  1. Empty, well almost empty Peanut Butter Jars...they all love them and continue to chew and play with them long after they are licked clean. Another unusual favorite is padded wooden coat hangers. I remove the hook first. Barbie dolls are also prize finds for the dogs
  2. Oh another Ruger! Your Ruger is very handsome too :D Snoozing in his food bowl
  3. These are my 2 most recent fosters and they are just such scrumptious pooches I thought I'd share They were born 2/12/09, so 2.5 months old. Charlotte and Ruger. Last week Charlotte weighed 10.7kg after gaining 2.7kg the previous week :D She is a soft people focused snuggle bum. Last week Ruger weighed 10.5kg after gaining 2.5kg the previous week... Ruger is a little more aloof than Charlotte but still very cuddly, he's a floppy Teddy Bear, a BIG floppy Teddy Bear Aren't they beautiful creatures! This is Ruger sharing food with a 4kg Cattle x pup that is just 2 days younger than he is... I think he'll be a big boy
  4. There is nothing better than a Staffy smile Except maybe Old Boy's silver muzzle Staffy smile, isnt he something
  5. Oh they are beautiful! I just love brindle dogs and those photo's show them off wonderfully!
  6. I was about to say that was where I bought mine Yep me too k9force
  7. I second that, I love my NFS run. Great quality, I put it up myself in 15mins. Very adaptable too. Mine is 6'X 8' but has 2 doors on one side so if I need two 6' x 4' runs I can just add 1 panel. Caz
  8. Same colour as my sons Amstaff and he is Seal. First impression is he's black but in sunlight or strong light you can see the dark red/liver colour. He was only a bubby here, now there's some funky ears for you Approx 2 years, still has the one up and one down ears Caz :p
  9. I thought it was about time I updated Tammy's thread as this gorgeous creature continues to amaze and amuse us daily. On checking her paperwork she was actually born in 1992 and chipped early 1993 so my sprightly old girl is actually 1 year older than we first thought She is 17 years old turning 18 later this year. Tammy has gone from strength to strength since having her dental work done. She is on a renal diet and we have also fixed her incontinence problem so no more wet beds! Yay .. Isn't she beautiful , I just adore that snowy mask and her soft ears, she is the perfect dog in every way! She is so fit! I hadn't been taking her for walks in the early days, I was worried about over doing it with her and she did lots of laps of the yard numerous times every day. Then she started to leap up at me and grab the lead whenever she saw me getting them out, prancing in circles excitedly and barking at me....obviously she wanted to go to!. I took her with Rocko as he doesn't walk as far or fast as the young girls and I avoid the hills for him. She did it standing on her ear while poor Rocko was panting away After a few more of those easy walks I took her to the beach and she just about dragged us the full length of McCauley's and back before heading off into the water up to her neck ;) , I wasn't dressed for swimming but Im sure she would have gone in further if I had been. When she got out she was all excited and did zoomies up and down like she does after a bath. She has us laughing so often with her totally unexpected antics. Im sure she has no idea how old she is, here I was thinking she would be sleeping away her days in front of the lounge room window! ;) She initiates play with my latest foster puppy Lani, play bowing and jumping about in front of her when she wants Lani to chase her just one more behaviour that surprised me , Lani is a BIG 22kg 20 week old pup...twice her weight but they zoom all over the yard with Tammy hurdling things like stairs and the garden bed, she will do a wide graceful jump over just about anything...a toy, the hose...it had me wondering if maybe she had done agility in her younger years?. Lani plays with her very differently to how she plays with the other dogs, Tammy showed her chasing is great fun but touch me and I'll tell you off , its wonderful to see such a switched on pup learning from such a special old lady. Tammy is inspirational! We all love her to bits and Im so very proud of her. When my kids returned after being with their dad for a week Tammy was beside herself with excitement, she was jumping clear off the floor, barking and wagging madly. She had clearly missed them very much, it was wonderful to see and made me think about how old is too old to rehome a dog? Not that I would ever part with Tammy but she is such a happy girl and even with minimal vision and no hearing she has adapted so well and is truly a part of our family. It feels like we have had her forever! I wouldnt have thought that would happen with such an elderly dog. This is her friend Lani. Lani was 10.9 kg 1 month ago when she had her first vaccs, last week before getting her booster C3 she weighed in at 22kg.... she is the fastest growing pup I have ever seen Her skin is huge, you could fit another Lani size dog in it with her She is squishy & scrumptious, easiest puppy ever! Caz..
  10. Just point and shoot pics but these ones always make me smile.. Id hear " 'Splash', mum he's in the bath again!" Leah reading bedtime stories... My heartdog Rocko with Ziggy.
  11. congrats becandcharch!! asha sure has a smoochy face. i love those smoochy faces!
