Snakes - Fruit bats I sure hope Leah doesn't go down that path : :nahnah: I can certainly understand your mum not wanting to go into your room! A birthing cat is a lot less intimidating I found a food Tammy will eat, thinly sliced medium rare grilled rump steak yay! and she also likes the Artemis biscuits CBL gave me She is pretty good with responding to a clap or if I click my fingers. I think she smiles at me sometimes but tail wags are rare. Ooooo I love her soooo much -

Thanks T, yes very much like me when I was a little girl. She does seem to have a calming way with the dogs, she is a great help with the fosters and always comes with me if we have to go to the vet or the pound. As a child I used to bring every stray animal in the area home. Everything from the usual cats and dogs to a turkey( I still remember trying to pick that thing up ), lizards, a big white duck and many turtle's. My mum often recalls the day she came home from work to find my bedroom (I was 11 at the time, 5th class)draped with plastic and blankets, an open can of tuna (all I could find in a catless house) and a bowl of water on the floor. When she looked further a cat she had never seen before was birthing its kittens under my bed... Earlier that day at the school assembly a teacher asked if anyone owned the very pregnant rather unfriendly cat living in the ash tray of the school incinerator.... Of course no one did, so she says ok, we'll get someone to come and take it. I was a junior memb of the RSPCA and thought the cranky cat would be PTS so in a flash of brilliance up goes my hand and I spurted out, ohh THAT pregnant cat, yes she is mine :D Lunch bell rang, I scoop up the hugely pregnant cat, pop her in a box I found near the incinerator and sneak out the back school gate to take puss to the safety of my bedroom before racing back to school. We had tiny for many many years after that, she was never very friendly but safe happy & cared for. Leah wants to be a vet or work at the Zoo. Or both She says she will still foster rescues like we do when shes grown up I could handle a vet in the family, would be very convenient indeed! -

Oh Aphra how very sad, she looked so lovely . Im so sorry for both of you. Even the young one I have here looks to have had a litter or 2 Lucky she got out before the life had been bred out of her. RIP Wilma, run free sweet girl Sorry for the off-topic aside, but ... Sadly, we had to have Wilma put to sleep yesterday. When we took her in for desexing she was found to be full of mammary cancer. It's so sad, she was such a sweet tempered and funny dog; she adored humans and just wanted to be near them. She should have had a lovely life with people who cared about her instead of being used as a breeding machine by some low-lifes. Vale sweet Wilma, I hope there are any number of tummy rubs over the bridge for you. -

Ahh you know Leah well Cyn, being deaf hasnt excused Tammy from being read out loud to . Leah has been reading Paul Jennings Funniest Stories to her. She cuddles up to Tammy in the jumbo donut dog bed and believes even if she can't hear the words she can still feel her reading out loud to her and might like it. Tammy certainly doesnt object I'll have to grab a pic next time I spot them. -

Caz - your furkids are beautiful - is Diva the bub we had here? If so boy she looks so different - well done! Hi Lynne, Thankyou, they are a nice bunch aren't they and all get along which is always a bonus Yes this is the girl you kindly picked up off transport and took home for me in the middle of the night (bless you, that was a big ask) when I was at my sons wedding. She had the messed up eye and was pretty skinny. She is a looker now isnt she! Beautiful nature too, gentle smoochy, quiet girl, she plays like a puppy, she's so cute. I adore her. Her eye is now 100% fixed , we weren't sure if it would ever be right for a while there. The infection went with treatment but the eye still didn't open properly and when you did see in it didn't look right....you may remember that her eyes looked weird somehow. How are Cloud and Shy doing? -

You are welcome here anytime A-B-C! So are China and Bron . I cant believe how totally besotted I am with Tammy, its like having a new baby all over again! LOL. Im aware how long she has slept for, how long she has been awake for, I check on her breathing too often Im sure , (yes even in the night, but she is in the same room so I just put my hand on her))I know exactly what she has eaten and drank and when, I know what comes out the other end and when ect ect.... Today she has started to come to me for a pat which is just so special :D , she is eating today too which is a relief. Yesterday she seemed sad and lost, wouldnt eat or drink anything (very stressful !). Thanks for all the kind words everyone , Every home should have a Nana dog -

Thats such a funny description Aphra but pretty accurate as well ! Yes it sounds like it, Karley was telling me they came from the same place. This girl is just delightful. She has fitted in here so well. Looks to me like has had a litter herself...maybe there will be more of their family to come? I tend to call her Woof, I was hoping Karley may know her name as she was a surrender, but she doesnt so we will have to think one up. Leah likes the name Megs or Honey, my almost teenage son wanted to call her Ranga(like Orangatan) because of the long red tipped hair :D but I think we'll pass on that one LOL Great looking pooch she is and no trouble at all . -

