Yes sure they drink half a litre a day LOL its maybe becouse you sell it and advertise it. and they dont want you to look like a liar, give me a break will you that is the bigest bullshit i have heard. I find this post very offensive....I am not a liar. Because I am an agent for Black Hawk, that makes me dishonest...does it I repeat, my two very active border collies who live in a very hot climate & are fed Black Hawk, would not, even on the hottest day drink more than half a litre of water a day. Hmmmmmmm BC's are pretty smart though, mabey they are turning the hose on for each other when I am not looking

My two very active border collies 18 kilos & 23 kilos would be lucky to drink 1/2 litre water a day each, live in a hot climate & get fed Black Hawk. I sometimes wish they would drink more.
-
My two wont eat them any more. If I give them one they will both go away & hide till I remove it

Yep...we do it & can thoroughly recommend it. We get our housesitters through Aussie Housesitters. We now have one couple who keep coming back. It's a great way to go You can be as fussy as you like. We like to get retired couples.

Newbie Question Re; Trialling.
sheena replied to Ben and Jerry's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I put together a page on my website hoping to be able to help people out who want to get started in trialing, as I know when I started it seemed all so foreign to me & I was too embarrassed to ask. Here is the link to the page So You Want to Start Trialing It's mainly to do with agility but I think a lot applies to Obedience as well & I think you use the same forms. :) ETA....the 18 months minimum age mentioned only applies to agility. -
Struggling With Teach Come.
sheena replied to StaffordLUV's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
She is only 11 weeks old....she should still be on a long line, because if you are not 99% certain she will come to you when called ie if running loose, don't call. Calling her will be falling on deaf ears & just teaching her to ignore you. What other training is she getting???? Get into clicker training/shaping, & you will never look back. Oh, & like others have said, always have really yummy treats on you so you can reward EVERY time she comes to you When she is coming to you on her own accord, say her name & come while she is travelling towards you, then treat & praise when she gets to you. -
You will probably find, that where you had yellow spots before, you will soon have bright green spots  My daughter has had her little old man checked out by the vet & his teeth are pretty good. He is almost blind & has cataracts over both eyes & is almost deaf. But apart from that, he is happy & still gets a little spring in his step sometimes. The staining is coming from his eyes. He would not survive a GA, so she is trying to make his life as comfortable as possible till that big sad day comes

Just Curious......but wondering if XP3020 are paid advertisers on DOL That last post, which we have had before on the other XP3020 thread, a bit long winded for someone merely making a comment or offering an opinion

My daughters Maltese has a lot of facial staining. How much ACV would you add to say, a litre of water. I assume you would use the best one from a health food shop, not the cheapies you find in supermarkets. Does it take long to start having an effect? If she were to bath his face in ACV/water, would that help remove the staining....he is very old. I am probably moving off the thread a bit here...sorry BC. Maybe I should start a new thread :)

Jumping, Lead Pulling And Excitement Issues
sheena replied to tanstaff's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
And teach him not to sniff. It's all very easy. Again clicker training makes this & so many other shaping behaviours so much easier. If your dog is being good & then suddenly not being good & ignoring you, then you have gone too far, too quick & made the whole "you must do as I say" thing too hard for him. You have set him up to fail. How many times do you call your dog when he doesn't respond to you? You should only call ONCE, then if he doesn't react, go get him & put him on the leash. If you got yourself a clicker & learnt how to use it, & how to shape behaviours (it's not rocket science) you might surprise yourself how quickly your dog catches on & how much fun it becomes. ;) -
Me neither. We are on 200 acres, but we have 1/2 acre fenced around the house & that is where the dogs run. When we take them for walks, we only let one off at a time, then they are less likely to go chasing a kangaroo or cows (ours). If they are free to run together, the younger one instigates a game of zoomies which is not at all safe around barb wire fences.

There was a bit of a discussion about this on the BH thread some months ago, My dogs have no problems but I emailed Sherel (BH) & this is her reply (quote) There is no added salt to the BlackHawk formula, I personally like my dogs to drink water, do people forget the body is made up of 80% water. Water is also used by the body to keep toxins from building up in the body, and highly recommended for keeping the kidneys flushed, Some dog food formulas are high in moisture content so dogs wont drink so much BlackHawk formulas are middle of the scale for moisture on finished product, (end of quote) It makes sense to me, but check out the other thread I gave you on that other stuff, get a sample & try it. I am sure there would be better foods out there though than that one...it's cheap enough, if that is what is important.

