  1. Oh Ness.....I don't really know what to say, so it's just :hug:s Things were looking so promising
  2. I just bought a 500 g jar on-line from Natural Pet Store. They have free postage on it ATM & I paid $109.95. My girl weighs between 16 & 17 kilos, so I might give her a scoop & bit. (1 scoop per 15 kilos)
  3. After a week of anti-inflams & a course of anti-biots, my girl seems to have got over her lameness in her front leg I was wondering if rose hip could be given to a dog like mine, as a preventative, because the activities she is involved in could make her prone to lameness. I thought I read a while back, that too much vitamin C could cause more harm than good but can't find the article.
  4. I wonder if you can just feed rose hips to dogs...maybe not as the seeds contained may be toxic. Any ideas Good to see Kenz doing so well, Ness My girl has just started holding up her front foot after resting but hope its not what Kenz has. Bindi gets better with exercise. Vet has her on anti-flams & anti-biots for a week.
  5. With my older girl I taught 2o2o standing & she makes the contact 100% of the time in trials, though if I want her to keep running I just release her as she hits the contact. Problem with this is that it slows her down as she doesn't know what I am going to call for, but at least she gets her contacts. The young guy, we have taught running contacts with the "box" method & he gets his Aframe contacts 100 % but is not so good on the others so we think we might teach him 2o2o on all other contacts except the Aframe. I would never call them back to redo a contact in a trial.
  6. I have a couple of these things, but I think they are more for safety, so others can see your dog in the dark, rather than showing your dog where to walk.
  7. I know nothing about entering ET, but I would assume to enter any dog trial you would have to first join Dogs Victoria. Sorry just nioticed you are in SA,o it would be Dogs SA
  8. Just a thought - when you take him back does he have to enter the weaves at the same speed he would have had to if he didn't run past them? Is it easier to do it without speed built in? Definately easier without speed...at home & in training we can get him to collect, but in a trial, he is just so excited he just runs straight past as if he is impatient to get to the next obstacle. Obviously, he is only young & a novice dog & when he matures a bit things will improve, we just don't want to do anything which will either dampen his enthusiasm for the game or inadvertently reward him for being silly.
  9. So that's good to know. I am assuming that an xray would also show up if she has a grass seed working it's way up her leg. I have been picking a few of that type off her lately. I just don't want her guessing that it is arthritis & treating it as such when it is something different.
  10. My 5 yo BC girl has started favouring her front left foot when she gets up from rest. After a couple of minutes she seems fine & back to her normal self & it's not until she rests again that she holds it up or wont put any weight on it. I have had her to a vet, not my vet, as he was the only one I could get to see. He gave her a thorough investigation. Too thorough for my liking & he really pushed her buttons till she would snap at him I was thinking that it might be either a sprain, or a grass seed worked its way into her foot, infected nail or arthritis. All he could conclude was that one toe was a little more pinker than the others & when he squeezed it very hard she snapped at him (well so would I). He has her on AB & AI for a week then if she is no better to get an xray done of her foot. To take an xray of her foot does she have to have a GA & if that shows up nothing how do they conclude that it is arthritis....do they take a blood test We have had to leave her for a week with a neighbour (with full instructions), but when I get home, if she is no better, I will take her to my normal vet & hope that he doesn't put her through hell again. Sometimes, I feel, the manipulation they do to find out where the pain is, does more harm than good....I know it's the only way to find the pain, but I think they sometimes go a little overboard.
  11. We didn't get to do start lines at club training tonight...but he did AWESOME weaves. Ran past the first time, took him back & he was right from there on.
