My girl's harness clicks into the seat belt, but on a couple of occassions she has suddenly appeared in the front with us. She steps on the seat belt buckle which instantly releases her. I am not sure if she has worked it out & does it on purpose, but it is a bit of a worry. I can't connect it to the child SB bolt, as she spins & gets tangled in it.

I understand the concept - the part that doesn't sit well with me is that we as humans are doing the natural selection thing, we decide what is the best conformation not nature - who's to say we haven't ballsed up and the standard really isn't the best the dog could be. I hear all the time of standard changes and of breeds no longer representing what they should. anything a human has a hand in producing is just as likely to backfire if you ask me. My honest opinion is that some of the labs i've seen on the net that are meant to be show winners seem rather heavy boned/large set - I'm not sure how this would help a retrieving dog who needs to be fairly active. Again I'm a noob at it so could be completely wrong. Btw I have no interest in becoming a breeder I just find it a little sad we as humans decide which dogs are deemed 'worthy' of reproducing (exceptions for deformities and illnesses and the like - common sense). I agree with you. Dogs are being put on mains register & bred from, just because they have good confirmation etc in the show ring, but maybe those dogs have problems with giving birth naturally for example....a very important fact for natural survival. Also with my breed, Border Collies, certain colours are not accepted on the mains register anymore, or pricked ears, means you have no chance in the show ring, so what do these "faults" have to do with whether a dog is structurally sound & should or should not not be allowed on mains register???? Look what our years of selective breeding has done to the poor old King Charles Spaniel, or breeds with flat faces or GSD's that can't walk a straight line without wobbling on their back legs. I am not a breeder, just an observer from the sidelines.

I don't like Schnauzers....they are cranky little buggers & almost every time without fail, they will lunge at my BC girl, who if she lunges back, gets into trouble, while the Schnauzer owners just ignore & let them get away with it. She was badly lunged at by one when she was a pup, so maybe she gives off vibes when in close proximity. I have been told by a Snzer owner that they ARE cranky little buggers, even to each other & to their owners.

Gave my BC puppy his Black Hawk last night topped with several lovely slices of fresh turkey. He carefully removed the slices of turkey & gobbled up the BH, then returned & ate the turkey last.

I put my BC pup onto the adult formula when I got him at 10 weeks. He absolutely loves it & is growing nicely & looking great with plenty of energy. I am just going by the weight chart on the bag, which also says that for puppies up to 6 months you double the rate.

You wont buy it in the shops. It comes in 20 kilo bags (tho I think maybe they are making smaller bags now). I get mine via a courier. There is a lot written about it on this health forum. My last bag cost me $80 for a 20 kilo bag & I have my 3 yo Border Collie on it plus my 12 week old BC puppy....they love it, & both dogs are looking great with plenty of energy etc. Here is the link to their website http://www.kylainknls.com/food.htm

I agree with you...why have to train it twice With this pup, I want to train him the right way from the start & not get into "lazy" sits & drops like my older dog...just in case one day I might want to do obedience with him I know in agility "anything goes" as long as they don't move on the start line....it doesn't really matter how they sit or drop.

Have you ever thought of trying a sample of Black Hawk....my dogs go balistic over it. It is Australian & has some very interesting ingredients

I have taught my 12 week old BC pup the sit on demand & he does it nicely. I am using a clicker, & have taught him to drop but havn't put a name to it yet as he drops in a very lazy fashion....rolled over on one hip. How do I get him to do a neat drop with all 4 legs tucked up underneath him. I find if I lure him forward a bit after he has flopped he will tuck his back legs up under & I have tried clicking this position. Is there a better way...he just looks at me when I don't click & treat his lazy effort. As I said...I havn't put a name to it yet..it's very early days....just thought someone might have a better method of teaching it correct from the start

I was going to suggest this. Maybe get some of those cheap wire panels from Bunnings (compost section) & put them around the couch or use them to block access to that area when you are not around.

I have my 12 week old BC on Adult Black Hawk as advised by a lot of DOL's using this product. Only problem is, I am not too sure how much he should be getting. At the moment I am feeding him as much as my adult BC gets & I guess I just watch his weight to see that he is not putting it on too fast.

I have one of those...probably a better quality one & found it very handy when my dog was young to deter her from barking, chewing the walls, chasing cars, chooks, jumping up etc. It doesn't hurt their ears, just distracts them...I would say they probably find the sound irritating & uncomfortable. The one I have called the original "Dazer" is designed to repell dog attacks. I am sure if you pointed it at an attacking dog, your dog would also get the sound, which could confuse it a bit, but I have often thought of carrying it with me, in case I have to actually break up a fight. It is also good for repelling irritating mice & rats that get into the wall behind your bed at night & I have used it to get an annoying rooster out of a tree near the house. It is supposed to only send the sound forward in an arc...but not sure about that.

I started my 11 week old BC Puppy on Black Hawk Adult from the day I got him & he went nuts over it. I am still not sure exactly how much to give him though, as he also gets RMB & mince & a kong stuffed with chicken mince/Black Hawk. He is growing well (upwards) & very active with nice poos, but always wants more food which I am reluctant to give him. At 12 weeks he is now about 8 kilos & I give him, all up, about a cup of BH plus the extras mentioned. And before you go asking for a photo.....I have pre-empted (taken at 11 weeks)

My daughter's aging Maltese has calcium deposits in the eye...has anyone else had experience with this condition & what is the best way of treating it. She was hoping someone might know of a natural remedy. The vet does not want to operate & said it was a normal part of aging

Thanks for the replies guys. I stopped using the Proban as I have been told that prolonged use causes organ failure, so I only use it during the bad tick season, which up my way is usually Nov to March, but this year I went a couple of months longer. The Proban does not repel the ticks or fleas, it only kills them after they have attached & had a feed....so dog still itches. The other months of the year I use Advantix but feel that maybe ticks & fleas are building a resistance to it & I thought Comfortis might be more suitable for fleas because it doesn't wash off. My vet told me that Proban & Advantix could be used together.

I applied Advantix to my BC about a week ago, before we left home for a little trip. I think she might have picked up some fleas as she is scratching in those "fleay" type places & I can't find any ticks on her....I thought I saw a little black thing running through her hair. I am not surprised that the Advantix hasn't worked. Can I give her Comfortis as a precaution in case the Advantix hasn't worked It is only about 10 days since I stopped using Proban .

We send our own organic cattle off to the abbatroir to be butchered & I have always asked for ALL the offal to be returned....tongue, liver, kidneys, heart etc, but I have to BUY it back off them. I think there is something wrong there ....having to buy back pieces of my own beast...have never done it as I am sure I wouldn't get my own organic offal back !!!!