Email one of the suppliers closest to you & they should be able to either send you out a sample or sell you a small amount to try. Contacts are listed HERE

Jumping, Lead Pulling And Excitement Issues
sheena replied to tanstaff's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What tricks do you do with him??? Do you do any clicker/treat training with him??. Do you know how to "shape" his behavour using a clicker??? Have you heard of the LAT Game (Look At That) Game. Do a search on this forum & quite a bit will come up about it. You can't expect an instructor to work miricles with your dog when they have so many other students. You go to training, so you can then go home & practice at home, in the park, down the street, wherever. Too many people take their dogs to training once in a while, or every week, then forget about it again till next time, without doing their homework, then blame the instructor or the school Take a look at LAT & get into shaping. -
There was a thread started on that a little while ago Here Personally, for reasons others have said, I wouldn't even consider it. I'm a convert to Black Hawk Holistic

My BC Girl will do this sometimes if she or another dog have just enjoyed a nice bone. She will squat & wee wherever the bone has been chewed & sometimes that happens to be on on a bed or in a kennel, or just on the grass, if that is where the smell of the bone is. So now I don't give her any juicy bones to chew on her bed etc or she will mark the spot. I think she only started doing this when we got another dog, so she is marking her territory.

I wish I had had my Sensible harness on my BC girl last night at training. She normally is quite well behaved..she used to be the biggest fruitcake & quite the Tasmanian Devil at training & trials until I trained her with the LAT game. But for some reason last night, there was a new dog there & she just was so hard to control in a flat collar. Eventually the new BC lunged at her & caught me daydreaming, she lunged back & I almost lost my finger which got caught in the lead. From now on, I will have her in her harness. Apart from my injury, I am sure that when a dog, out of the blue, spins & lunges, the harness would be a lot kinder on her body than a flat collar. I will give it a try next weekend (trial) & see how she goes. I will just take it off for her runs.

My young BC guy, reluctantly lets me put Frontline Plus down his back line, (if the treat is good enough) but as soon as I have finished he has a frantic roll as if trying to rub it off. He does the same with Advantix, so I was wondering if it maybe stung him a little.

Does anyone know how to immediately get rid of those annoying adds that come on every time I click on a Crufts Youtube. I have a fairly slow (by some standards) internet & limited download. I would love to watch the crufts, but am buggered if I am going to sit through 1 1/2 minutes of adds each time, first. Help anyone

Day 4 & I hardly needed the leash at all this morning. She even did a perfect table with an instant drop & didn't even look at the pup when he jumped up on the table too. Now, when he comes running up, she completely ignores him & goes racing back off to OH. We are both using very yummy treats

If your dog got out & caused an accident, I guess they would check the ID chip & you could be liable for any damages/injuries.....I guess Being on a farm, we have to have liability insurance in case a cow or calf gets out on the road & causes damages or injury.

Our BC puppy has just turned one. I have already posted this on the Border Collie thread & on Facebook, but thought I would like to share it with my other doggie friends. What a fun year we have had with this "little" guy. He has brought us so much joy & laughter, as well as being such a great playmate for our older dog, Bindi. I thought it only fitting to make a video to celebrate the first year of his life & may he have many, many more. The music I have chosen for the video is "Thank You for The Music" by Abba. He has been such a joy to train. The last little clip, taken last week, is his first introduction to proper jumps. We have been training him with just poles & will continue to do so till he stops growing. Here it is

Barking And Anti-bark Collars
sheena replied to Michelleva's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If she is clicker trained, you could try playing the LAT game with her . It is a game that counter-conditions the dog to stimuli in it's environment -
I had a similar light bulb go off just this week. My BC girl is not very good at strategic pairs, even though she has managed to get into the next level. Her problem is that she thinks the other dog running on the same course as her, is there to be rounded up & "I can hear mum yelling at me, but she doesn't know how important it is that I don't let this one get away" . So this week I thought I would do some serious training with her. Hubby down one end, playing with the pup & me up the other end practicing contacts. As soon as she saw the pup having fun, it was, pick up the nearest leaf in her mouth & run off to round up the pup. Of course in frustration I yelled at her & she stuck her finger up at me, leaving me feeling cranky with myself for raising my voice. Then in my head if I put her on a lead, then she can't run off. Started again & this time when she wanted to run off, I said nothing, just gently turned her around & repeated the exercise, clicking, treating & praising her for doing it right, & after a couple of minutes I could run her off lead & she took no notice of the playing puppy. After that she was fine, it was as if she didn't understand that she had to stay with me & stay focused. Now every morning I start her off with her on lead while hubby plays with the pup & within 30 seconds she is all mine She just didn't understand until then. Good training for the pup too...if he comes running up my end hoping for a treat, I ignore him & he runs back to OH.
