Glad to see things are improving... but why don't you believe the theory above? It may be that the excess weight is adding to the issue and without the wieght, the dog may not succumb to the symptoms as easily. I do agree somewhat that weight can be adding to the problem which is why we are dieting. But my dogs are in no way obese. Dog in question, blue heeler weighs 23kg. I just don't agree that it is the full diagnosis of the snorting. But yes - we can all afford to trim up a bit in this household. I would have thought 23 kilos for a blue heeler, way over weight to be healthy

I noticed you mentioned "schoolroom"....does he get much social interaction with other kids other than his siblings...if so...how does he cope with other kids. I would definately be keeping him away from animals.

Rat Poison (talon) And Dog Safety - Your Advice Please
sheena replied to UltimatePup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have one and it's CRAP ! It goes off and the food is gone - no dead rats or mice. I have done everything the guy who sells them tells me to do, and yet it still doesn't kill them. I bought a couple & think they are great. 4 mice & one rat in the first week Maybe there is something wrong with yours. -
My BC girl did this over the weekend in the middle of an Open Agility Run...on top of the dog walk. I didn't know what was happening & people watching thought she was going to be sick. She did it on & off over the whole weekend, whenever she got excited or did a run. I was quite worried about her till I got home last night & googled it & gave her an antihistamine & she is fine now she is home...must have been pollen or something at the trial ground. Glad to know it is not serious but it certainly stops her from running an event & it looks scary to people watching. ;) Any one know how to stop it when it happens, or if maybe an antihistamine in the morning might be enough to get her through the day

She is an 18 kilo BC & in the mornings she gets a turkey neck & at night she gets a cup of BH with about 100 grams of roo mince (enough to stick her proban tablets in). Every 5th night she gets a tin of sardines with her BH instead of the mince.

My dog just this weekend at a trial started sucking air through her nose & seemed a bit distressed during an agility run. She does it sometimes when I put down her food & she gets excited, but this seemed to be with her all weekend whenever she would do a bit of a run. The paddock had just been slashed with lots of grass seeds. 7 hours later, we are now home & I thought she had stopped it, but she just did it again while grooming herself. Is this reverse sneezing????

no probs I think this is what some people feel is a bit over the top & is nothing short of advertising.

I thought this was a thread on Black Hawk. Canidae must be losing a bit of market share, hence the reason to get onto the Black Hawk thread & use it to advertise it's product. I think that post showing the bag of food, should be removed. I, for one, would NEVER buy a bag of dog kibble that has to come from overseas :D Talk about "food miles" :p We have all the resources to produce a top quality dog kibble here in Australia from local ingredients & that is why I choose to buy Black Hawk apart from the fact my dog does well on it & she gives it the stamp of approval. ;)

I don't use Advantage, but I use Advantix & I use 1ml for every 10kg of dog, plus a little bit for good measure. ie for my 19kilo dog I will put 2.5ml of Advantix.

Dogs With Sensitive Skin Goats Milk Soap
sheena replied to woodbyne's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have used a goats milk with lavender & rosemary made for washing humans hair (dry scalp) & it worked well on my girl, & she smelt devine. Unfortunately I have misplaced it somewhere (hope she didn't eat it) so this posting was a reminder to me to get some more...not that I wash her very often. -
I think I am still trying to play catch up, but here is one for this week

We've got our teams (2) organised from our club...the team we are in is called "Chicken Chasers" ...two midis & a toy, & am getting my entry in tomorrow to beat the early closing date (discount) end of March. Surely there are more DOL's out there going besides those who have put their hand up. If the ADAA Nationals are as much fun as last years Grand Prix then we are in for a pretty much fun time at the Equestrian Centre at Tamworth. If you are not going then "why not" ??????? I would love to know if any of the really good dogs from other states are coming :D

Shes fine on concrete ,but easily distracted on walks, has to be told to pay attention ,is it an age thing Probably more a lack of training

Luvsdogs....did you look at this video of how they go about taping their BC's ears in America Not sure if I would go to that much trouble to get a pricked eared dog...besides, pricked eared BC's have a different personality & if they were artificially pricked then they wouldn't match the personality IMO

I will still get a bag of puppy formula, but when she gets to adult formula I will beg Sherel to change to cow cartilage! The popularity of shark cartilage initally came from the thought that it prevented cancer. As a source of glucoaminoglycans cow cartilage is just as good, if not superior (mammalian derived). Never costed the two, but logically I'd guess the cow product would be cheaper too. It's a selling point of Glyde over the other joint powders. Looking forward to trying the BH puppy. I cant change the world, but as an avid scuba diver I like doing my bit. I would have thought that the shark cartilage they use would just be a byproduct of the fishing industry & would otherwise just be thrown out after processing the flake. I am sure the sharks are not fished solely for their cartilage, not in this country anyway, nor would endangered species be used.

I get mine from Julana who lives at Ipswich [email protected] Her husband takes it into Brisbane to his work at Newstead & I get Fastway Couriers to pick it up from there & bring it down to Coffs Harbour for me. I am now onto my second bag & my daughter has bought a bag also for her little malties. I am very happy & so is my BC girl It is definately worth the little extra trouble in getting it delivered. Price has dropped also :D

Maybe you could ask your breeder for a bit of Supercoat when you pick up the pup, so you can slowly switch her over....save you buying a whole bag. ;) 1.5kg of Supercoat is a whole $10 or $11 - not exactly expensive. Not having ever bought Supercoat & the way the OP put it I thought it must have only come in big bags...so sorry But most good breeders will give you a bit of the food the puppy is used to, without even having to ask.

Somebody sent me this link, as they know I like pricked eared BC's...I could never go to that much trouble & I have always thought those lovely overseas BC's like Greg Derret's & Susan Garret's had naturally pricked ears

Another good training aid is a digital subscription to the Clean Run Magazine which comes out monthly.....heaps of training talk in there Costs about $29 for 12 editions delivered digitally.

Shaping A Dog To Walk Backwards
sheena replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Perfect! I was throwing it backwards but not between their front legs, or feeding them head lowered to push their weight backwards . Thanks Vickie. Excellent - a step up from throwing the food under the chair, but reducing the option of them wanting to run through the chair and then back around to face me . Will try this too I knew DOL would give me some ideas Can you tell that I'm now trying to do some training that plays to my dogs' (and my) weaknesses rather than doing the simple stuff With my method...the ONLY treat which is used as a lure is the first one, the rest are rewards for behaviour with regard to placement of reward ie. back between your legs. After teaching this to Bindi, it is the first behavior she will offer me when playing clicker games.
