At 6.39pm you said you were giving her earthborn Holistic & sticking to it , now you are saying if she doesn't keep liking it you will give her royal canine. Just out of interest, how many different brands of kibble do you now have at your place that poor little dogs stomach must be very confused.

Where's the "Like" button :)

Thanks NSCleo...it hasn't been an easy road with her as she is a "motion reactive" dog & twelve months ago I had trouble keeping her from leaving the ring & wanting to chase the dog in the next ring But I have been working with her with a controversal program called "Look At That" & now I am so proud of her. Out of twelve runs last weekend there were only two, where we had no hope of qualifying, her only problem now is ME. I know this is a little sorry.

There you go....eight whole pages of advise & MTS goes & gets her advise from a salesperson from a pet shop I feel so sorry for that poor little whippet which she is hell bent on experimenting on. I think maybe MTS likes to hear the sound of her own voice

More fool us for keeping the thread going

Strange that my two BC's do so well on it. The girl is 19 kilos & the young boy is 23 kilos & VERY active. They get a cup full each a day plus 100g of meat or tinned fish & in the mornings they get 1/2 a turkey neck & if anything, I have to keep a watch that they don't put weight on. I am very happy the way my two are going on BH....here is a picture of my girl with her stash from last weekends agility trial :) & their poos are a real delight to pick up & only twice a day & hardly any smell

Seriously....I would personally rather sit down to a lovely bowl of rolled oats or creamed corn on toast than a plate of boring old mashed potato any day. Why would it be any different to dogs ??? Why are you finding it so hard to feed your dogs...really is it all that complicated??? My two very active border collies 19 kilo & 23 kilo get a cup of Black Hawk Kibble at night with either 100g of meat or fish, & either a raw egg yolk or coconut oil. In the mornings they get half a turkey neck. I don't try to complicate their food. My girl has NEVER farted in public, she is just too well mannered. The young boy has farted twice in the car in the last twelve months...but then again that's a boy thing :) You must have a lot of bags of kibble at your place. Probably the only thing wrong with your Missy is that your are changing her food too often & too quickly. Those pictures you put up of her in another thread...she looks pretty healthy to me, if not a little overweight for a whippet. But that's just my opinion & I know you will not take any notice of it anyway. Decide what you are going to feed Missy & stick to it. Your other dogs are obviously quite happy with what they get.

That sounds about right. At 500g per frame that would work out to $3 per kilo which is the standard price at butchers and supermarkets. If you buy by the box you'll probably get them cheaper again. How much are you feeding her? Don't you have a Leonards there? They're usually cheaper. No leonards here, Raw food I can get her to eat 1 cup in the morning 1 cup at night, With kibble I'm lucky to get her to eat 3/4 cup with alot of encourgement. Even when I first got her she wasn't overly keen on kibble. With a really top quality kibble, 3/4 cup is all she should be getting along with a raw meaty bone.

Feeding Breakfast Before A Trial
sheena replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks...we should have had another 3 Qualies added to that except for handler error that caused her to drop a bar in Masters Agility, a 1/2 second over time in Excellent Jumping & my "blind spot" caused her to miss the entry jump to the Gamble. The best weekend we have ever had. I took along some home made beef stock & added it to her drinking water & she would drink as much as I was willing to give her to keep her hydration levels up -
Border Collie Breeders Recommendations?
sheena replied to bossyboo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I couldn't be happier with the boy I got from Dunwurkn Border Collies at Gympie. She breeds performance dogs, but all her dogs (mine included) have a lovely personality. She puts a lot of work into her pups with their social training before the age of 8 weeks & the difference between him & my Bojak girl is amazing. My Dunwurkn guy has been so easy to train & is 100% healthy. Mind you I love my Bojak girl & she is my soul mate & we are doing great work together now. :) Allison from Dunwurkn, does prefer her pups to go to performance homes & you will have to go on a waiting list. -
Feeding Breakfast Before A Trial
sheena replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Bindi is enjoying her breakfasts before the trials :...this weekend NSW Northern Regional 1st in SPDX & Q, 2nd & 3rd place, Q & Title in JDX, 2nd place & Q in Masters Agility & 3rd in Masters Agility. Here she is looking very tired :) -
Found out today that the judge should have added an extra 50 mm for the base of the measuring stick...so all dogs yesterday had to get a new card. That makes him 545 mm with still two months to go till he can be officially measured.