Oh yes mita, Tammy has taught us all very quickly. I knew she had to be here as soon as I saw her but didn't think past that she was dear old thing that needed help. Well she has really blown my sox off, I didn't expect 'the feeling' you mention and obviously know well . Tammy has already given us way more than we could ever give her. It honestly feels like such a huge privilege to have her in our home. I had no idea it would be like that and you are 100% right mita, you couldn't explain 'the feeling' to someone who hasn't had the experience. The love and admiration I have for this girl that I have only known for such a short time is somewhat bizarre Thankyou mita, I will get some Protexin -

Thanks Dogmad, no you couldn't tell from the pound photo, I was shocked to see how thin she was...8.2 kg is nothing for a dog her size. The vets did run bloods on her while she was there and were amazed at how good they were, it didn't show any irregularities at all. Her teeth are a bit of a mess but she still has most of them She was taking Sharni's Advance biscuits yesterday which are quite large and chewing them up. I will try the sardines and tuna to encourage her to eat a bit more. Thanks for the tips, Im going to need them, she isnt eating much at all this morning . I havent had a good look in her ears, I just wiped them when I bathed her but I will check them more closely today. I never leave any of my dogs together if Im not here. They all have their crates for night time, (except Rocko who sleeps on his mattress and Ziggy sleeps with me ) or when I have to go out. Tammy likes the cot mattress set up under the window in the back bedroom(just off the family room) same room I use for a whelping room so it has a gate and a lockable door, she will wander in there for a snooze during the day and took herself off to bed at about 8pm last night! lol I have a memory foam overlay and vetbed on it for her. I sleep in there with her at night. So that can be her room now for when I have to go out. I work from home so am here 99% of the time. My work area is off the family room that leads to the yard so I can see my pooches whether they are inside with me or out in the yard. Caz.. -
This sweet old girls face got to me when I saw her picture in Urgent Rescue Canterbury Pound thread , lots of dogs pull my heartstrings but Tammy was different Well I picked her up this morning and this beautiful 16 year old lady absolutely melts me, she's the size of a kelpie with cattle dog coloured feet and a white chest, she weighs a tiny 8.2kg , just skin and bone, but barely sits still for a minute. Like one of those wiry old ladies that go a million miles an hour! She stood up all the way home in the car, watching out the windows... When we got home she tottered all over the front yard before I brought her in for a bath. She happily let me wash every little bit of her oh so gently, she feels so fragile! . She loved being toweled off, wagging her tail and shaking herself off balance before coming back for more towel Her coat is so soft. Vets said she was hardly eating anything. Well bless her she likes my cooking! and has eaten a couple of tablespoons about 6 times since being here(about 1pm) I cooked up some chicken thighs and rice and put a little Vets all Natural Health Booster on it when I give it to her. She has also eaten some Advance puppy kibble and seems to chew them up with out any problem. So Im hopeful I can improve her body condition a little but only time will tell. I haven't had such an elderly dog before so if anyone has any advice or tips Id welcome them with open arms! She is pretty much deaf (which could be in her favor here lol), has cataracts on both eyes but can see and she gets around very well. She has spent hours in the yard this afternoon sniffing every square inch while the other dogs play in the back ground, they all get on famously and seem to know she is old and show her respect. Ziggy is a little jealous but that’s just Princess Ziggy! Lol Diva, the Ridgey x Dane pup is a foster from Hay and Sharni the crazy cattle x is mine. Checking out the neighbours.. The 4 girls.. Rocko and Ziggy stayed on the lounge to make sure Wolfie didn't pinch it! Tammy finally lay down for a snooze about 4pm.. I can’t stop looking at her…. Im in awe!. I finally get it...I have read so many times people saying the oldies are very special and now I see so clearly why. My kids even get it now too, they didn't understand why I wanted to bring home a dog that we know we will not have for years and will unavoidably end in tears. But now they see how they can make a difference to her life and that NO dog should die with no one to shed a tear for them. We adore her. She has such a presence, you cant help but feel enormous respect for her, her frailty evokes such tenderness and care from all of us. She truly is amazing! Apparently the lady that surrendered her was terribly distressed at having to do so. I have given my contact details to the staff so they can let her know that Tammy has a home and will be safe, loved and cared for forever! And just because I think she is such a great pooch.. my foster Diva (she was the skinny girl from Hay Pound )

You've gone and made me cry How wonderful for that little dog !!. Well done k9angel I have been watching her in the Blacktown post and she was so pretty I thought for sure she would be adopted. Isnt it sad how sometimes really lovely dogs are overlooked. Jasmine is such a sweet name! What a lovely warm fuzzy read.

I used Advance Puppy as the base of Ziggy's diet. Adding cooked chicken thigh fillets and rice with pumpkin & spinach, Vets all Natural Health Booster and rotating the regular additions of sardines, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt ect. I fed her 4 to 5 meals a day of as much as she's eat. I also gave her Biolac to drink twice a day with Calcium Sandoz added.. I worked hard on her nutrition as she had been a street stray who only came to me (as rescue under DOC)5 days before delivering 7 pups. I presumed she was starting behind the 8 ball as her pregnancy nutrition would have mainly been scraps she found on the street . My idea was that the better I could get mums health/condition the easier the whole event would be for her and in turn...for me  On the above diet she delivered 7 small but healthy pups that grew like crazy and she managed to feed them all very successfully and even gain some weight herself. At 4-5 weeks I weaned the pups onto Advance puppy and they all thrived. It was an expensive exercise at the time but a healthy litter of pups and and mum was worth every cent. Caz..

