Grain Free Dog Food In Australia
Shmurps replied to viddles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Each to their own. So to those who don't feed their dogs processed food, do you and your dogs only eat organic, free range foods? No tinned food, take away, treats, alcohol or anything that has ever been sprayed or gm? -
I'm the same Cosmolo. I groom quite a few dogs from the same place. They were all raised indoors, owners were given detailed information about ongoing grooming commitments and costs, dogs are all delightful. The 'breeder' is still always on hand to these clients for questions. It starts to get tricky once the DD breeders lift their game. Are we saying this place isn't so bad Can someone pm me the place please.

Thanks PSA. Always interested in new foods. I use EP and Nutro and I find my dogs do really well on it. -

Does anyone know what other dog food companies P&g own other than Euk and Iams? -

Apart from the above mentioned, who I believe to be the worst, I have only seen a video of another company where the dogs live at homes. They lead a normal life except the are fed the food and it's documented. I cannot remember which one it was as it was a while ago, it was a prem brand. I will be interested also -
True, but I think we're overestimating the general dog owners ability. The majority of the DOL community are quite dog savvy, in all aspects of ownership, but I have to say a large amount of the dog owners we see really have no idea. Take the phone call I had the other day - An owner called up asking if they can start feeding their 3month old small breed puppy adult food now, because it won't stop mouthing. They genuinly believed that a) the biting/mouthing would cease once the dog becomes and adult, and b) feeding it adult food would turn the dog into an adult. We deal with people like this all the time... I agree and I hear you.

My boy had 2 x C5's as a pup and got it bad under 5 months of age, the old renbury KC the people that have rescued dogs and pups will know what I am talking about. I visited a breeder 2 weeks ago and haven't been around any other dogs, now he has green snot and a hack... I must have bought it home on clothes. This is the 3rd time he has had it, and he is 3 years old. Has also had C5's yearly. So no vac this year, because he is going to get it regardless of vaccination. The C5 doesn't work and is a total waste of money. Can you bring it home on your clothes? I was under the impression you couldn't. I also volunteer at a shelter, however I always spray down with F10, take my clothes off at the frond door then straight into the wash with domestos.

Although not a fan of Euk , Iams and P&G. It will be interesting if available to other outlets. mmm PP rely on it as it's the only range of food they sell -
I thought that it was the testosterone that maybe the cause of such cancers prostate, perianal and testicular. As far as age goes it would depend on the breed. Anyway, each to their own.

Damn. I was hoping they were being shut down.

Coming up on Today Tonight something about PP and leaving pets in store.

An Idea To Help Deter People From Buying A Dd
Shmurps replied to Shmurps's topic in General Dog Discussion
Had to laugh at this. I know someone who breeds top notch IWS. We tease her about her "discount" doodles. Call them the "poor man's alternative" to DD's. Considering that most (non dog savvy) people buy a dog for the way it looks rather than for what it does, then spend months/years dealing with its perceived problem behaviours (that are often simply breed behaviours), maybe notable breed characteristics like behaviour should also be included in some way. After all, most (non dog savvy) people are blissfully unaware that different breeds were bred to behave in different ways, and they spend so much time trying to understand why their sight breeds chase, their earth dogs dig, gun dogs hunt, herding dogs nip etc.... Just a thought. Definitely. Would include profile. -

An Idea To Help Deter People From Buying A Dd

I'm thinking too that a lot of people wouldn't have heard of a lot of breeds, including myself, that may resemble DD in a petshop. -
An Idea from "quick help thread" dog geek you have made a light bulb go off in my head. Let see if we can put a list together of dogs that may resemble a cross breed. This way we may be able to deter people away from poorly bred cross breeds. dog geek suggested a Griffon Bruxellois- the smooth coat which looks similar to a cav/pug crossbred. I'm thinking if we can get a good list together , I may be able to but together a small brochure that I could hand out to our customers.

I have just been doing some reading and was wondering if anyone does any breeding back or preservation breeding? From what I gather it is a way of preserving bloodlines, and creating a better gene pool. I believe it can take some time and effort but from my understanding could be of value in the future? My OH asked me about it, said I didn't know if it was practiced. We are not breeders just curious. Posted in general as well, sorry. I don't fully understand it but look forward to any opinions?
-
OK thanks. Wasn't sure if I could post there. My OH commented the other day, wondering if breeders practiced breeding back. Said I didn't know, so now curious.
-
Not sure what's involved, so I guess it's not practiced much?

Im sure the pounds and rescue would see the point in knocking them off, or reducing them at least. What breeds need more breeders? take a few under your wing and educate them in breeding? I would be gobsmacked if all registered breeders had this attitude. My rescue group, for one, would love to see the BYB, PF, pet shops and unethical breeders knocked off. Basically you are saying that it's not up to you to try and knock these people off. Who is it up to then? Should it be left to rescue groups to fight this battle? Well if ethical registered breeders are not going to stick up for themselves and promote pedigree dogs and educate the public on why they should buy a pedigree dog and not a BYB, PF or pet shop dog then why should rescue groups continuously try to educate the public about ethical registered breeders? Next time someone rings up and asks me about puppies, we recieve at least 4 calls a week and the same amount of emails, I wont bother telling them about the differences between an ethical registered breeder and a PF/BYB/Pet Shop or who to contact about sourcing a puppy that comes from an ethical registered breeder. Well Said.

I fully understand that breeders what the"bestest "home for their pups. I believe not to judge but to educate. Everyone has to learn somewhere .I think you would be surprised how many people would appreciate the advice from a good breeder. Ignoring them isn't the answer. We all have to play apart in educating people that pet shops are not the only place to buy a pup from.
-
Not from us either. And another reason why people turn to petshops. If we want to stop PF and petshops there needs to be some understanding that not everyone is educated on how to approach a breeder. Everything you purchase has a price and it just comes naturally to ask how much. Doesn't mean they are not worthy on that question alone.

Our dog just completely shuts down. I have also tried everything. Ignoring, which we still do, rescue remedy, calm, distraction and wrapping her in a tight towel(which works sometimes. Like comolo says when it's extreme you have to manage it. The DVD can work in reverse if not done properly and some drugs can also work in reverse. Drugs that calm the body but not the mind can make the dog more stressed. So if she wants to be close to us we just let her and go on as normal. If she jumps into bed with us and hides under the pillow during the night, shakes and pant we let her. We don't pat her just let her be.
