  1. Yay more puppie photos But I still want more please
  2. I live over near port lincoln But heading to Adelaide in a few weeks, so want to sort it out before we go, so we don't spend precious time there driving all over the place ;) I used to live not far from Olivers, so know it well. I will check out the stock feed stores. Cheers for the advice
  3. Hey just wondering if anyone knows any stockists in Adelaide for 'Bonnie working dog', and if so what price? Or online site that sells it? Ta
  4. Hi, after many many months of researching I finally bought a DSLR!! I decided on the Olympus e520. As I am new to the world of DSLR I was thinking about investing in one of the "how to" guides. Does anyone have any recommendations for one that is suitable for a beginner? Does anyone have the "Digital SLR Cameras & Photography For Dummies"? What are peoples thoughts on this book? I would love to do a few classes, but as I live out in the country this is not something that is an option for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
  5. I am considering getting an Olympus e520 with either one of the twin lens kits. I have had a look around on the net, but have noticed some do not offer an international warranty, which I want. Does anyone have any recommendations of great places to buy a camera from? I live in rural SA, so even if buying from a 'real shop' I would be needing postal delivery. I am new to the world of SLRs. Can someone explain to me in simple terms what type of photos each of the kit lenses would be used for and which twin kit would be best for versatility - 14-42mm & 40-150mm or the more expensive 14-42mm & 70-300mm. 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 Standard Wide Zoom Lens 40-150mm F3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens 70-300mm F4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens Also any recommendations for a beginners guide to DSLRs & photography?
  6. Make sure you come visit us in the Retriever thread in the breed sub forum... but you have to promise photos
  7. With regards to the brushing, have lots of small tasty treats handy and slowly introduce the brush - first by just putting it near the pup and then slowly start touching the pup with it, gradually building up to proper brushing (feeding her treats while you do this) - pup will learn that brushing = yummy treats, and gradually learn to accept brushing as a positive thing.
  8. they range from 8 weeks to 10 weeks - in reverse order, so 8 weeks in the last photo, 10 weeks in the 1st. I see our little ones ALMOST share birthdays! I too can't believe how much bigger Bailey has gotten in just the last 2.5 weeks, but then I think back to how small she was at 4 weeks and how big she is now! I am also paranoid about her growing to fast, but I think the main thing is to make sure they don't become chubby bubbies!
  9. Name: Miss Bailey Sex: female Date of birth: 20 May 2008 Age: 10 weeks Colour: Gold Breed: Golden Retriever Hobbies: chewing, playing with my slippers, sleeping, doing zoomies, doing the gardening Loves: toys, toys... and toys. Hates: don't leave me alone and I'm pretty happy!
  10. Perhaps have a look into Crate training. There are LOTS of threads on here about crate training, and lots of websites on the net. Also worth reading "Before you get your puppy" which you can get for free from here http://www.siriuspup.com/beforebook.html Good luck, I'm sure lots of other people will be able to offer you lots of sound advice on here. We need pictures when they arrive
  11. Hi, just wondering if anyone could recommend some good books or dvds on Herding Training. Thanks
  12. Congrats on the new puppy! What breed is your new pup? Good to hear everything is back to 'normal'. I too have only had my pup for several days, and although I have had dogs before, it has been many many years since owning a puppy, and now that I am older and much more aware of all the health issues etc, I do worry about little things, but i guess it just comes with the territory of being a new mum/dad!! What brand of dry food did the breeder give you?
  13. Hi, I got my Golden Retriever pup a few days ago. I decided to go with the crate training and so far very happy with it. There have been no toileting 'accidents' yet, and she happily takes her self to her crate if she feels like a nap. It is also comforting for me knowing that at night she can't get into too much mischief. Best to go for a crate that will be big enough when the pup is fully grown and just make it a bit smaller while the pup is still little. All the best with your new pup. Just make sure you have plenty of chew toys!!!!!
  14. So I'm not the only one! Maybe they're not selling them atm because I couldn't see any crates on their site either I had a look too, couldn't see them on there. I ordered mine about a month ago. Perhaps send them an email and see if they are getting anymore in. The one I got was "PH0057 Dog Home - Galvanised Portable - 104 x 63 x 71cm" $59.90 incl postage Aust wide. Hope that helps. Was the cheapest I found by far once postage was added.
  15. anyone had experience with the above cameras? all this camera talk has really got me sucked in... Im starting to think i may have to get one for MY chrissy present!!!!
  16. I got my wire crate from Deals Direct. I got the larger one (Im getting a Golden Retriever). It isn't the 'best quality' one you can get, but it sure is sturdy enough if it is just to use around the house. The only down side is that it only has 1 door (some have 2), but for me that is fine. I will use a divider while the pup is small to help with toileting. Another thing to consider is a playpen... try bunnings in the compost isle. The compost cages sell for about $20 - prob grab 2 and put them together - much much cheaper than you will find anywhere else for a play pen.
  17. Thanks guys, I'll pass this info on to them. Should be a start for them at least!
  18. oohhh... what are the dates??? My parents live in the Riverland... hmm.. might be visiting them then!! Your trip still going ahead... you are visiting just about all the places I have lived in SA!! hehe... The towns in the Riverland are all reasonably close together, so you can easily stay at one of the other towns.
  19. It won't do any harm whatsoever. If you are giving 8 (well, your breeder sould be the one giving this vaccine and then you shouldn't be taking puppy home until 10wks of age if that's the case) & 12 wks vaccs... then giving the Parvac vaccine at between 16-18wks would be a very good idea in an area kown for a high Parvo rate. I wouldn't give any vaccine higher than a C3 because I believe that it is enough for an immature immune system to deal with. If you feel the need, a C5 could be given at 12mths of age as the booster. Thanks, that is along the lines of what I was considering doing. I just like to put the question out there to fellow DOLers to hear other peoples suggestions. I didn't think the one extra Parvo vac would do much harm, but just wanted to see if others agree.
  20. Just more concerned at if the extra PARVO vac will possibly do more harm than good. I realise that if an immunity has already been built that the extra wont make her more immune, just more to make extra sure. Unfortunately I only have access to 2 veterinary practices to choose from.
  21. sorry, not actually sure if it is at 6 weeks, just will have had 1st vac when we collect her. Vet said that the parvo at 16 weeks would be on top of the usual course of vacs
  22. I just rang the 2 vets in my local area to ask a few questions to help me decide which vet I will use (still a couple of weeks away from getting my pup). One was was very helpful and when asked about what vacs they use C3, C5, 3yearly, etc... I explained that I have some concerns about yearly vacs etc. They said they would use whatever I ultimately decided on. The other was strictly yearly C5, "why bother with C3 when its only $15 cheaper!!" :D it's not about the $$.... grrr Anyway the 1st vet (which I like better at this stage) said they also recommend giving a straight PARVO vac at 16 wks of age, as this area apparently is quite bad for Parvo (I live in a farming area so majority of dogs around here aren't vaccinated ever). Has anyone used the straight PARVO vac before? Would like some opinions on this. There are already lots of threads on the debate about how often to vaccinate, so lets not get into discussions about that, just want advice on the straight PARVO vac... Cheers!
  23. wow persephone.... those pics are great. Wish I could take photos like that. Perhaps I will have to save too.... hmm, but I'm sure I'll need some lessons too, not sure a good camera will take such good pics on its own!
