  1. I can no longer get onto the Australian Canine Sports & Training Centre Web Page
  2. For anyone who may be interested here is a "copy & paste" :) Delta Society is pleased to offer a very special Weekend Seminar on dog behaviour and training in Grafton: 23rd – 24th November 2013 Designed for the pet industry and dog owners, this Weekend Seminar is widely regarded as the best of its kind in Australia. Whether you are a dog owner wanting to learn the basics about how to train your dog, a vet or vet nurse who wants to expand their knowledge of animal behaviour, or someone who wants to take the first step towards a career as a successful dog trainer, this fascinating course is for you. In one weekend, you can learn all about animal behaviour, and the benefits and methods of dog training using only scientifically proven, positive, reward based techniques. Normally only offered twice annually in Sydney and Melbourne, this is a rare opportunity to attend one of Delta’s highly regarded Weekend Seminars closer to home. Presented by the inimitable Veterinary Behaviourist Dr Gaille Perry, and renowned animal trainer Kerrie Haynes-Lovell, it is one weekend not to be missed. We have enclosed several copies of the brochure containing more information about the course, including how to register. Please feel free to share these brochures among your staff and customers. 3. Just reading that recipe...I thought...geeze that's a very hot oven to put something in for 3 hours...could burn the house down. Please note that it is in Faranhite (sp??) & has to be converted to Celcius (sp??)
  4. If it were me, I'd be working stopping his barking before I attended another group lesson, as it is not fair on all the other handlers & their dogs. Lot's of good ideas on here from DOL's or even ask the instructors at your club for some things to work on at home in a not so distracting environment, getting him to focus on you, then gradually introduce distractions...dogs at a distance etc etc. There is a very good DVD/book available called "controlled Unleashed..The Puppy Program" by Leslie McDevitt. Also available in EPUB & Kindle Format from Clean Run. Clean Run
  5. Sorry if this sounds daft but would a human probiotic be OK or does he need a dog specific one? He gets cooked chicken for training treats as well as the odd bit of banana. Sometimes a small piece of dried liver but not a huge amount. All things I've given him since he was 8 weeks old so I doubt they would be the culprits. I try to introduce new things slowly, the breeder specified in her care sheet that this was around the age where we could start slowly introducing new things to the diet which is what I've been doing... All I can add to what others have said, is to be careful with the dried liver. When my girl was a pup, she couldn't handle it at all & it would give her the most terrible runs. Doesn't worry her at all now, but I tend to give her home made treats which include boiled or baked liver cut small...dried liver I hardly ever use.
  6. I have two Hurta jackets for sale in the Members Marketplace Hurta Jackets Link. You couldn't get much better that those :)
  7. One metric cup of BH at night & 1/2 a turkey neck in the mornings. They might get another very small amount as we use it for their nightly trick training sessions in the loungeroom. :)
  8. I don't know about Eukanuba as I have never fed it, but I have been feeding my two on BH for three years. They have had all three varieties & are currently on the Fish & Sweet Potato. They did well on the Lamb but understandably lost a bit of weight on the Chicken because it is lower fat & they are high energy dogs. ETA My guys get one cup of BH at night & in the morning they get 1/2 a turkey neck.
  9. This just came up on my Facebook & I found it an interesting concept & fairly simple to make Home Made Clicker Board
  10. Thanks guys, I think you have talked me into it :)
  11. Yes..it is the two day intro one :) Not sure if I would go on & do the rest..not just the cost of the course, but accommodation & all that stuff. Maybe if I were younger & had more years left in me to put it to good use.
  12. I am thinking of going to a Delta Society Seminar on Animal behaviour with Dr. Gaille Perry & Kerrie Haynes-Lovell. Can anyone enlighten me as to if you have been to any & how did you find them ?? Thanks, :)
  13. Cute Puppy :) I have two types of clickers...one is adjustable & the other just clicks. Make sure you have put lots of value on the clicker so that the dog understands & if it is too loud, hold it behind your back or muffle it in your pocket, but obviously don't hold it too close to puppy's ear. I start off with a new dog, putting value on the clicker by throwing a treat & as soon as the pup reached it & is about to pick it up, click & allow the pup to get the treat. A few short sessions of this & when I am certain he knows what it is all about...I put a cardboard box out & then click & throw the treat for every single indication of interaction with the box...its called "The 100 & one things to do with a box" game. He will soon catch on & start offering behaviours to get the click, so you can start to wait for a bit more interaction before clicking. Have fun
  14. Is he on Mains register with the ANKC & the bitch is on Mains Register with the ANKC ??
  15. My two guys like those oval, bath tub type plastic beds with mattresses in them, but given the choice they much prefer their crates for sleeping in at night. I think they must feel safe & secure in them. :)
  16. She's done a couple of trials already, but seems to think trials are for stepping it up a notch, so I haven't managed to keep up and hang onto her yet . I've just entered another few, so hopefully I will be able to get a little more control on her this time round . Are you at the GP Sheena? Kavik? If so, good luck to both of you No, we are not going this year. Still trying to get baby Cricket's "flying contacts" under control. In training he's such an angel, but gets a bit over excited at trials.
  17. I'm not saying much :) but I am loving everyones videos. Can't wait to see Fly in action, Vickie :)
  18. Agree...if you are teaching him something new then start off in a distraction free environment & then gradually introduce the distractions at a distance. If you are teaching him the recall, then have him on a lead close to you, call his name & AS SOON AS HE TURNS TO YOU (that's the important bit), click & throw him a treat. Then gradually increase your distance from him (on lead) & repeat. But the important thing to mark is his turning towards you. When you have this 90%, then you can wait till he is moving towards you before you click & throw the treat for him, then extend it to actually getting back to you before you click, then maybe you might like a sit as well. I would throw the treat away from me so he has to go get it, then before he turns, you call his name etc etc. Have fun :) ETA...if he hasn't yet responded well to his name...play the "In Yer Face" game. Have him sit facing you & a handful of yummy treats...in rapid succession call his name & pop him a treat.
  19. If you want to know more about clicker training, then ask away. Lots of us here are quite passionate about it & only too willing to help a newbie discover the fun of clicker training with their dog :)
  20. Where-abouts is the ACTC ?? for those of us who don't know ???
  21. Black Hawk don't sell it any more, but I have a box full of the conditioner & shampoos. My very patriotic son-in-law that sells the Black Hawk, wouldn't sell the shampoos because it wasn't Australian  so I got stuck with it. Not to worry, it is going to make lovely prizes for our next Agility Trial :)
  22. Yes I did & she contacted me via Facebook comments quite a few times, following, trying to convince me to buy it & pay that postage, even suggesting I buy two bottles to even out the postage. But seeing that one of my dogs hasn't had a bath for over two years & the girl only gets one when she rolls in something, I didn't think it was worth it. I have started using Black Hawk's YU Natural Herbs Leave In Conditioner, diluted & just spraying them with that before I brush & they come up nice :)
  23. I would have liked to tick, that I grew up with border collies, but that is not the case. I grew up on a sheep property, where Dad had all sorts of mixed breeds to help with the sheep. I didn't get into BC's until 22 years ago when my OH bought me one for my 40th birthday. From then on I/we were hooked & wouldn't have any other breed. I keep saying that one day, I wouldn't mind getting a small breed like a Pap, or a Border Terrier, but I would be worried of losing them to the wedge tailed eagles.
