  1. I would suggest you get into clicker training with him. It is so much fun & a great tool for teaching any sport. Start off by teaching him tricks. If you have never done it before, here is a link to an article I wrote on getting started with the clicker http://www.grevilleacottagebordercollies.com/clicker-training-made-easy.asp
  2. My 6 year old border collie still digs in the garden. He likes to make holes to sleep in. I have allowed him one area in the garden & if he starts to dig in other parts I throw all the dog poo on that spot & it stops him for a while. My older BC has never dug the garden up.
  3. It sounds like the dog is feeding off your nerves. If she is a friend who values your friendship, then she should lock it away when you visit. Having it on lead is not good enough. Some dogs are more aggressive when on lead & there is the danger of it being able to pull away from her, being such a strong dog. Maybe put it in a crate in the same room so it can get used to you without the fear of biting you. But if it were me, I wouldn't trust it. Does she know any of it's history, being a rescue???
  4. My dogs have always been fed Black Hawk along with other fresh stuff, but recently I changed them to MFM's Kangaroo & Lamb. Not sure if it is my imagination, & I havn't been able to get them weighed, but they both look like they are putting on heaps of weight. I have cut down on the eggs/sardines etc that I always put with the BH. Now they only get one or the other, not both with their meal. I am also cutting right back with the MFM's. Nothing else has changed, just their kibble. Anyone else noticed a weight increase on MFM's.
  5. My dogs love the heads, but I roughly pull off the spiky bits & don't give them too many at a time
  6. I have been giving my two border collies Nexgard for about three years now....no reaction & have never in that time found any ticks on them even though we live out in the bush in a bad tick area. It is a monthly tablet.
  7. Thanks JRG. I just did a bit of a Google & a few sites refer to the dangers of dried seaweed (which is what they are eating)...here is just one quote:- Beware of Wild Sun-Dried Seaweed No type of seaweed is inherently unsafe, but the condition and preparation of the seaweed can have a huge impact on a dog's health. Dried, wild seaweed of the type commonly seen on beaches during high summer is not good for your pooch. The sun dries out the seaweed, causing it to shrink. Once digested, the seaweed will expand inside your pup's stomach, causing potentially fatal blockages. Does anybody else have a dog that eats seaweed???
  8. We spend a lot of time at the beach & my dogs have just this last couple of weeks started to eat the sea weed along the high tide mark. First one dog started doing it & now the other. Apart from making them really thirsty & their poos a bit sloppy, are they doing themselves any harm?? They really search it out
  9. I have a small patch of artificial grass down that I use as a pathway. I do know that it gets very very hot
  10. Thanks everyone...I have reported her to the FB Admin & she has been deleted
  11. She answered my PM with a request to email her...gave me an email address. Maybe I should inform the community group that it is a scam
  12. She has turned off comments on them, so I have PM'd her. I don't really expect a reply
  13. Just fingernail size bits would send my dogs scooting when they were pups. They don't seem to have an issue with boiled or baked liver, just the dried stuff. Maybe because it is so concentrated.
  14. I was one of the original distributors for Black Hawk, way back when it was being packaged in plain white bags. My dogs have been on it for most of their life ( 8 to 9 years) as the main part of their diet. I also give them raw food, eggs, yogurt, sardines, mackerel, turkey necks, kangaroo mince, cooked left over vegies etc etc. I no longer distribute it but I have no intentions of changing to any other brand. It all depends on what you feel your dogs are doing well on...& for me...that is Black Hawk. Sometimes I buy them the lamb, but mostly it is the Fish & (sweet) Potato.
  15. Go easy on the dried liver treats as it can give pups the most terrible runs !!
  16. Someone in the Grafton NSW area is re-homing her pugs. Just putting it on here in case some Pug breeder may recognise them
  17. Yes that is what I thought too. I think the person selling these pups ( x kelpie x coolie) may be getting it mixed up with Council Registration Requirements. Impossible to tell some people things. Certainly don't want to start an argument with her
  18. Is it a requirement in NSW that working dog pups have to be microchipped before they can be sold or given away?? I thought all pups had to be, but maybe I am wrong
  19. I was surprised to that he recommended bones that are too hard that they can't be chewed up. For a ten year old dog, her teeth are good. No gum disease & just tarter on the front ones...back ones are as clean as a whistle. In summer I give them frozen too most of the time
  20. I have always given my almost ten year old border collie girl half a large turkey neck daily. If I can't source turkey necks then she gets a chicken drumstick. I have always thought that the turkey neck would be good for her teeth as it has sinew & grizzle as well as bone that she can chew up. I took her for her yearly check up today & it appears that she is starting to get tarter on her front teeth. Her back teeth are fine. The vet said that what I am giving her is not good for teeth, but I should be giving her large hard bones that she cant chew up, but not with marrow. I have always believed that they can crack their teeth on hard bones or wear their teeth down Opinions please !!
  21. Budget Pets are advertising it
  22. No feedback on this product yet ??
  23. I hav,t been on here for a while, but has there been any discussion on this new monthly flea/tick/mite chewable??
  24. No...I had quite forgotten that I had asked
  25. Thanks...she has a lovely nature & PLENTY of drive & the owner is keen for her to learn agility, so it will be interesting to see how she turns out.