I Finally Made My Own Raw Food
sheena replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I know Erny my parents are complaining on how much time and effort and specially money I spend on the dogs. They always saying why don't you just feed a simple kibble, Well Nissy my whippet does horrible farts on black hawk and thats classed a premium food. My parents want me too feed supermarket food, If missy farts bad on black hawk I would hate to see what she would do on cheap supermarket food. I think its the lamb meat in the black hawk causing her bad farts but can't be sure. Missy handles pork, chicken, turkey, beef and roo prefectly fine either that or it's cause the food is cooked. If I could find a kibble that would agree with Missy I would probably use it, but in the long run I could be spending more on kibble then on raw. I eat Garlic, makes my breath stink but its good for me, I eat eggs they make my farts stink but they are good for me, I eat Bake Beans and boy they make my farts stink, yet they are good for me, so why isn’t my dog allowed to fart ? or burp ? its ok for all other animals to do so ? cows and methane ?? I would have thought that farting was a healthy part of life  -
I had Cricket measured today by a judge just for practice & he came in at 495 How could that be...he is a monster & towers over Bindi who was measured at 510. Thinking maybe I should just get a few judges to practice measure him, then choose the one that suits  This judge first measured in front of his shoulder bones then behind them, I thought it had to be on his withers which I thought was the hump above his shoulder.

I have one of those....the large size & I bought it from PetStock

That one I put the link to above on Ebay is only $96.00. My biggest worry about putting them on a table is them jumping off..but I guess it's like everything, they have to be conditioned to it..ie..value has to be put on the table. ATM my young guy wont even let me brush him even with a soft bristle brush. Down along his back is sort of OK but as soon as I try to do his sides or neck he snaps at my hand. His tail has dreds in it so I will have to something with him soon....Im working on it, but I don't want to get nipped maybe I should wear a glove. Just a thought Sheena but I am in the process of getting Stella used to wearing a plastic muzzle as our last vet visit was a complete disaster. She got herself really worked up & lashed out at our vet biting him on the face Not good at all The only reason he still has his nose is cause she is an overshot girl & can't quite get a really good grip. Thank god ! It all happened so quickly, even took the vet by total surprise as I have not had any trouble in the past with her going to the vets. Anyway was just thinking you may be able to try your boy with one & gradually edge him in to grooming that way. At least he won't be able to nip you. Just trying to help :) Is this the sort of muzzle you have Plastic muzzle

Just trying to help :) good idea....I was going to try this to stop him chewing his seat belt & the leather car upholstery when we took him on his first long trip without the crate, but someone suggested he might freak out so I spent the whole trip watching him. OH did the driving. Took my eyes off him for 2 minutes & he chewed his lovely new seat belt that I got for him all the way from America.

Thanks everyone for your replys...some good ideas to digest there :)

My Mum's Abyssinian is on it & she is looking great. She is not overly fussed on it, but then she is not fussed on any thing, but it is agreeing with her. She also gets a little bit of kangaroo mince.

I know if my dog got out on the road & caused an accident I would be sued for everything I own. But...yes...you can't get blood out of a stone. But if the owners of the dogs were liable, they would still have to pay up/pay off, or go bankrupt.

I normally groom my dogs on the ground or at best on a bed, but it is getting increasingly hard on my back. I was thinking of getting one of those large metal framed card tables from Bunnings. I think they are probably about 1m x 1m & are very strong. The down side would be that maybe they are too big & the dog could escape from me to the other side  & the plastic coating would'nt last long, but then I could replace it with a non slip cover. Also I could drill some holes in it to attach racks ect to hold my tools etc. But I was also looking at this one on Ebay Stainless Steel Grooming Table What do others use :)

Never heard of it - what is it exactly?? Do a bit of Googling :) (quote)From the website NotMilk.com, an educational website from the Dairy Education Board, Executive Directory Robert Cohen has some very negative things to say about carrageenan. His article states “Carrageenan is a commonly used food additive that is extracted from red seaweed by using powerful alkali solvents. These solvents would remove the tissues and skin from your hands as readily as would any acid.” When addressing whether carrageenan is natural, this author states “Carrageenan is about as wholesome as momosodium glutamate (MSG), which is extracted from rice, and can equally be considered natural. Just because something comes from a natural source does not mean that it is safe. The small black dots in the eyes of potatoes contain substances that are instantly fatal if eaten. Got poison? You will if you eat the black dots on the “eyes” of potatoes.” (I must learn about those black dots…)(end of quote) for the rest of the report Carrageenan in Pet Food
