Are you saying that the people who sas no snakes had the repellers installed????? I thought I might give them a go. I think there are some cheap imitations around so cheapest may not always be best. If they don't work then I will not be a very good customer & will tell them so, but if they do, then as you say....a bonus.
-
Remember, though, your dogs will still get bitten if they are in reach of the netting & a snake gets tangled in it & starts to get excited. Have you thought of those solar snake repellants, ?

Where do you get them from? I can only get beef and sheep hearts. Some chicken shops sell them. If your local one doesn't have them, maybe ask if they can get them in. I know the nearest chicken shop to me is happy to order things they don't stock, e.g. turkey necks. Whole chicken hearts are great for small dogs too! The little guy here gets two as part of his raw diet once a week, while the bigger dogs get five times that. Oh thanks, I hadn't thought of going to a chicken shop for some reason. Will try it. Sheena - your kitchen must smell nice after that If you ask my dogs, I am sure they will agree with you. There is only one other occasion when it smells nicer & that is when I thinly slice beef liver & bake it slowly in the oven. Then there's the garlic when I fry their tiny little meat-bally things I get from the supermarket. Oh, & I almost forgot, when I add a can of cheap mackeral to their mince cake I make up for treats. No wonder I don't see much of hubby some times But when it comes to yummy treats, my dogs just loooooovvvvvve me.

I chop mine in half & boil them well...let them cool, then it is much easier to handle when you chop them into tiny pieces. The resulting heart-flavoured water I keep in a jar & pour it over their kibble.

I mainly use it for it's forums as I find them both educational & entertaining.....when OH says to me...."You on that computer again?" I answer "I'm studying" :D I do sometimes look at the breeder pages & I have a DOL Website.

I don't get much work done these days.... & I am putting on weight All the fault of DOL. Even bought a lap top so I can take DOL on holidays with me. Maybe someone should start up a DOL Anonomys. I must say it is far more interesting than the TV & as far as housework goes...well, there is always tomorrow

If I wanted to buy a pup on Mains Register, I would have no objection, in fact I would expect to pay more, the same as I would expect the pup on mains to be superior quality to those being sold on Limited. If you look on the Puppy's for sale page, there are a lot of breeds listed there where they offer most of their pups on Main, whereas, with my breed, border collies, it is very hard to buy a pup on Mains & the odd breeder offering all their pups on Mains, wouldn't be worth a look at, cause no entire litter could ever be that good IMO.

What Brand Of Dry Food Do You Feed Your Dog?
sheena replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just to give more feedback from a pet store perspective (mid north coast of NSW) we seem to sell mostly Holistic Select but after these current supply issues Advance seems to have picked up (maybe being Aussie...we can tell customers no supply issues!) Hills and Euk and RC are next. I'm personally not a fan of Hills and Euk. We've had amazing feedback from Holistic for skin issues with maybe 3-4 negative responses, but I myself am switching to BH (shhh don't tell my boss lol) but i'm currently finishing off big bags of Pro Plan and Holistic Select. I was in a certain pet store ;) the other day to buy a new lead & look at beds (need one that is indestructable) & I noticed all the Holistic Select there & I thought....Gee Black Hawk must be good if Cleo chooses it above all this good stuff. My two BC's are doing great on BH & love it so much, the puppy will move the meat aside so he can eat the BH first. He has been on it most of his 7 months & I noticed with his coat, it is so shiny & soft that dirt simply does not stick to it, no matter what he rolls in. The older girl who was only started on it as a 3 yo, has a lovely coat, but it doesn't shed the dirt like his. Wondering if this has something to do with the food, or the fact that he is still young?? Also, normally by this time of the year Bindi would be covered with ticks despite applying Advantix & Proban, but this year we are hard pressed to find any on them. We know they are around cause they have been crawling on us & we found a new born calf with hundreds on him (he is just fine). I was wondering if the food, just maybe helping to repel the little blighters, after all one of the claims of a food being "Holistic" is that it is for the "whole" body including pest control. -
I think the OP is asking about electric (hot wire) fences...they will keep everything out or in

I had a look at a 2011 Kluger today & No, the seats don't fold down flat, not like the Territory's anyway. The price was about the same & you couldn't reverse the floor in the boot. Extra for heavy duty tow kit was about $1000 & he didn't give me a price on the cargo barrier. I was told with the ford, that $1000 just about covers both.

Go to your local produce store & have a chat. We use one around the house as we are on a farm & it certainly stops the dogs jumping over or digging under. They only touch it once, so do us humans for that matter.

