Just saw a red belly snake on the side of the road near Glenreagh Nth. NSW. Maybe they are all coming out of their holes because of the flood last week. Having blacks around will not guarantee you will not get browns, but the blacks eat the young browns thus reducing the numbers. In areas where you get cane toads, the blacks are dying out from eating the toads & being taken over by the browns. I don't like any snakes, but the blacks are fairly non agressive, where the browns will cross the road to have a go at you Unfortunately some dogs like to chase them & thats how they get bitten.

This is not exactly new, as we've had Cricket for over 3 weeks now....but I came across this photo taken the 1st day he was home. Wondering just what the conversation is that is going on between them. :D My bet is "Pleeeaase can I be your friend on Facebook?....pleeeeaase??" "I don't allow just anyone to be my friend....You're going to have to prove yourself first....son!!"

I have been trying to take videos with my Canon DSLR 500D & some turn out OK, but others are very out of focus. I have it set on "Video" (of course) & when I turn it on, I get the message "perform AF with AE Lock <*> button". What am I doing wrong, I thought it would be simple & all focusing/exposure etc would be done automatically

Ditto, what breed is it? To me a deposit would be between $100 - $200. I really dont care what breed it is. 1500 isn't a lot for an adult dogand it sure isn't a lot for a adult female as a potential brood bitch. Maybe not.....but that's just the deposit

I put my BC puppy onto the adult (as advised) when I got him at the age of 11 weeks. It says on the packet to give them twice the adult amount going by their weight.
-
PnkPuppy, you are a breeder yourself, so what would you do if it was one of your pups you had taken a deposit on I am very curious to know what breed of dog it is

My little guy had his second vaccination at 11 & 1/2 weeks & vet said he would be fine after 1 week & the 3rd vaccination was not necessary.

My daughter & I are going to start to distribute it out of Coffs Harbour on the NSW North & Mid North Coast. Any feedback as to who we would be helping in this area, would be greatly appreciated. Currently we get ours down from the distributor in Ipwich. We would be hoping to get a good deal through a local courier company + do local deliveries ourselves.

To All The People Who Are Not Sure About Desexing Under 12 Months
sheena replied to KOE's topic in General Dog Discussion
If this was to be made law, then only the reputable breeders would be obliged to abide by it...the puppy farms & BYB's are not going to care less I think you will find that most (not all) dogs that end up in pounds & rescue centres are not puppies from reputable breeders, but are a result of puppy farms (usually sold through pet shops) & BYB's who don't give 2 hoots as to where their puppies end up. So the health of the good pups would be made to suffer while the mongrels live on, fully intact to jump the neighbours fence & spread their oats, to produce more puppies to end up in more rescue centres. -
Yeah from what I've been told by this rep is, any product still in the paper bag is still produced in the US and the rest is all in Aus. I will try find out more tomorrow. The three main Aus made foods we sell at work are Advance, Nutro and ProPlan. Nutro is probably the best choice if you are after close to 100% Aussie made. The only issue with Nutro at the moment is they appear to be discontinuing afew of there bigger bags. 15kg Puppy chicken/rice, not even the Nutro rep and her boss knew why this had been deleted, Senior has been gone since it came out, which after speaking to the rep they are currently working on a lite/Mature formula and from memory I believe a few of the 8kg bags are gone aswell. Advance is also Australian made and has quite alot of variety in formulas. Both Advance and Nutro are from Mars and the main advantage for nutro is its all natural ingrediants. After feeding these two to both my dogs I would have to say I am quite happy with the both of them. My younger dog is currently on Nutro as I like having the option for variety in adult formulas and my older girl is on Advance senior. Before hand my older girl was on super market "on sale" senior foods. Since the change her coat has been softer and shiney, her stools being alot more firmer and she has less gas issues. She is also abit more comfortable getting up and down as she use to groan all the time after having a sleep or even laying for short periods of time. Those are my opinions and experiences with some of the Australian made foods, but anyone wishing to go Australian and unsure about how there dogs will react to it should just go for it and buy a bag. The companies offer 100% money back garentees on purchased products so you have nothing to lose . Hmmmmmm...getting closer to 100%, but sadly Pro Plan, Nutro & Advance are all overseas owned. Mars is a USA company.

Just make sure you don't cue with words such as "good boy" or you may find him relieving himself when you say "good boy" to something else. I don't like to use "yes" either for the same reason.

I give my BC girl turkey wings....I don't find them fatty. She crunches them up. The puppy picks all the meat off his & leaves most of the bone, which I throw away. They also get Turkey necks.