  12. What a wonderful video clip!, I have tears rolling down my face. Can't wait to show my kids in the morning. Thankyou for posting the link Caz.. ;)
  13. My girls are home safe and sound! Tammy gave them a run for their money lol, she chewed up 2 drips and barked at the staff constantly ... I can see her now, Wheres my mum?, Why am I in a cage?, I want medium rare rump steak- I dont eat dog food!, hey you, I want to go outside, I dont like that dog looking at me, now I have wet my vetbed cause you wouldnt take me outside..I want a clean one! bark bark bark! She can be a bossy miss :p She did very well with the GA , her teeth look great now. None had to come out. Like mita said the pre and post op care/support makes all the difference. Im very fond of my vet, she takes so much care with my dogs and I appreciate it very much. Tammy was very happy to see me tonight, she dragged me out the door to the car and stood up looking out the window all the way home. I took her bed in for the trip home, thinking I would be bringing home a wiped out old doggy lol. She is sleepy now she's home, gets up for a drink and heads outside for the ritual lap of the yard perimeters and back to bed she goes. Im sure she has no idea of the stress I was feeling today, wondering if I was doing the right thing by her. I will keep an extra close eye on her over the next few days but at the moment Im thrilled with how well she seems. My beautiful Woof was/is a sad and sleepy girl, she WASN'T desexed after all, so just as well we did the surgery. Looks like the existing scar may have been from a hernia. She will be fine in the morning ;) Thankyou for all the good wishes for Tammy(and me :D ) today, Im sure they helped lots! **I saw Libby today :nahnah: , the other Wagga Wolfie I rehomed a few months back. She was in the waiting room at the vets when I came out after leaving Woof this morning. It was so lovely to cuddle her again, she remembered me straight away and went crazy lol, she smooched me all over and climbed into my lap, such a good feeling. She looked wonderful.
  14. My precious old girl is at the vets tonight in preparation for tomorrows dental work. My vet did blood work on her last week and we found out her kidneys aren't the best...I thought she drank alot We weighed up the risks of GA but her teeth are such a mess that the chance of them causing her trouble before too much longer is high so tomorrow its happening. She went in this afternoon to get set up with a drip to support her kidneys by keeping her very well hydrated pre and post GA. I miss her so much tonight and worry about how she is, I hope she isnt scared or cold or lonely ;) I took in her vetbed and a spare one. Woof my Wagga Wolfie is being desexed tomorrow(if she isnt already!) so I will be able to check up on how Tammy went overnight when I drop Woof off in the morning. for my 2 special girls tomorrow.
  15. Thanks Muttaburra, I have been blessed ! We have Tammy What bones other than chicken necks would be suitable for a Nana dog? I'll give her a bit longer before I book her in for her dental, at the very least Id like to see a few more kilo's on her, she is still very thin. Everyone has been so helpful with their advice, I can't thank you all enough. The food tips have been great. She loves chicken necks, grilled steak is still a favorite as is BBQ chicken and the boiled sausage is also a hit with her Her appetite has definitely improved, maybe its the Protexin Powder. She gets very cranky if the other dogs are even in sight when I have her food!! They dont have to be in the same room, even if she can see them outside she will bark and fly angrily at them, feisty little thing she is lol , surprised me a bit. She isnt even put off by Rocko's size! She has also showed some possessiveness with me, doesn't like another dog coming near or even looking at her if I am with her, she will growl and bark chasing them away. Both understandable behaviors and easy to work with. Seems she is incontinent when she sleeps soundly . She took a liking to Ziggy's plastic tub bed so I have set it up for her with memory foam mattress, a puppy training wee mat and then vet bed. Easy to change the wee mat and vet bed so she stays clean & dry. I'll have to get some more pictures of her now she is coming out of her shell. She is sooooo very pretty :p
  16. Yep Better to do it while she is still young and fit rather than wait till she's old and they cause her problems The vet was very impressed with her for 16 years old. I left there feeling like I had won the lottery My beautiful girl will really have a killer smile with clean teeth.. She actually seemed to enjoy her little outing yesterday, my concerns about it stressing her were silly!
  17. Tammy had her appointment with my vet today for a full check over and she has come through with flying colours! I was so thrilled, looks like we may have her for quite some time She is now 9.7kg so thats 1.5kg gain since I picked her up just over a week ago , her heart sounds great, no sign of heart disease, lungs sound good, all her joints are fine, ears are clean. A blood screen was done while she was at the pound and that was all excellent too. What an amazing girl to be so healthy at the ripe old age of 16! Yes she has cataracts but seems to be able to see reasonably well. I'll put a night light in our room to aid her nighttime vision. The only problem she has is her teeth which are in dire need of attention. My vet feels she would cope just fine with a light GA for dental clean and polish and the benefits to her well worth it. It doesn't look like any teeth have to come out at this stage. So I am a very happy Vegemite tonight, yay for sweet little Tammy!!
