  1. Just heard on Face Book that the venue for this years ADAA Grand Prix has been double booked & we are the losers
  2. Good luck :) Just a shame that it is the breed close to my heart that is going to suffer & probably become a cowering, submissive, timebomb Please don't take it out on your dog when it kills your first rat And when the cat gives him a nasty scratch on the nose for trying to eat in peace, make sure you get a trainer in for the cat. I am not at all interested in finding out what this special trainer does or does not do to solve the problem, as I can hardly see it being done by "positive reinforcement"
  3. That's great BoxerB. Just make sure, being a pup that he doesn't chew it up. My boy went through three harnesses till he grew out of the "chew" stage at about 18 months. :)
  4. egg white depletes the body of biotin, but egg yolk has biotin in abundance! Whole eggs are fine. I've been feeding them to my dogs for many, many years. I also feed two meals a day. One of minced chicken carcass's and one of dry food. Sometimes it's all raw for a while, sometimes all dry for a while, bits of this and bits of that. Only vegies my dogs ever get are raw carrots for chew toys and the odd amount of left overs. And they love a feed of warm porridge in the cold winter mornings. :D So is there any benefit in feeding the egg white. I always thought that if you just fed the yolk, then the dog would get more benefit than if fed it with the white...I know it is a bit more fiddly to seperate the two, but I would have thought that just feeding the yolk would be more nutritious. My dogs wont eat the shell, unless it is put through a food processer.
  5. With raw egg...don't feed the egg white :) OK if it's cooked. As for the person who advocates not feeding raw & kibble.....I think that is probably a lot of hogwash, but I am no rocket scientist so how would I know, except that my two BC's are fed a mixture of raw & kibble & really...the proof is in the pudding  If you can get your guy whole meat ie steaks etc it will be much better for his teeth than mince. IMO
  6. From my behavioural genetics textbook "Hybrid Vigour or Heterosis is the increase in viability and performance when different inbred strains are crossed." When was the book published, and how much credence does the author have? :) Probably more than wikipedia. You'd hope so for a text. But you never know. With cattle, farmers (& I am one) get hybrid vigour by breeding two carefully selected different breeds of cattle together, but they are still the same species of animal ie cattle. Difference between cattle & dogs is that any of the offspring in cattle that don't live up to expectations are culled out. That doesn't happen with dogs. A hybrid in the plant world is two plants of the same species eg. tomatoes being crossed together..the resultant plant becomes a hybrid. When one species of animal or plant is crossed with another completely different species eg. sugar cane & fish, then it is genetically modified (GM)
  7. Almost got the one I want :) Just would like to get it as the two dogs front toes touch on the surface of the water
  8. Has he been swimming the days he has his accidents??
  9. See, you can't be going wrong with the training you are giving him Look at the smile on his face :)
  10. I couldn't put a figure on our training times. We really take the opportunity to train with everything we do with the dogs & it is just all incorporated into fun/feed/swim/agility/doors/gates/walk/recall/frisby etc, time. So as long as he is still keen for more, it's an opportunity too good to miss. Just get good at watching for signs of boredom & mix the training up a bit, so you are not doing the same things over & over. If you mix it up & he is having fun, then whats training & whats play?? Our dogs look upon training time as "wow...we are going to do something really exciting". Get the clicker out & think we are on for a game.
  11. So are border collies, so I would be very careful introducing your pup to your rats
  12. Geeze....my dogs would love to have breakfast with a rat Sorry...couldn't help myself the image was too great
  13. Just wondering if you feed the rats together with the cat. Or is that different because they are rats, not puppies. Do you let your cat in with the rats & expect it to show no aggression towards the rats.
  14. A normal electric fence wont "seriously hurt" a JR, if you mean "will it injure him?" We are on a farm & run normal stock electric fence around it. We run the wire around the top of our house yard & if the dogs touch it once, they wont touch it again, even if it is turned off...they don't forget. I have no trouble getting them to go out through the gate. If I had trouble with them digging under the fence, then I would run a wire just off the ground around the perimeter. Electric fences dont "injure" animals it just gives them a one off shock to tell them not to go there. It's a far better alternative to having them escape & maybe get run over, shot or stolen.
  15. This wouldn't be the same person whose older trialing dog is called Frigate  ?
  16. There is a woman in our agility circuit, who calls one of her dogs "Bucket". Now of course you are not allowed to swear on course, but when she gets frustrated & angry on course & calls out "Bucket", we all know what she means.
  17. I bought one once & was told to remove it's teeth as they are very hard & sharp & may do the dog an injury. It sat in the freezer for a year, then I got it out & made fish broth with it, strained & added the liquid to their meals. They loved it. My dogs will eat small fish providing I remove all sharp bits first.
  18. Working dogs can be exempt from council registration but must be microchipped.
  19. Here are all the home made nutritious treats I make for my dogs...have a look & you might get some ideas Home made treat suggestions
  20. Not sure what state you are in, but Gayle Jarvis from Tenterfield NSW has lovely Australian Cattle Dogs. Her prefix is Heelersridge & can be found here Hellersridge
  21. What can't the dog have on a kidney diet ??
  22. Sorry...I know what you mean, but when I first read it....I thought OMG...your Mum's got the right idea especially if dad now loves his crate.
  23. You both could pass as sisters :) Yeah...I like her videos too.
  24. If I had a flea problem, which I don't then I would be going straight for the Comfortis. The others are a waste of money as far as fleas go. I use Advantix as I have ticks & sometimes I use Frontline Plus.
  25. Have you had a look at it yet Sheena - what did you think? I've been looking at that one myself. What do you think of the contacts one TSD? I have just started it, but so far I am liking it. I got it after reading all the chapters that it contains & it does a bit on Clicker, which really interests me. I have a motion reactive BC & one that gets "stuck" & have done a lot of LAT with her with the clicker, so am keen to learn more.
