I was going to put this in the Border Collie section, but thought others might find it interesting. For viewing a blow up of the poster you can go to This Link WOW...that came out BIG

WOW...thanks guys for all the info. A little bit of overload though...enough to pickle the brains of these teenagers that I am doing this for  If I hit them with all that, they would just go back to looking at their mobile phones, while I am talking So in the end, I just put " An ANKC Registered Breeder is bound by regulations set out by the State body of ANKC, restricting breeding practices including minimum age of the bitch, & how many times she can be bred from & how often" Sound simple ????
-
Thanks...I had a look there & couldn't find the info I needed.

I am doing up a project & can't find this info on the ANKC website. What I want to know is what is the regulations governing breeding bitches ie. min age, how often, how many litters etc ... Does it differ from state to state ???....thanks in advance :)

I am doing a bit of a demo at our local Education Campus tomorrow & thought I would just give them a brief history of the border collie. The Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, English Shepherd, Kelpie and McNab are all cousins, descended from working collies possessing traits that particular breeders found desirable for their purposes. I have never heard of a McNab dog before & a bit of Googling makes me think it is what we would call a short haired border collie or even a Koolie. Can anyone enlighten me please :)

Well yes...I can well imagine....a lot easier when you are retired

This is just one example Wonder dogs School . Katrina & Kelly Gill are experienced trainers in most dog disciplines including obedience & agility. They run an on-line puppy school & other courses too. Highly recommended :) ALL positive reward based training.

I am an hour from my club where I teach & train every Monday night. We have got used to having to travel & of course we have to travel big distances to get to trial. I can put you in touch with some of the agility people who do great on-line courses. they may not be world super-stars but they are good :)

I just watched one of their videos on their FB page & couldn't see one treat bag in sight, some might find that form of training OK, but for me, I prefer a reward based training with lots of free shaping. I like to see the dogs having lots of fun while they learn :) ...but that's just my opinion.

Can you give us a hint as to where you are in NSW as there are lots of good dog clubs throughout country NSW. I think just the name of that organisation "Alpha Canine Professional" would wave a red rag at me.

Instead of having him on a leash when you are trying to toilet him, you could fencing off a small area where you want him to pee/poo & just pop him in there, wait till you have success, then praise, treat & remove from pen. some dogs do not like to do their business while on lead, but will happily do it when let off. One of those compost panel things from Bunnings would be ideal. Don't start putting a cue word on it until he really knows what he is doing, then introduce the cue word as he squats & is doing his bit :)

Half of my backyard is undercover if that helps? Or will it still be better to get a kennel? Yes. I see you are in NSW - what area? How hot/cold does it get. Undercover may still get wet in heavy rain My eyes must be playing tricks with me, because mine says that Noobie is in Qld & I can't see what the cross of the pup is

West Puppy - Eye Discharge, Suspected Dry Eye?
sheena replied to idealgrind's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My guy had this when he was young. The vet said it was a blocked tear duct & wanted to operate. I started just gently massaging around the base of his eye & it came good in no time. :) -
Can you give us a link to the facebook page as I am having trouble finding it. Then if it is a public page, we can all share it on our FB

Maybe Silly Questions About Feeding Puppy With Older Dog Around
sheena replied to DaveyCC's topic in Puppy Chat
Going by the breed standard, I would say he could be a little overweight. My very, very active border collies weighing 18 & 23 kilos get, not quite a metric cup of BH kibble a day. They also get an egg & a bit of yogurt & half a turkey neck, plus a few training treats & a tiny bit more kibble when performing their "tricks" for us :) So comparing dogs, I would say you are over feeding him & he is telling you that. Definately don't go by the guide on the back of the pack, because that is all it is...a guide. -
Maybe Silly Questions About Feeding Puppy With Older Dog Around
sheena replied to DaveyCC's topic in Puppy Chat
It sounds like Davey is getting too much food. May I ask, what breed he is, what does he way & how much Black Hawk does he get given daily or per meal. Interested to know this as my two Border Collies are on Black Hawk & I know that some people do overfeed it. -
Maybe Silly Questions About Feeding Puppy With Older Dog Around
sheena replied to DaveyCC's topic in Puppy Chat
Can you feed them together, but separated by a barrier or wire door, so they can still see each other eating. If the puppy hasn't eaten all his within 15 minutes take it away & give it back to him at the next meal time. Don't let him pinch the older dog's food...take his away too if he doesn't finish it. You may be giving the older dog too much. -
