  1. I'm going to have to get some of this stuff & try it. I wonder if my local produce stores might stock it. Someone earlier said that Petstock have it. I will do some ringing arouond.
  2. I couldn't find much on it....would you care to share the link you found???
  3. I wonder if it would be just as effective if you spread it with a fertilizer spreader. Maybe mix it with some sand.
  4. Thanks...& how does your OH put it down the holes ???
  5. After many years, we finally have a lawn , but now the ants are moving in & making a huge mess. Does anybody know of a pet safe treatment for ants in lawns....I was thinking of whether Diantomaceous Earth is any good It's a huge area.
  6. I've just ordered some. I still have some Advantix to use up so I will try my boy on the Nexgard first.
  7. People who say they don't believe in internal dosing .....what is the difference between internal dosing for ticks & fleas & internal dosing for heartworm & internal parasites. They are both poisons !! I have read where it has far less reactions than Comfortis.
  8. If it is dried food then it will be made up of meal, which is meat that has been dried & is more concentrated than fresh meat.
  9. Thanks guys...I had a feeling that putting something on their feet might be best. They may only have to do it a few times :)
  10. He's 12 weeks old & his breeding????.....about 5% SWF & 95% black devil. It's my daughters pup & I think she has tried squirting him with water when he does it, but he thinks that is just so much fun  Good idea...wear shoes & maybe spray the shoes with bitter spray or vicks.
  11. I feel a bit silly asking this question  but it's a long time since I had pup. My daughter's little devil is nipping toes & ankles. I thought about the idea of putting holding down his tongue with the thumb, but this is no good when he is nipping the other end.
  12. Run free, dear Ness. You were a wonderful dog & I have a photo of you when Kenz was just little. It is such a lovely photo of the two of you standing in a pool of water with wonderful reflections. I was new to DOL back then & I feel like I have known you personally even though we never met. Hugs to your mum, Ness & run free with the wind in your ears
  13. Very interesting...thanks. The only dog I have known personally, was a rescue BC being used on a farm & it used to collapse. That was many years ago & the owners thought it had a bad heart but I doubt if BCC was known of back then. So the offspring from a bitch from Europe & raised in a hot humid climate, would fare no worse than a locally bred dog?? The only thing I can think of is maybe the length & thickness of the coat I guess, what I am trying to say, is ...is tolerance to heat & humidity a genetic thing. I know it can be in cattle.
  14. Very worrying for you & it must have come as a big shock to you, or did you suspect something wasn't quite right earlier on ??
  15. I still have a whole packet of Advantix to get through, but am thinking of getting some of this & trying it out on my boy, as he in swimming several times a day.
  16. I would imagine, that if the dog starts to go hungry it is more likely to go & nibble on something in it's environment that it maybe shouldn't. My dogs get fed twice a day plus training treats, & they never nibble on things in the garden except grass & mulberries....
  17. It was a big decision for her to make on the advice of the vet..to re-home her BC from Queensland to Tassie...so I hope it works out for the poor dog Is it something that shows up early in a dog's life or can it rear it's ugly head at any time. I have to be very vigilent with my girl, especially on hot days, as she always has to hold something in her mouth, when she is playing, rounding something up or fighting a thunder storm. It can either be something big like a toy or if that's not around, she will hold a leaf or a blade of grass in her mouth, just like a cigarette paper. She does this even when she is swimming. If I let her go on too long, she starts to salvinate something dreadful & gets very very thirsty.
  18. Hope she is OK this morning. If I had my dogs up at the Gold Coast, I would be too worried about cane toads to let my dogs sleep outside Maybe you could mention cane toads to your mum & she might let you sleep your dogs inside in crates.
  19. Mine get their main meal at night & their raw meaty bones in the morning...so I guess, they are being fed twice a day. I think I would feel odd, not giving them something in the morning & then expecting them to eat a great big meal at night before bed
  20. Some one I know has just had to rehome her Border Collie from Queensland to Tasmania as the vet suggested that the hot climate was affecting her, with what sounds like Border Collie Collapse & that she would do much better in a cooler climate. A very hard decision to make. I am not sure what state she was bred in, but that raises my question. If looking for a BC pup, would it be wise to choose from a climate similar to your own, as well as looking into seeing if BCC is present in the breeding. ie...is it genetic ?? IF climate can have an affect on things like BCC, how risky would it be to get a pup from a bitch that was bred overseas in Europe...coming from the snow to NSW. And NO ....I am not looking to getting another pup ATM, but just doing my homework for maybe a few years down the track. One can never start too early  ATM I am very happy with my Queensland bred BC's :)
  21. I was about to ask this question in the original thread. I would be interested if anyone has tried it & if their dogs had any reaction to it It seems that no-one wants to be the first
  22. Crate him when he can't be watched & get rid of the smell under the table that keeps attracting him :) Crating or puppy pen is the quickest way to toilet train. IMO
  23. Problem is...if your pet needs $10,000 for surgery, there is no guarantee that the insurance company will pay it & there-in lies the problem. There is too much fine print. Insurance companies are there to make a profit. I have been paying Health Insurance Extras for years & years...finally go to the dentist thinking I can get $500 worth of treatment & get the $500 back, but oh no.....I had to pay out $1000 to get $400 back.
  24. The same here...a couple of the clips that are on dog leads. If you go to Bunnings, they have a few different types of clips you can use.