  12. Some good food for thought there, Vickie :) My OH handles him most of the time at trials & he is reluctant to make him do the weaves again & lets him run on. He handles better for me, probably because I am less inclined to allow him to be naughty (cause thats what I think he is doing). I bring him back for another go & he does them better but still pops out. I don't do it again as I think I am taking up precious judges time. We have both sets of poles at home & of course the ones we use at training nights are the competition ones. He does lovely running A-frames but will often run straight past the dog walk (OH lets him continue, I bring him back) At training tonight I will try what you did, get him hyped up then if he stuffs up, put him straight back on the lead. I must add also, that the weave poles are one of his favourite obstacles in training...so hopefully that might jolt his puppy brain into action  ETA...his start lines in trials are not as good as they used to be. He creeps forward, never breaks, just creeps forward. We have been doing a lot of work on those at home, so tonight at training, so as not to set him up to fail, I will hold him gently by the collar while his handler leads out, then gradually fade my presence. He is doing well in the Jumping & got his Novice Title :)
  13. The generic Frontline Plus contaians exactly the same ingredients as Frontline Plus, so I can't see that as being dangerous to use. This is a copy & paste of comparing the two :) Just a shame it's not available in Australia yet. Can't wait for a generic brand of Advantix & one of Proban would be good. Compare: Generic Frontline Plus Vs. Frontline Plus Features Generic Frontline Plus Fipronil 10% 10% Methoprene 9% 9% Inert Ingredients 81% 81% Kills Fleas, ticks and their Eggs and Larvae Safe for pregnant & lactating pets Waterproof. Spot-on Once-a-month
  14. Yes I would have thought it was a reasonable question too Sheena. On this forum it seems to depend on who asks it though :) Seen other - milder - claims on other threads receive very aggressive demands for all sorts of documented "proof". I am genuinely interested in further information regarding this - as most would be. Though apparently if you have not discovered it for yourself you are not allowed to ask about it :D Thing is if I had discovered it (the information on generics being dangerous) then I wouldn't have to ask :) Maybe who made that comment could help us out a little & point us in the right direction...a link...maybe. Obviously the chemists & my family doctor don't know about it, & that's a bit of a worry
  15. I run both my dogs without collars - always have and always will purely for safety reasons. They both get heavily rewarded for putting their collars on so I don't have problems with them running off. Regarding the t-shirt, I agree with the club's policy - not only safety but also freedom of movement. Is it that your little dog feels the cold? If so I would be doing a really good warm up with him, whip off the shirt, run the course, reward and then put his t-shirt back on. My Dally really feels the cold and this routine works very well for him - it's become his pre-trial routine (whether a cool or warm coat) so he knows when to switch on. In a proper trial the judge will not allow you to have anything but a flat collar (ANKC) with absolutely nothing dangling from it at all. ADAA competition, you have to remove the collar all together. We have a Chinese Hairless in our club & I have seen him run trials with his jacket on, but it depends on the judge & the weather conditions.
  16. The chemists are always trying to subsitute my medications for generic brands...so I am interested in this claim too, that generics are dangerous
  17. Clean Run have free shipping on their "Self Warming Crate Pads" ATM.....details HERE
  18. Yeah...I wish ANKC had NFC. Unfortunately the only ADAA event we get to go to is the Grand Prix once a year. One of the ANKC judges we had last weekend was a real sour puss & everytime we looked like re-attempting the weaves, she got up us With my older dog who has just gone up into Masters & shuts down easily, this judge set a really hard jumping course for the first run of the day. I left her standing there, open mouthed, when I took my girl in & just did a really fun run around the outside jumps with a couple of loops & tunnels in between. I didn't even stop to hear what she was saying to me, but I can imagine she thought I was a real goose. but my dog had fun :) I am going to do more of that in future. If I pay good money for the chance to run, then I should be able to do what I like within the set time If we are going to get DQ'd anyway why not make it a FUN DQ.
  19. If they really love their dogs, then I would be going down the track of having puppies can be dangerous for the bitch if something goes wrong & they could lose their beloved pet. How hard it is to find good homes for the pups & the reason why so many end up in rescue & get PTS. Maybe encourage them to go to some dog shows & see how it is done properly. Maybe it's the parents that need educating, not the kids. :)
  20. The weave poles are the ONLY thing I would consider redoing in a trial...anything else & I would just keep running as even the slightest hesitation can make them shut down or get frustrated & 9/10 it would be handler error anyway. Strangely, we set up practise weave poles amongst all the action at trials & he does them perfectly...little bugger  Its a very common problem :) just interested to know how others handle it...pop them back into the weaves or continue on ??
  21. Ok...take the case of a novice dog with heaps of drive & enthusiasm & his biggest reward is to be able to continue the course. At home he is 99% proofed with the weaves at lots of angles, distractions etc. At group training he is about 80% with same. But put him in a trial & he will just run past the weaves as if he hasn't seen them. If he does enter, its hit a few, miss a few, then get on with the next obstacle. Question is, what would you do in this situation. I tend towards making him come back & try the weaves again, probably only once, as I feel he is self rewarding by letting him continue the course. But then I think I might be damaging his enthusiasm (hard to imagine) by doing this & eventually it might lead to him shutting down on the weaves & running them slow. I always made my first dog come back & do them again & now she is a slow as a wet weekend in the weaves (only at trials) & wonder if I have caused it. Understandably I don't want to make the same mistake again,(if indeed it was) but can't help thinking that to let him disregard the weaves in trials could be self rewarding. I would be interested to know what others do as it is not uncommon, but unfortunately because it only happens at trials it is difficult to train otherwise...& of course no training allowed in the ring.
  22. My dogs swim twice a day, every day & have no trouble with the Advantix. I keep them out of the water for 48 hours after I apply it though. They do get the odd grass tick & they have to be done no later than every 14 days. Cant wait for a generic version to become available in Australia. I am sure what the manufacturers charge for Advantix or Frontlin Plus is not reflective of production cost. I know they have high research & development costs but these sort of things have been around for decades for cattle etc.
  23. Another one taken after a big fog this morning...the air was so clear. I like this one because it has the cows in it which are very peacefully grazing in contrast to the mad dog smashing into the water
