  3. Gday 'Iggy mum' Yes he can make dividers for the back where the seats can either be up or down, but I know the quality would be alot better than the ebay one, plus it would be custom made to your car for a snug fit! What kind of car is it? and I can get you a price
  4. Hi Everyone! I know someone who is an expert in working with steel and I'm getting him to put dog barriers in my car with 2 lockable doors and a divider. Just wondering if there are other people out there needing barriers done? He can make them to suit your car, whatever you need he can do! He is located in Taylors Lakes VIC
  5. WHY do you always have to bring this crap up? Yes, in fact you are in the minority so it aint going to change AND we dont care about your uneducated views on the GSD! Whoever this lady is who 'showed dogs extensively a number of years ago'....needs to get her eyes checked....Bikinis??? I was there the whole 3 days and didnt see anything of the sort! Maybe you need to look through some of the photographers photos to see she is talking Sh!t ETA: "disapointed to see young pups with roach backs, toes pointing the wrong way and hocks rubbing, only to hear the judge comment that the dog winning the particular class would be an asset to the breed and anyone not using this dog in their breeding program would be making a mistake." ....that was said of a young pup?..... As if! Now back to the SUBJECT!..... as 'Eric' states, "....if we want to socialize our dogs and puppies we do Allbreeds Showing which are very frequent" so Eric, i have to ask, what is one show a year? You did state that all breeds show are frequent! Do you desperatly need those points so bad that you need to run to a show when you know no other GSD will be present because of the national?......They are only worth something when there is actually competition!!
  6. These things are awesome, the ONLY squeek ball i have found that my shepherd doesnt break and LOVES!! Can I please order 2 LARGE I am in Melbourne
  7. have found out the 400mm is way out of my price range but the 300mm i can afford. anyone have experience with this size lens?
  8. I am after a lens for my Nikon D80 SLR. I am wanting something with a really good zoom, so if im far away i can still get close up shots. I am wanting it for nature shots etc, like when I go to the zoo. Does anyone know a good lens that will suit and what size i would need. Is a 400mm lens too big or too small?
  9. Im a newbie to the specialist ring too and love it!......all breeds is BORING and focuses more on the handles rather than the DOGS!! I have not found it intimidating at all, im mean...how can it be?? until people have actually done a specialist shepherd show their view is irrelevant! opinions are irrelevant at all, all opinions are good in a discussion Im guessing you meant "arnt"? well i think they are when there are people with no experience or knowledge in the subject speaking against it, how is that a good 'dicussion'?....A discussion is only good when there are people with experience in the subject! ...so far ALL people on here who compete in the specialist ring do not see double handling as a disadvantage.
  10. Im a newbie to the specialist ring too and love it!......all breeds is BORING and focuses more on the handles rather than the DOGS!! I have not found it intimidating at all, im mean...how can it be?? until people have actually done a specialist shepherd show their view is irrelevant! I explained how it is intimidating in my post.. and i dont think others (who have not done spec show) opinions are irrelevant at all, all opinions are good in a discussion I just found it, im the same age as you, its just me and my partner too but we JOINED THE CLUB and got to know people, you know, took some initiative.
  11. So do an Endurance Test with them. 20km at 10km per hour is a better test of structural stability than a handful of laps around a ring wouldn't you say? To pass requires obedience, soundness and fitness. Just the ticket I say. Poodlefan, have you ever competed/double handled in a GSD specialty show? Given that I've never owned a GSD, I think the answer is fairly obvious. ;) I've got a dog with an Endurance Title though. Have you? His heart rate dropped across the distance and he passed three vet checks and two obedience tests on the day though. That's two hours of trotting btw. Actually yes, my past dogs got their endurance titles, but my new pup I show is only 5 months old!!! however, Your views on the specialty ring and why it is a circus and shouldnt be allowed in the all breeds ring is IRRELEVENT because you have never been in one!
  12. firstly, its not a few laps, espcially in the older classes. Enducance has nothing to do with double handling but in saying that double handlng keeps the dog alert, ears up and concentraing lap after lap....its normal for a dog to get tired, but tired dogs dont always look exuberant and alert...double hanlding helps this!!!!!

  14. Specialty shows are about the DOG not about how well the handler can handle. What happens if that one and only gait around the ring wasnt done as its best?......Judging 30++ open dogs requires alot of time and alot of times around the ring.
  15. We never said that angelsun and of corse not, but its not up to us shepherd people on how the border collie people want to 'roll'....we do it our way because we thinks it the best way for our breed. What does showing the 'specialty way' have to do with one breed standard?
  16. Get this.... Sit in front of your dog and think in your head "Ok, i want you to drop" So the dog has been taught to free shape so he does it...he sits....nope, no reward, he shakes hands nope, no reward....he drops, YAY REWARD Next time, you want your dog to sit. so the dog starts freeshaping.....drop, NOPE......bow....NOPE, SIT YAY REWARD The dog is actually not learning a thing, he is only learning to offer different behaviours thats it., he WILL NEVER know what your thinkings, its SIMPLE... your dog cant read your mind BUT If there are props involved then its a different story becuase props are what que the dog on what to do. From what i have said above, your dogs can't learn tricks by freeshaping and they cant learn basic obedience from it either JMO from my own experience
  17. The aim is to get your dog thinking and problem solving. He offers up a behaviour. No reward. Try something else etc. Yes i understand the theory BUT if you want your dog to sit and you dont tell him and he doesnt know what you actually want so he starts offering behaviours I dont see how that is teaching him anything?....He will NEVER learn because you never tell him what you want...he always have to offer. I do understand though with having props like Kavik mention, i get that, but with tricks and even basic obedience i find it doesnt work. I found it worked with weaving because weaves where in front of him and he really couldnt offer different behaviours....the weavepoles were his que

  19. I really dont understand why you would try shaping especially for obedience....How can a dog understand something if it isnt told?!?!?...think about it, its an animal, why make it hard for your dog? I have done shaping and found it only to work well for teaching weaves, however for anthing else, including obedience or tricks my dog was EXTREMELY confused....he ended up so confused that i had to reteach him basic stuff!! I would ask him to "sit" and he would drop, then bow or try and shake hands etc....he ended up not actually listening to me but offering everything he ever learnt until he recieved the treat. "You can really see her thinking 'what do you want?'. Very cute. " Exactly, how is the dog to know what you want? in the end you will have a dog offering everything he knows!
  20. I always thought it was dependent on how well you 'trained' prey drive... I know dogs have it naturally but of corse you can enhance it with teaching to tug etc..... My view is which ever one has higher value, simply from the trainer reenforcing CORRECTLY and making it fun is one the dog will prefer Edit to say........for a puppy food is more dominate as getting a meal and eating it before all litter mates is continually reenforced....as the pup gets older you can introduce prey drive by playing and if you do it right and make it fun, fun , fun it will overide food drive.
  21. Oooo always admired the Showioz borders..........one day