  18. Oh my , isnt she beautiful! So pleased to hear she now has a home .
  19. Thankyou for the food tip sumosmum and Robbi MUCH appreciated. Robbi this girl of mine sounds very similar to yours, what she loves one day she will sniff and walk away from the next.... The up side is my other dogs are getting some pretty cool 'treats' when she wont eat it. I haven't tried her with chicken necks, I'll grab some today. So sorry about Daisy , she sounds lovely. Robbi what does the apple cider vinegar in their water do?
  20. Hi dogbesotted, Her poo is quite normal, dark & formed. The Protexin Powder arrived for her yesterday, thats a pro-biotic I think, is that the same as digestive enzymes? She has started to wag her tail when she see's me or the kids and she jumps up onto the lounge and onto my bed. She digs herself a nest in my doona and curls up lol. Would any other dog here be allowed to do that?? I dont think so...but when she does it is so very endearing .
  21. Not nearly enough! Its very hard to stay on task with the business when I have all these gorgous dogs around me that are so much more rewarding to spend time with than the computer or customers. Vanilla is itching like crazy since her groom, so I'll give her a rinse again today and put some aloveen conditioner on her. Aloveen is lovely stuff isnt it . I was sent some Evening Primrose Oil Dog shampoo (I don't know who by? ) that is meant to be fantastic for itchy dogs. Let me know if you'd like to try it on Vanilla and I will send some up to you, I have a BIG bottle here.
  22. So she doesn't get stressed, can you put some doggie toothpaste on your finger....or on the corner of a thin facecloth....& gently rub her teeth. Some of that brown stuff might slough off. See if she can get used to this in little spurts. Also there's Purina Dental Chews (available from Coles). A breeder recommended them for my senior dogs. I hope, Caz & Tammy, you don't mind me telling Qld'ers who'd love a senior gem, that there's a pretty ACD x girl, around 12 yrs of age, in the Golden Oldies adoption program at AWL Qld on the Gold Coast. Classy name, Prada, for a classy dame whose coat is red, white, black & tan. Enquiries: 5509 9000 Thanks mita, I have a dog toothbrush that goes over your finger and 'chicken' flavored (eeuuwwww) dog toothpaste here, I will see if she'll let me have a go. I got some dental chews today too, I'll give her one tomorrow. Ohhh poor Prada , I hope she gets a home soon. Pounds are no place for any dog but the oldies must find it terrible.
  23. I've been using Flaxseed oil as well, Caz, with the fosters. My own dogs are such fussy eaters there is no way I could disguise anything in their food. Vanilla is itching like crazy since her groom, so I'll give her a rinse again today and put some aloveen conditioner on her. Tammy is pretty old, so I imagine a bit of her weight problem is due to that. Old people lose interest in food and I guess dogs do too. Her teeth look pretty brown in that smiling photo. Could they be hurting her? A dental can sometimes be the turning point for dogs, but then you'd need to consider the risks of a GA for a girl her age. Her teeth are very brown! I dont think they are hurting her as she will crunch into Rocko's or Sharni's large Advance biscuits quite easily It surprised me. Strangely her breath isnt that bad, so Im hopeful that indicates there isnt an infection in there. But she is tooo thin, I can clearly see every vertebra and rib and her hips and pelvis stick out I'll take her to the vet next week and get him to have a good look. I just wanted her to be feeling safe with me before I took her anywhere. Im scared of stressing her. She is so precious Cyn
  24. Thanks for the tip Robbi , I will get some lamb flaps today. She seems to have 1 day she'll eat and then the next day she wont ? I can see every bone in her body, she has no fat at all :p Is your girl skinny? Berry, the chicken mince I order through my pet food and produce store. 20kg is $18.00 so great value when Im feeding a few boofa's. Its whole chickens minced, bones and all. I get the medium fat one as Im usually trying to get condition onto skinny fosters and it works a treat.... I just over did it with Rocko Oooops I use all different mince from the supermarket-pork, veal, turkey, beef, lamb and if I have a strong stomach on the day roo I have used Flaxseed oil for years with the dogs and swear by it for skin and coat. I just stab a capsule over their dinner about 3 times a week. Fish oil is great too :D . Tessa is so beautiful, she looks like she has been with your kids forever!
  25. Thanks berry, Im definitely not a saint ! What do I feed Rocko? Too much it seems... He was 67.5kg last week when the vet weighed him so he is on a diet. I hadn't really noticed the weight creeping up on him. Bit like myself! I like Advance dog food. Rocko was on adult large breed but I mixed it with chicken mince or my cooked chicken and rice and he had frames and necks too, and every alternate day all the dogs get one of the following, cottage cheese, sardines, egg, pumpkin & spinach mash. Now Rocko is on Advance Weight control and half the quantity. Instead of adding chicken mince he gets 2 tbs of premium beef mince with hot water so it makes like a soup that I pour over his bickies. He still gets the extras, just less of them. I think he is so shiny from being patted all the time by everyone
