  1. A good read. I really do feel sorry for dogs that have allergies and owners that have to manage the problem. I have owned 6 dogs 3 where from someones friend or family who had a litter back in the '70's and 3 rescues. All our dogs have been vac, wormed and heartwormed (as heartworm was rife in our area in the 80's) and we have never had an allergy problem and hope we never do. One thing I have noticed is that there seems to be a trend with certain purebreeds as well, such as SBT. Curser probs again
  2. We met a Dob breeder at a pet expo who made bowl stands. He was telling us that a dog would normally eat lying down, like if the dog bought down a prey or eating a bone. We have a large breed dog and we feed with the bowls raised. Mainly for compfort rather than bloat.
  3. Had a conversation with a lady and we got onto dogs. She has cavaliers and shows them. Anyway she told me she was buying a harness and had to get a bigger size for her dog to grow into it. I said do you have a puppy and she says no he is 18 months old. So I say I thought they were adults around 12 months. She says he is at show weight and can put weight on when he becomes a pet. Then I ask, well wouldn't he be ideal weight now? because you see lots of over weight cavaliers that snort and puff from being over weight? She then told me what would I know because she has been breeding for over 30 years So my question is, is there a show weight and pet weight? Sorry it's not punctuated properly, curser not working.
  4. Thinking of you.Have been there. Run free Halle.
  5. We use it around the house. Never used it in that way before. Interested in what others have to say.
  6. Sorry, poorly written. Pollywaffle has got it. My curser isn't working properly and I posted a little early for brain function.
  7. Does anyone have the power to do something about puppy farms? The only thing I can think of is that if some of the news laws were bought in then RSPCA for example would be able to act upon them. For example, when they wanted to bring in the law that every dog should be walked. Surely they weren't aiming at the average dog owner, but to have grounds to fine or close down PF. I cannot believe that people, whether it be councils or RSPCA inspector don't have any compasion for these animals. If you didn't, why bother?

    Peta

They are more nuttier and more cruel than I thought How do they get away with the things that they do? I must admit though a few years ago when thet exposed a certain food company, I thought they were alright
  9. Last week I bought "Dogtown" series by National Geographic. Just watched the episode where Dogtown took 2 dogs to an adoption day at PetsMart
  10. How come you see a lot of allergies in certain breeds? SBT for example.
  11. I looked into all this a while ago. I found 2 brands that the dogs do well on and I swap them over every 6 months. They also get chicken carcas, necks, wings, lamb brisket and fish. Did anyone see onToday Tonight about the old dog? We didn't see all of the sho but there was one mix breed dog and has lived on what the family ate with the odd dog food meal . The dog turns 21 next year and looked great. We met a Matese x the other day and we thought it was under 12 months, he was 18. Great teeth, coat and body condition. So go figure..
  12. And if it's done properly, why not. The stores that are affiliated with RSPCA or Lort Smith would have to follow their guide lines. I know with the one mentioned before all money goes back to the rescue group, which covers the desexing and micro chipping.
  13. I was interested in this a while ago. I have 2 rego's due in March. Do you have workshops often?
  14. Our 5 year old kelpie had lymphoma. We chose not to go with chemo as we were not guaranteed much time. We were told he had 4-5 weeks max. With management treatment we had him an extra 3 months. It was only the last week he went down pretty quick. But we all had the best 3 months. Good luck and thinking of you.
  15. Have you seen the documentary on The Secret Life of the Dog, if so what did you think? (sorry if it's already been done)
  16. Where did you get your info? I have been looking cannot find anything. Want to pass it on to friends because I have been telling them for a couple of years not to buy from China.
  17. I don't know much about about breeding. Can anyone tell me what are the benefits for a dual sired litter? Never heard of it before. oops, posted in the wrong spot.

    Puppy Milk

Gee it's been many many years since I had a pup. I thought the milk and weetbix thing was a thing of the past. Quite often hear of people picking up pups that are fed on weetbix and milk I thought that once they were weaned that it wasn't necessary to give milk. Also thought that puppy food for mum was for the extra calories Oh well learn something new. I don't get why greyhounds are fed weetbix and milk either
  19. Well I hope the money raised does go to the pup. Apparently one of the pp stores didn't pass on the donations collected for LDH. Last year the stores had a xmas tree for donations. From what this person said, at the end of the day, all items which where purchased as a donation and hung on the tree, the manager would put them back on the shelf.
  20. Is greyhound racing closing down in all of Queensland?
