I'm really not in the know with this subject; but I'd cuggest calling your vet.

Hi Deb. Congratulations on the new puppy. What kind of dog did you get? We're all pondering away trying to guess in our minds. =] You'll have to post some photos of him when you work out how to do it. (photobucket.com) In regards to the toys; I'd be buying him a few new one and introducing him slowly to your other dogs, but keeping him seperated for a little while when you're not able to keep an eye on him. best of luck =D
