  1. Reunion Day 2010 Hawkesbury's first reunion day which was a huge success, just a few pic's added as there are so many: Lilly, Rescued 4 years ago by Amanda from Lab Rescue & now is a cherished member of their family. Lilly was found in a drain in the most hideous condition & had been badly abused. The staff thought Lilly would die as she was being brought in. Amanda took Lilly immediately & just look at her now! Hannah Montana! also known as Aunty Hannah, Adopted in Sept 2010 by the Gorgeous Mighty Mic & Rach. Run free sweet soul

  3. Page 308 item N1 re Red Collar council meeting notes pdf Rescue decisions aside: the option to rehome their own pound dogs via their own facility as an alternative is "not considered a viable option". Details in the linked paper. af
  4. Sorry, I'm in the wrong login but just quickly.. Firstly I'm so sorry T&S, it's hard when they age. Your vet will want to know and may choose to do a blood panel to rule out kidney or liver issues, kidney failure dogs can have an odd smell but I can't describe it. It's not good. Seniors can also have reflux or a problem digesting due to age and poor circulation to the digestive system. Trial a batch of home made 'baby food' (broth, chicken&veg, farex, quinoa etc) and try some natural yoghurt or protexin. xxanna/SSR
  5. Does anyone know of any Keeshond Rescues / person rescuing this breed?
  6. omg ignore that, wrong login. I was going to comment on spellcheck of rescue spam being 'sponsible but if I can't even get my login right then forget it. xxanna-powerlegs
  7. Things are looking up. Check the PoundCC on Facebook. They have been quietly working with the council. I think a new 16d application to release from them has been tabled. To answer why they aren't on the urgent lists right now: we can't list out of the blue without a pound in agreement but would be happy to when they are ready. :) Guess it will be a matter of time and trust building by the PoundCC group. anna pl
  8. Please PM us, and do not let one bad apple spoil things. You can always put a disclaimer in your signature / on your pledge like others do. Along the lines of "only ethical rescue" etc.
  9. Kendra, that is just not on. I know you've made some very generous pledges and they can still be found in the archives. Please PM Pound List with the dog in question and we will also look into this for you.
  10. Thanks Anna, good point! Sorted now, hopefully I remember next week if not then you know where to find me lol. anna
  11. Noted and thank you although a PM reaches the actual listers faster. I can't see one from AWDRI. anna
  12. Hi H. :) Boy or girl, fluffy or smooth? What area is she in? x anna
  13. I'd happily list just mugshots if a list was emailed by HP ;) af
  14. I have a far-out suggestion. Bare with me. How about instead of bleating and bashing away on keyboards with 'how very dare they', some of the loudest complainers or some of the 5000+ supporters step aaawwwwwaaayyy from the computer, go in every week, take notes and photos, then put them on facebook or wherever they want. I find it impossible to believe that couldn't be organised, instead a deliberate and heavy handed attempt at getting PL to toe the line is in fact the cause of dogs missing out. Can I make it clearer on what the issue is here? Pound Rounds have the people and the resources to go in EVERY SINGLE DAY if they wish. But will not, instead energy and time is being spent belittling and blaming a small group of women who work quietly for no other reason than to help. I've had enough of the bullying, lies and abuse, the name calling and foul foul language (yes you too Opal, your wall is wide open and not pretty) and not once have I stooped to the kind of abuse and accusations levelled at me personally (as the unfortunate spokesperson) and the fellow volunteers, some of whom have thankfully managed to stay anon. Why would anyone feel compelled to associate with those kinds of activities. Sending a sockpuppet on to defend the indefensible isn't helping either. PL has reasons for not wanting their notes and images widely distributed as gospel rehoming advice and I would think this latest incident could spell it out clearer than I can. Our simple request is to be left alone and out of the PoundRounds juggernaut. Anna - Powerlegs

  17. This thread is to celebrate the life of one of the most wonderful dogs I have had the pleasure to meet & foster. Old Ray a beautiful Shepherd who has touched every part of our hearts, home & our lives in the most intimate of ways. Ray was surrendered to the pound at 12 years of age as his owners had three new puppies & they decided Ray was getting to old. When the Staff spoke with the owner they suggested there was a good chance he would go to a rescue group, also that he may be pts. Rays owner was angry that he would go to rescue & wanted him pts. The Staff suggested that she should take him to her vet, though she refused to do this. When I met Ray I thought he was one of the most dignified dogs I had ever met. My best friend as a child was my Shepherd Smokey Joe & I adored him. We worked franticly on the thread for Ray, though the oldies often do it tough. Save a Shepherd outstandingly decided to take him on if someone could foster Ray, so I put my hand up. The first step was to take him straight to the vet to assess his quality of life. While he had some arthritis his quality of life was good. When I asked how long we would have with him it was anything from a month, a few months & he was put on medication for his arthritis. Everyone loved him at the vet & the Dermacare rep gave him a gift of Aloveen products. I think Ray has been here close to 12 months. I will never forget the beautiful soft gallop he did on the lawn when we got home, all of our bunch loved him instantly. Old Ray Loved it here and we all adored Ray. Anyone who has met Old Ray will never forget him. Unbelievably the owner rang to check he was pts & then demanded the vet assessment I paid for…I refused other than to say he had good quality of life for now. It took me weeks to remove the mass of undercoat & god knows how many bags filled the bin. Ray was nearly half the size when we finished & he developed a beautiful glossy coat after a few weeks. Ray loved his tucker, soft toys & loved being inside with us on his bed. He was quite intrigued with the cat….I don’t think he would have been great with cats as a youngster, though Peppa is far too clever & quick for Old Ray. Probably the most touching part of this story is that my youngest Hannah who is now 4 & Ray became inseparable. Hannah is selectively mute & will only talk with people she knows intimately. Mind you she never stops talking at home…. Ray followed Hannah everywhere, she sang him songs, read him books, had tea parties & carried his toys around in the basket on her bike. He listened to her every word & showered her with affection. I would often see Ray following Hannah a few steps behind on her bike, occasionally she would throw his toys for him & he would bring them back to her & put them in her bike basket. Within two weeks of Ray arriving Hannah’s speech therapist was astounded with her speech development & it just got better & better. Hannah no longer needs speech therapy. Ray loved waiting for me at the gate while I ducked up to the local shop. When I got home & opened the gate he would escort me into the car port ever so carefully & stop where I needed to stop the car. This was done at a painfully slow pace, often Billy our Foxy would join in on the act so I would see big Old Ray and this tiny tubby Foxies backsides as I slowly followed them in. About a month ago Ray began becoming incontinent while asleep. I didn’t mind this at all, it was easy to clean up, though I became worried. During the past few weeks Ray found it very hard to get up off his bed near the fire, I would have to lift him up…wait for him to get his creaky bones together, make sure we had a clear runway to the door & support his mobility to go to the toilet. During the past week, although still very happy within himself & loving his tucker, company & toys I had to carry him inside & out. We both knew it was time & I called our vet to asses him again & discuss pts. It was very clear Ray was ready to go. I selfishly wanted to hold onto him for another few days though knew with all I am that I needed to offer him dignity. Ray was pts in my arms at home on his bed in front of the fire, I spent 30 mins with Ray after he went & before he was buried in his favorite place in the garden. Poor Ray was soaking wet with my tears. I have a beautiful Crepe Myrtle planted above him & he is wrapped in his favorite blankets. I am sorry for the emotional post, though I wanted to share how special our Darling Ray has been. I also hope that people will consider older dogs just like Ray in the future. Run Free Darling Ray, you have taken a part of my heart with you. I am so blessed to have known & loved you, and miss you so very much. Nic xxxxxx
