  1. Can you convince her to hold off til the babies are at least a couple of months old, once past the very real possibility of bed rest, c-section, early bubs still in hospital, and 6 weeks of taking it easy after c-section. Perhaps then once she's seen what not 1 but 2 babies are like she might be more inclined to hold off getting a puppy (let alone 2 large breed puppies!!) for a while I deliberately made sure we got our 2nd dog about 2 years before we'd planned to have a baby. That way we had a better chance of the dog being well trained and past the puppy/teen stage before adding a baby into the mix. I know a few that have twins (some first babies, some not) and they honestly at times have been very sleep deprived and struggle to find time to shower and eat, let alone keeping on top of the daily household tasks. Forget having time to properly look after 2 puppies! Ask would she actively choose to have quads?? ;)
  2. Some awesome Zoomies photos!! Mia as a puppy zoomies
  3. As soon as I saw this all I could think of was the Spice Girls and "Stop right now, thank you very much. I need somebody with a human touch..." Scary stuff. My Kung Fu Puppy
  4. Still cracks us up when OH & I talk about it. Bailey our Goldy was up on the bed, and she came up to our heads and stood over OH's face staring at him (usually code for take me outside). OH said "get away your breath stinks", Bailey leaned in a bit closer and huffed in his face My old JRT that still lives with my parents knows the spelling of WALK, so dad started using "Perambulation"... she has now figured out that word too
  5. Hey Fran, I've had 5 dogs over my lifetime and all have been different in their levels of "clingyness". Bailey my Goldy is quite independent, she loves to be near us but happy with her own space on the floor where she can see us. Mia my Aussie on the other hand is a real snuggle bunny and loves nothing more than spooning in bed or if we are in the lounge she needs to be resting on our feet Hope some of the tips given help you create more of a 'bond' with her
  6. Just bumping this thread to say HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY PUPPIES And a big thank you to LP for allowing little Mia (Misty) to jet set across the country to call my place home ;)
  7. I just bought a cheapy from Cheap as chips, the big one was about $30. Glad I didn't shell out for a good quality expensive one... no matter how much bribing I do, the girls never use it
  8. Thanks for this thread Rexiam... finally got off my butt and signed the girls up. It's been on my to do list for a very long time I've had dogs most of my life and have only ever had a couple of non routine vet visits. Let's hope things stay that way And hopefullly now that I am spending money on insurance I never get use out of it I signed up with Medibank as I am also though them.

Watched this movie last night - such a great story had to use a few tissues Even OH had a little eye leak... though he claims it was just because he was laying down on his side while we were watching it in bed
  10. Both my dogs are from non local breeders, one interstate and the other in the same state but over 8 hours drive away so couldn't just pop in for regular cuddles. With the GR I had regular / weekly emails usually with a couple of pics and although the couple both led very busy lives (shift workers) I still had my questions replied to within a day or two and were very organised with paperwork etc etc. My Aussie is from a fellow doler and she had many people hounding her for regular photos, so I didn't have to feel to guilty for the regular nagging for updates We got lots of photos and a few videos too. She has been wonderful with answering my never ending questions Now she's the one nagging me for more photos ;)
  11. The dogs get more kisses and cuddle than I do Bailey our GR gets picked up and cradled like a baby as soon as OH gets home each night. He does to Mia the Aussie too, but she isn't quite as big so it's not so dramatic And the nightly food routine of "sit - wait - ok" has an added step of a kiss on the head when oh does it. OH has gone from me having to convince OH to bend his "NO DOGS INSIDE" rule to at least allowed in the laundry / back room to me being the one having to reason with him why I don't want the dogs in the bed all night (they get up and wake me) He's grown up with the typical 'farm dog' attitude, so has done a complete flip from not being able to understand how I could possibly "love" my animals - to being concerned before we got our second dog that he couldn't possibly love it as much as he loves Bailey It's all good though, he's learnt you can love more than one dog
  12. I've also got a lean goldy, but she is hard to keep weight on and I'm always keeping an eye on her to make sure she doesn't get too skinny (wish her owner had this problem ). She also has fairly short body hair compared to some other GRs (still has the long trims though). I've had a few comments about how "long" she looks. One lady did say though that it is probably because she is used to seeing round goldies, so had forgotten what a healthy lean dog looks like. Bailey is around the 25kg mark, but I haven't weighed her in ages as I just go by her rib fat coverage. Honey looks fine to me ;) I think there are far too many fat labs and GRs around these days. Last yearly trip to the vet there was a hugely over weight goldy. She got on the scales she was 39kg Poor thing could barely walk. Made me so sad seeing it that overweight. There is 'fat and happy', but then there is just way too fat
  13. A friend in Adelaide has lost her dog. He went missing yesterday ( Fri 29th). They have only just moved to the area so he probably doesn't know where home is yet. His name is Chief, whippet x poodle white with scruffy hair. Medium size and very friendly. Micro-chipped but isn't registered yet as they have only just moved - they live in Seaford. She has rung the local vets, RCPCA, council etc, and also has a notice in today's paper. If anyone has any info please PM me Thanks

  15. Im not scared of spiders, but are not welcome inside. Huntsmans and daddies get escorted outside away from the house... the others are not so lucky. I've never seen a wolf spider... look at all those babies As a kid the huntsmans never bothered me inside until I woke up one night to something bushing my face, to see one on my bed! We had one for ages that lived in the laundry. Was a sad day when we found him a little flat
  16. This was the photo of her as a tiny pup that won my heart Have a very busy weekend ahead but will attempt for some updated photos
  17. Yeah, we need photos.... and before you say anything about Mia photos
  18. It's an Olympus E520, twin kit. Have ordered myself a how to book for DSLR & photography, so hopefully I can learn to take some nice photos... not just fluke it occasionally