Tic...it's a lot easier if your dog is already trained to love the clicker. The clicker is a much more instant marker than your voice or calling his name. You get good at it & can mark the exact moment he looks at the other dogs. If you use his name & he ignores it, then you run the risk of ruining your recall training. The clicker acts as both an instant marker & also an interupter. My girl just will do anything for the clicker & now I only just have to produce it in a stressful situation & do a couple of minutes of LAT & she is "all mine". In your case you would start off with the other dogs being still & at a distance, & the instant Bronson turns his head to look at them, you would click & treat. Providing he understands the clicker, if he doesn't turn instantly, then you need to move further away. You just build it up from there till he can see the other dogs playing & doesn't react. It doesn't happen overnight & don't move on too quickly.

Just briefly, it's the opposite to Look At Me & is very handy for dogs that are distracted, stressed or reactive to stimuli. EG. My dog is/was very distracted by other dogs running in a trial..if she was on course, she would get distracted or if she was just waiting in line, she would lunge & spin & carry on like a Tassie Devil. It's called "counter-conditioning" & you start off small & build up the stimuli. When the dog looks at the stimuli (but before she has reacted) you click...the dog turns to you & you treat. If the dog doesn't turn, it means you have jumped ahead too much & you need to go back a few steps. Eventually, the dog sees the stimuli...looks quickly at it, then automatically turns back to you, as if to say, "did you see that...where's my treat" It's good also to get dogs to learn a balance between handler focus & obstical focus. Instead of the stimuli being a hinderance, it actually becomes a cue for your dog to look at you. You will get a lot of critisism from people who "know", but I have learnt to ignore that & it has paid off for me & my highly reactive BC. She is still a work in progress but has improved out of sight. I couldn't be happier.

Having great success with my BC girl using LAT. At training tonight even the arrival of the "little dog on the string" only phased her slightly till I started playing the game of LAT, then it was "Oh, there is a little dog over there, did you see it.....where's my treat, Mum " I have just bought Leslies Control Unleashed DVD's & Book & am making my way through them. She has more to offer than just LAT

There are plenty of Falcon wagons around it's just that from about 2002 to 2010 they pretty well look the same, the Falcon seems to holding their price too now if they are a nice one with low Km's. They arn't making the falcon wagons anymore. It has been replaced by the Territory. Our Wagon is a 2004 (?) & we would be lucky to get $6000 for it in good condition.

This link was started in April....may be some help http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/218525-ford-territory-owners-what-are-your-cars-like/

We currently have a Ford wagon & love the space in the back, but sadly it is getting a bit long in the tooth & we are looking at replacing it with a new Territory. We were lucky enough for someone at a trial recently, to kindly show us his which was a 2010 model. He had a cargo barrier fitted & there was heaps of room for his 3 BC's. You wouldn't get a crate in it, but with the cargo barrier, you wouldn't need it. Also there was storage space under the boot & the rear seats folded down flat. To us, it didn't seem to be that much smaller than the wagon. It had more height in the boot than the wagon. Also the Territory holds it's value well. I have heard the later models are a big improvement on the earlier ones.

Is this the same dog that choked on a bone a few days ago Could be his throat is irritated from this incident, it that's the case.

Your Quinn sounds just like my Bindi BC. We have been working on LAT & having great success with it. The difference is unbelievable

Anyone Going To The Grand Prix
sheena replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's a great video you have put together. I remember when you first started with Den, & it doesn't seem that long ago. He is an amazing dog & you are a great handler. I wish I could have started in this sport when I was young I put together a video of most of my runs at the GP, but it was too big to upload...it would have taken all my GB quota for the month. What I did notice while putting it all together though, was, first thought, "what crappy runs", but then I noticed that in each run we only made one mistake, costing us a "Q" each time. I did find it a bit more difficult to run with the several layers of clothing I had on The dog had it all together, just that the handler lost it...but we had fun & that's what it is all about & it's good when someone takes a video of your runs so you can play it back later. Can't wait for next year. -
There was a Rally-O demonstration going on while we were at an agility trial last weekend, but I didn't realise it was a demo (thought it was some sort of obedience comp) till it was all over. What I did catch of it, it looked like something I would like to try as it doesn't seem to be as stiff & strict as Obedience comp. & would probably be good for my 7 month old puppy as a lead up to agility. I really don't think there would be anywhere nere me that I could go & learn, so does anyone know of any good "teach-it-yourself" DVD's available. Thanks in advance

Thanks, I will up the shutter speed & try to take in better light. I don't like to up the ISO too much as I feel it makes the pictures grainy....what would you call "too much"??? I like to keep it about no more than 200 or I can see a difference Maybe I am imagining it tho.
