For those who are interested, Clean Run have a new puppy DVD out on Free Shipping. I have ordered mine after I heard good things. It is not listed on their Free Shipping page, you have to follow the link to find it Pup 2 Perfection It is different to the Foundation Fundamentals DVD set. Mine hasn't arrived yet, so I am only going by recommendation :)

It helps their grip in agility, holding bones, playing with toys etc :)

Some people use potato flour, but I havn't used it myself. Last time I used PP Wonder wash, I think I may have used too much as she just looked dirtier & had a bit of a blue tinge. I find if my dogs swim in fresh water, they will get a smell, but if they then have a swim in the family pool directly after, they don't smell. My guess is the chlorine in the pool (it is a salt water one) kills off the bacteria. I don't rinse it out as I have untreated tank water. This is an everyday ritual & they don't itch & have lovely coats :)

I rang them up & yes, you do give the dogs twice the human amount. Something to do with them absorbing the Vit C much quicker & because they are more active. So she said it is far more cost effective to buy the Canine Version 500g rather than give the human one. ETA...humans can use the canine powder as well...according to their facebook page.

To start with...to make Greek yogurt, you add 1/3 full cream milk powder to each litre milk. Then after it's set you strain the whey out of it. If you strain it for a couple of days, you can make Labnah from it, which is like a cream cheese. If you go to that link I put up earlier in the thread, they have the directions for making it along with goats milk or coconut yogurt. I just use powdered milk for the whole lot & it works out fine....a lot cheaper too & I get my culture etc from Green Living Australia.
-
Just remember not to wast the whey...it has as much goodness as the yogurt :)
-
To get my Greek Style yogurt, I hang it over a basin in cheesecloth overnight. The longer you hang it the thicker it gets. The dogs get the whey & I eat the yogurt :) Don't add anything to it until it is set. I started a thread in the Off Topic a while ago on yogurt making etc...here is the link if you can access it Here

Sorry Ness, it wasn't the manager but the managing director that wants me to phone him. His name is Colin & I will give him a ring tomorrow.

Which Food Rewards To Use?
sheena replied to BrigadoonRose's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
A good article here for homemade treat ideas & how to use them Homemade Treats even if I did write it myself :) -
I can't help feeling that people who are giving their dogs the human one may be grossly overdosing their dogs. Why would you start your 18 kilo dog off on 20 capsules a day, twice the amount for a grown human It just doesn't sound right. When my friend with the Koolie made enquiries she was told 4 capsules a day to start then just two for maintenance. I have emailed the company & they emailed back wanting me to ring them & talk to the manager personally. I have been out all day & havn't got around to it yet, but will let you know what he says, because something just doesn't add up, especially when dogs manufacture their own Vit. C.

Why don't you just buy a small bag to try or even ask them to send you a sample for free :)

Comfortis is for fleas only. It is not a combined product. There have been several published studies on the efficacy of Spinosad (active ingredient in Comfortis) against a specific genus of cattle tick but it is nowhere close to claiming spinosad as a tick prevention product for dogs. All I know is the box says tick and flea and she hasn't had seed ticks since You say it is from Comfortis...is it called "Comfortis" or has another name?? Overseas they have been experimenting with using spinosad for ticks, but I believe the dosage is three times what is in Comfortis.

I purchased in a shop. Also got some free rosehip oil! Stating dose for a human is 10 capsules. Got to say that the amount you have to swallow is putting me off a bit! I couldn't swallow that many capsules a day. Why don't you get the powder & sprinkle two scoops on your cornflakes ??
-
Yep...I have sent them an email. Thanks Ness :) Interested in their reply as my friend with the Koolie was told 2 capsules a day MD. Her dog is another success story, as just 2 to 3 months ago, after a really bad shoulder injury, she thought her dog would never, ever compete in agility again. Last weekend was her first trial back & she was just as ferrel as ever  & no after effects of competing
-
Thanks Ness...I just checked it out. It seems very excessive though for a 18 kilo dog to give it double (10 capsules) for MD than what an 80 kilo person would have (5 capsules) daily. I need to make sure, because if I give my dog more than 1 & 1/2 scoops a day, she gets the runs.
-
If the human one & the dog one are exactly the same, then according to the instructions as per the canine version, for a 15 to 30 kg dog the initial daily doseage of 4 X 2.5g scoops, would equal 20 human capsules & then 10 human capsules (2 scoops) daily as the maintenance dose. I only have the dog one in front of me, as I havn't recieved my human one yet, that is why I am asking. The canine version contains 1000g/per kg rosehip powder. powder. A friend who has her Koolie now on a maintenance dose, gives her 2 capsules a day. Thanks Jules for the link. I just had a peek & the 250 capsules now are $44.99 plus $8.95 postage & the powder is $39.99 plus $8.95 postage.

I am almost out of the first batch of Rose Hip Vital Canine that I bought & I am going to try the human form of powder this time instead, as someone has told me it works out a lot cheaper & they suspect the canine one may have artificial colouring in it. I think I got it at a good price of $46.95 including postage form this Online Chemist for 125grams. They also have the capsules...250 for the same price including postage. Has anybody made the conversion of the canine to the human. At present I am feeding 1&1/2 scoops of the canine powder. Is the human one more concentrated than the canine

Mine have just gone through half a bag (10kg) of Fish & Potato & loved it, but they love all three. :) I have just ordered another full bag. It is sweet potato, by the way, if you look at the ingredients list on the BH website. I made enquiries with them & the first lot of bags they had printed had a typo error in the ingredients list, that just listed it as "potato", where in fact it is "sweet" potato.

I wonder if the ones that don't smell have been treated with something

This worried me a lot when we got our new border collie pup. We only have two sets of 4 steps outside the house but he has always thought he was Superman & would/does jump from the top to land at the bottom. So we put some thick rubber mats to cushion his jump. Not sure what you could do with your slippery floors, but I thought I read somewhere that there is something you can spray on their feet to make them grip better or you could put baby socks on him with those grippy things on the soles, but he would probably eat them. Trimming the hair from the pads does help some. ETA Found it Firm Grip Spray but can't be shipped from America, but maybe something similar in OZ :) A product available in Oz Firm Grip Spray

I was talking to someone on the weekend whose dogs do a lovely recall drop & she taught it with a clicker & a target
-
Its not to use while doing normal agility, but would be very handy for when running Strategic Pairs, but mainly want to teach it so I can get her to drop to stop her chasing something, treading on a snake, running in front of a car...lots of things which I hope never happen, but it would be good to have the command perfected, just in case. It makes it a lot easier when running Pairs, if you can get your dog to drop on course.
-
Not a bad idea. I might introduce a "stop" command. Using wait or stay while she is running might dissolve those commands which she already knows as certain behaviours. Though with the young guy, when he is approaching the table in Agility, we have to give the stay command before he hits the table, otherwise he flies over the top.

I'm going to call my next pup "Linda"...don't ask me why I have no idea