I posted this on this thread yesterday Posted 11 June 2011 - 04:51 PM " Took my 13 week old BC puppy to the beach market today. I was being very careful with him as he is probably now going through his first "fear" period. While I was talking to a stallholder, a massive Bull Terrier x, offlead, came running up to him. He was probably friendly, but I couldn't take that chance & quickly picked my puppy up. But what sort of people let these type of dogs (or any dog, for that matter) raom around markets offlead & unsupervised " I'm telling you, I almost s#*#t myself...I have never seen a bully so BIG & he was going to eat my little boy

This is a little off topic, but would be good if you lived in Brisbane although they do deliver Australia Wide....An All Australian On-line supermarket. The number of stars a products has, determines just how much of it is Australian. ie 4 stars = 100% http://www.onlyoz.com.au/index.php

According to a ProPlan rep I spoke to at work, the whole range is Aus made except the Sensitive at this stage. I have a bag of Pro Plan Puppy here, which I won. It is manufactured by Mid Western Pet Foods - USA
-
Thats what I want to know...100% Australian Owned & produced & 100% Australian produce (I'd be happy with 99.9%) I think Pro Plan might be overseas owned ?? Maybe I could get hold of a shoppers guide like Ausbuy.

My 13 wk old BC puppy, Cricket, associates being put on the grass with weeing. So before I let him into the house for a game, I lock him up either in his crate or X pen for a short while then take him out on the grass...he wees, then he gets to come in & play (I still keep watch). In the two weeks we have had him he hasn't wee'd in the house....that is...until last night. He had had his game in the lounge room, I opened the door for both dogs to go outside to do wee's & PICKED UP MY TORCH. Bindi ran outside like a good girl, but Cricket ran immediately back into the lounge room, gave me a happy look & proceeded to do a lovely wee on the carpet. Thinking about it, he associated my picking up the torch as a cue to wee I never let him run around in the house unsupervised...he is either outside, or in his X pen or crate & I always give him a yummy treat for going into his pen or crate. Last night he slept from 9pm till 7am

What other brands of the top of the range dog kibbles are 100% Australian owned, made & produced besides Black Hawk?? This is important to some people, including myself, who like to think of the "food miles" when shopping around.

My little Cricket is doing his "drops" on demand, but at this stage I am calling it "down" as it is not perfect...but for a 13 wk old BC, he has the most beautiful "stay". He has worked out pretty quickly that that is where the treats are, so now I am teaching him "get it", otherwise he will stay for ages, not quite understanding that I want him to "release" & go to the treat He is such a character & loves the focus game. Sometimes I think maybe he has already seen the training video & is one step ahead off me.

This is exactly what my partner and I are currently doing. We've been taking turns waking up (puppy let's us know when he starts ripping newspapers in the crate, lol) and take him out on to the lawn to do his thing. Works great! sheena, if your pup is doing its business everywhere, you have have to re-train it on the right spot that he can only do his business. Before that, I'd start by cleaning all the places he peed/ pooped with non-ammonia based cleaning products as he'll smell the scent where he previously "marked". thought I said the opposite ....he sleeps right through the night & has only had ONE mishap (which was my fault) in over two weeks. When it comes to toileting...he is an absolute dream thanks to crates.
-
Why don't you put him in a crate next to your bed, then take him out on the grass when he gets agitated during the night. Quickest way to toilet train them. My BC pup has only had one mishap in his crate since I brought him home 2 weeks ago & that was my fault (too slow to get out of bed) Now he sleeps right through the night from 9 till 6 & has been for about 10 days now. Crates are a great way to go

Friend Is Determined On Getting A Puppy That Is For Free
sheena replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
If her father wont let her spend any money on buying the dog, then is he going to allow her to feed it a good quality food & pay for all its vet needs. Sounds like her father thinks dogs are a disposable item. It will be most likely raised on poor feed, given minimal health treatment & when things become too expensive, he will have it PTS. Especially a giant breed like a GSD -
But certain colours can't be put on mains register, unless the breeder lies about it, so therefor can't be bred from My argument exactly with the stupid colour rule introduced by the ANKC without any consultation with breeders. Idiotic to make our ONLY disqualification from main registration based on something as insignificant as coat colour. If the breeders ask what colour they can main register a puppy they are actually being told to register them as the closest listed colour. Absolutely stupid and just results in a whole lot of dogs being registered as the wrong colour. As every other country allows all colours it means that if you want to export a main register puppy it has to have the wrong colour registered, be exported and have the colour altered in the country it is going to. And this is going to lead to all sorts of problems down the track, when a breeder is researching pedigrees to help with their breeding programs, only to discover that a so & so dog, way back in the line was not really a red, but a sable or was a chocolate tri instead of the listed chocolate. I am glad I am not a breeder, but I find the whole topic very interesting.
