You might find that one spot behind the dog's neck is not enough for a medium to large dog. The stuff works by spreading itself over the whole dog, so this is not going to stop your kids coming in contact with it after it has dried. I put it on at night just before the dogs go to bed, so that by morning it has dried & started to do its thing. My theory about distributing it along the whole spine, is that the stuff will cover the dog quicker. I dont use any more than what is recommended, just spread it out more. You must be good at searching dogs with a lot of hair to be able to go a month...either that or it was good luck, cause I find that just one day late around here is a cause for concern. I know of dogs that have gone down, when their advantix was just one day late

Have you ever had a go at clicker training :)

I live in Northern NSW & the tick season lasts all year though I find it slackens off a bit over winter. I use Advantix fortnightly. My dogs swim everyday, but when it is time for their Advantix, I keep them dry for 24 hours before & for 48 hours afterwards. Also I apply the liquid in as many spots as I can all the way down their spine from behind their ears to the base of their tail, parting the hair so as to get as much as possible on their skin. Applying it this way, I havn't seen a tick for many months. I hate it too & if I had a small smooth haired dog then I would give the natural remedies a go, & do more thorough searches. I did buy some Skudo's at one stage & I think they worked but I had to take them off everytime they went swimming which became a real hassle

Which Abba song are you doing?? I am doing Honey, Honey & intend it to be a "take-off" of Abba due to the differences between her & me  I have a pink wig that I bought at the Easter show, some tights & hope to get an Abba type blouse. I also have a long blond wig, but I like the pink one better. If I wanted to imitate the long white boots, I could buy a pair of those "skin" things that runners use on their arms & legs. I was thinking along the lines of soft type shoes, like ballet flats as I am terrified of stepping on my poor dogs paws. I'll match Bindi up with the pink wig. :) Please don't ask me what competition I am going in as I havn't a clue & probably never will...at present it's just for fun. :D make a video, then go back to the drawing board. There's a double comp in Brissie in September ;) ;) Thanks..it's a bit too early for me. I have so much agility on between now & then, it's not funny. I was excited about the one in the schedule for Grafton on the 30th November, but Mandy says it is a misprint -
I am not sure what the protein/fat is, but my high performance border collies get not quite a cup of Black Hawk, either fish or lamb,at night & half a turkey neck in the morning. They have heaps of energy. ETA...I just looked it up & it is Lamb 25:14 & Fish 22:14

Are you going white jumpsuit? Or mini dress with a cat on it? Seriously though, part of the fun is wearing things you would never normally wear and having fun with it :) This is probably the most sparkles I've worn in my life... Oh yes.....the mini skirt goes with the long white boots :) -

I love your costume....very clever lady. Thanks for the hint about costume worth 6 points. That has really thrown up a challenge to me...Hard to imagine an overweight, over 60, grey haired lady dressing up as Agnetha from Abba Now I wish I hadn't thrown out those above the knee patent leather white boots I owned 45 years ago. -

The Filtabac is a horse product so probably go to a horse shop. I bought mine on-line. It is also a sunscreen & is very thick like zinc cream. Just get a small tube because you wont need much. -
I kill or very greatly reduce my wandering jew using roundup. Sometimes if it is very thick I will rake it up first with a steel rake, then spray. You will have to wait for it to show again & repeat spraying & after that just need to walk around & spot spray. I put a dye in my sprayer so I can easily tell where I have been. You need to spray it when it is in a good growth period. If it is struggling, then the roundup wont work as well. I just walk around the garden occasionally now & spot spray it & other weeds. I lock the dogs up till it drys. I have never heard of mowing down low to get rid of it...I would be more inclined to think that this would promote growth as it spreads from underground runners.

Don't you have a 10 - 14 day cooling off period when you sign any contract

You can use iTunes to save it as an mp3, then it will work. I find if I right click on a song in iTunes there is an option to "Create MP3 Version". If that doesn't work, there are other methods e.g. here are some instructions link OK...so I now have my tune & I have played around with it & really have no clue as to what I am doing. If I want to take out a section in the middle...what do I do ??? -

I have just spent the last two hours dealing with Itunes. I have downloaded the program & set up my account but it still wont let me in to purchase the tune I want -
I get mine from Budget Pet Products as well. Postage is free for small items like that :)

Love the ribbon SM, but that would be lost on my hairy girl. Does everyone always put something on their dog??? I would imagine with a border collie it would be pretty much lost in the fur & could be a distraction. -
When I am teaching 2 x 2, I like to put down a line which is usually the ribbon base of my "stick in the ground" weavepoles, but you could also use a rope pegged down. It gives you a line to work on & I place the target where the 12th pole would normally be. People tend to forget that there is more to a set of weave poles than just the poles...there is the base running along the ground, which if the dog keeps his head lowered, as he should, he will be following this as well as bending through the poles. By placing the target at the position where the 12th pole should be, teaches your dog to continue running straight ahead instead of looking back at you in anticipation of you throwing a treat or a toy. If the dog learns to look back at you, he will more than likely pop out of the poles when you get more than a few poles up. When you are getting close to weaving with 12 poles then move the target further away, even to the other side of a jump or tunnel. You don't have to have a treat on the target either, if you have taught your dog to target an object. Sometimes have a treat on the target & other times run in & put the treat on the target. By using a target your dog will learn to run through till he finishes the weaves no matter what you as a handler are doing & amid other distractions. :)

I'm looking for a 60's/70's style blouse....you know with the bell bottom sleeves :) It's a shame we have all thrown out our old hippie clothes -
That's why I use a clicker to shape a behavior which is always going to be followed by a treat & not the "yes" word. I reserve the "yes" word for indicating that they have taken the right tunnel, or obstacle or weave pole entrance & "yes" to them means "I have chosen the right obstacle so I will keep going". On the other hand, if I clicked when they entered the right tunnel etc, they would pull out & come back to me for a treat. Often I will click when they have finished an obstacle if they have done it well & that lets them know I am happy with them & they are keen to do it again. If you use the "yes" word instead of a clicker when shaping a behavior you will run into the same problem that Huski has outlined above. And I know we have had this discussion before, so I don't want to sidetrack the thread with another one on clicker V yes :)
