  1. Our young boy Cricket, is so good at parking, that last week at agility training, I almost forgot to put him in the car. All the equipment had been put away & there he was still out in the middle of the paddock, waiting to be "un-parked". It wasn't so much if people "park" their dogs, I was more wondering about this (the video) method of teaching it. I think that this "parking" is different to when we teach our dog to lie down on a mat till released, if you know what I mean.
  2. Out of interest...when does the next group start...I couldn't find anything on their site, except that one started on 19th Nov.
  3. Bindi in her new Ruffwear Front Attach Harness.....I went for the Small size, but there is no adjustment left. If I bought one for my boy, I would get the Medium size. Love it though
  4. Did anybody catch Middle Class Bogans on ABC last night? It had the most gorgeous greyhound in it :) He was the star of the show. I wonder if he was trained by Kelly Gill ??
  5. Bumping this up as it is for a good cause, & $60 is not a lot to be coached by some of the best agility people in Australia :)
  6. your daughter may as well take the pup at 8 weeks and vaccinate it herself and take the usual precautions, the pup has nothing to gain from being vaccinated and returned to the mother. If the person who bred the pup doesn't care enough to vaccinate them, then it's unlikely they will be aware of parvo and the steps to take to prevent the pups from being exposed to it. I agree about the person who owns the pups doesn't have a clue, but I don't need to be reminded..I am already converted :) My daughter can't take him at 8 weeks for personal reasons, so I think she is going to pick up the pup tomorrow (he will be 7 weeks old) & take him to the vet herself, then return him to his mother for another couple of weeks. He is coming from a farm (not a puppy farm) where the woman's two dogs just happened to get together So, yes this lady has no idea about breeding pups & I hope she now gets her dogs desexed so it doesn't happen again.
  7. I have been giving my older girl RHV now for the past 18 months....she is 7, purely as a preventative. Both mine get dried sardines on their dinner every second night & on the other night they get an egg.
  8. Yes that's what I was thinking...it's so hard to talk to them when dogs are jumping around, barking & taking their attention away from instruction.
  9. I'm instructing a Beginners Agility Class next year & I thought this might be a good lesson number one....teach your dog to park. I guess the first time I saw this done was when I took my girl to puppy school 7 years ago, & the trainer showed us to "park" our pups by getting them to lie down & then putting your foot on the lead right up near the collar I thought that was rather cruel (along with other things she showed us). But this method seems different as the dog can move around (restricted) if it likes till it settles. When I first saw the video, I thought that maybe a treat here & there for good behaviour, could be in order, but when I think about it...giving the dog a treat would involve reconnecting with the dog & that's not what you want, till you have finished "parking"...then it's step off the lead & re-engage with your dog..party, party :) Would you put a cue word on it
  10. Yes...exactly...he wants to be with his pack..poor little guy Why does he need to sleep outside at all
  11. I have already lectured my daughter about getting a pup from an "Oops litter", so I don't need any more lectures...you would only be preaching to the converted :D At least I have talked her into waiting till the pup is 8 weeks before they pick him up. It's a small mixed breed pup. He is microchipped but not vaccinated. It will be more closer to nine weeks when she picks him up, so I am wondering if she should go & personally take the pup for his vaccination now then take him back to his mum, or would it be OK to wait till she picks him up at almost 9 weeks. She understands that pup need to be kept isolated for some time till after he has his second vact.
  12. I am reading a DWD manual & they keep referring to the importance of "Parking" your dog, when you want to disconnect from him or while waiting for some activity. Teaching your dog to switch off on cue & relax. They give this video as the reference for teaching your dog to "Park". I am of two minds on how the method in this video fits in with positive reinforcement. What do you think ??? I did try it with my own dog last night & it seemed to work, after ignoring her scratching my leg, & sitting on my foot, she just laid down & went to sleep.
  13. If I'm visiting my Mum in suburbia where our twice daily walk is the only exercise the dogs will get (cause she has a tiny backyard), then I will walk in the rain. I have raincoats for them. I wont go out in a thunderstorm though, as thunder freaks ME out...I have had too many close calls If it's too wet here on the farm for the afternoon walk, then they get some extra mental stimulation inside. Even just a small walk out into the paddock, so they can sniff & smell & mark & poo, & they are quite satisfied. :)
  14. Oh I am so glad to hear the belly band is working for you It's been such a dogsend, with all this hot weather, where he is inside most of the day. He hasn't wet it once.
  15. I have this problem with my desexed boy. It doesn't happen often, but enough, that I can't relax when he is inside. I got him a belly band a couple of weeks ago & put a pad inside it. I am very happy to report, that he hasn't tried to lift his leg once inside since I got him the band I do take it off him & put him outside every couple of hours....but he hasn't wet it once. :)

  17. My guys have no trouble with the Advantix as far as hot spots go. Probably because I distribute it right down their back from behind the ears to the base of the tail, making sure it is in contact with the skin. So it is not all going on the one spot. From what I have read, & it makes sense, that if you are going to shampoo your dog then use a soap free shampoo. Both the Fido ones I have are soap free, but only my girl ever gets a shampoo (little tart). My boy had his last shampoo three years ago, so I imagine he has a good build up of oil on his skin which helps with the Advantix, even though he is swimming almost every day.
  18. I've ordered a pink one for Bindi in size Small :)
  19. Not even Advantix stops the ticks attaching...even though the product says differently
  20. Looks good there is always heaps of movement to the side with the other traditional front harnesses as well :) I think I will go the Small then & in hot pink.
  21. Yeah...my girl has always been a Medium in everything I buy, but this shows up as being small, so I will be interested for an update :)
  22. I noticed K9 Pro have them, but not in red....think I might order mine from them...always get good service & like to support a DOL'er :) They have them in a dark pink. I planned on getting it from k9pro too, but they didn't have the colour and size I need... And I'm too impatient for a back order, haha. The pink is gorgeous! I'm going for orange :) Which size were you after? I just had a shipment arrive this afternoon and you will be able to use the DOL discount too (if you haven't already ordered). Huski....I just measured my girl & she measured 64-65 which is a small. Does this sound right, as she is usually a medium