I agree, Id be onto the vet straight away even at 1.20am!. As soon as I read 'squirted' alarm bells rang. Bleeding mouths can look worse than than they are because of the saliva mixing with the blood BUT mouths are also great at healing up/clotting quickly.... it should have settled by now. Poor pup, let us know how he goes

Agility In Sydney This Weekend

This sounds great Vickie, just what Leah and I need to get motivated with Sharni's training I will see you there on Sunday! Caz.. -
I use the Vets All Natural Health Booster in your link and think its excellent. I had a rescue foster that was very pregnant and skinny and I had her on that from day 1 right through till now(16 weeks later). She managed to deliver 7 healthy BIG pups and feed the lot of them and gain weight along the way. Obviously not all because of the Health Booster, I worked hard on her overall nutrition as well but I feel it was a good natural way to ensure extra vits and minerals were on board when she needed them.

Your poor little pup and poor you, I know how aweful it is to have a sick puppy... I have almost finished 2 weeks crating for a very active 15 week old pup after abdominal surgery. After battling with him for 3 days the vet gave him a very mild sedative, just half dose that was enough to relax him and has made the time much easier for him, not to mention the rest of our house and the neighbours! His constant high pitch barking was very upsetting to hear and driving us all mad It doesn't knock him out, he's awake and quietly playing with his toys ,chewing bones ect, just in a much calmer manner compared to his usual flat out tearing around personality. He comes out for cuddles with us and his mum, story time and toilet but no running around.(my daughter has read out loud to the pups since they were born and Seth still loves to lie quietly on her for a story) If the other dogs are playing I move his crate into another room so he doesn't get hyped up watching them. I have his crate up, he can still see everything going on, just not at his level. When it was at ground level he was desperate to get out, he would put his legs out between the rails in an effort to play with his mum and the other dogs and I feared him ending up with a broken limb. Good luck, its not easy but very important for her to heal well. Caz..

Hi Stitch, Thankyou for your reply I was hoping just slow but its weeks now since all the others have had theirs come through. As for history I have nothing, I don't even know what breeds are in these pups. Mum is a rescue I am fostering. I got her 5 days before these pups were born. I don't even know what breeds are in them, only thing Im sure of is that at least one of the dads was much bigger than mum as the pups look too big for their tiny mum! lol Kiko is almost half her mums weight at 7 weeks old. This is mum & pups @ 6 weeks There is a space for them but I cant see or feel even the beginning of a tooth pushing through. This is the pup.. Maisie. Damn she's cute Im guessing its not all that common going by the amount of reply's. There will be no breeding for these little guys, all will be desexed before they leave so that side of things isnt a concern Caz..

I have a litter of 7 pups, 7 weeks old and 1 doesn't have canine teeth..... is this a problem? She has all the other teeth expected for her age. The other pups have had them for 2-3 weeks now.

Sharni Sharni's mum was a papered blue cattle dog who was lined up for mating with another pure cattle dog but his mates Foxy got to her first.... When we picked her up we took a soft teddy bear with us that was blue cattle coloured and asked the owner to rub it all over the mum for us. Sharni slept next to it for comfort. almost 1 year later teddy is empty of stuffing and is the favorite toy... I think he's letting her win! lol She was the runt of the litter and has very odd markings. One side of her face is cattle and one side is Foxy. She has red and blue in her coat, a white saddle and a foxy patch on her bum. Top natured hypo dog she is! Big boy in the pics is Rocko, we have only had him since January. Foster failure from Kurri Pound, devine creature he is :D Caz...

Chopper the day Tom picked him up from the airport.. His favorite snuggle.. 2 years later his favorite snuggle was still his favorite snuggle.. Beautiful funny boy he is, one of the most challenging dogs I have raised but what a wonderful animal he is, Mr personality plus! I couldnt count the number of times I covered for him.. No Tom, nothing happenned to the hose-shoes-railing- football- carpet-mattress-basket of toilet paper-your doona... I just decided to get new ones ok . :D I miss him so much Chop lived with us for 2.5 years and just adored my youngest son Jack(in the pics), he was my older sons dog and when he moved out he took him with him . We still see him all the time. Caz..

I agree 100% Pitbull 575. Brown stuff in abundance for him every day ! Not nearly long enough behind bars, not that any length of jail time could match the enormity of that crime. I doubt any sponsors will want to be associated with his name now and I have to believe Karma will take care of him.. Just remembering the story makes me feel physically ill , all those beautiful dogs, so eager to please, at the hands of such monsters. Caz..
