I was giving my two...average of 20 kilos....one tablespoon a day on their food. So probably about one & a half tablespoons, but introduce it slowly. They really don't mind the taste :)

why on earth would you give your dogs a different food if they were doing so well on BH? To give them a completely different taste from lamb..I got the fish one. So what's so funny about that Are you calling me a liar or something. And at $82 for 6 kilos, I certainly wont be buying it again, especially if it makes their poos so sloppy I can't pick them up & the smell is so vile. I feel so sorry for your poor dogs...no variety in taste, seeing you have been using the same food with them since they were concieved.

Where would I find that? At the health food shop :)

You could also try a tablespoon of cold pressed organic coconut oil daily on his food....can work wonders not just with his coat but with other "old age" problems. Just make sure you get the proper one from the health food shop.

My two border collies have been on Black Hawk now for two years & they are lovely & fit, well muscled, absolutely no itching or skin problems. Coats are a little dry, but that's because they swim daily in the family pool, then sit in the sun to get dry & I don't rinse the pool water (Chlorine) off them. Only two poos a day & nice & firm...couldn't be happier. I thought I would give them a bit of a change, so last week bought a 6 kilo bag of Earthborn Holistic Coastal Catch ($82) & have been mixing a little of that in with their BH. Their poos are now sloppy & smelly but I will give it a bit longer before I make a decision on it.

I was just searching Ebay & found someone is selling three unopened bottles of Proban (50 tablets). Thought someone here might be interested Proban on Ebay They expire Dec 2012, so no good to me

These are Goji berries & I am referring to the pitted & dried variety. They are about 1/3 rd the size of a dried cranberry. I eat them all the time & put them in cookies etc & have never found a pip. They are not really a stone fruit, more like a blueberry.

They are commercially dried so I doubt if they would contain pips.

My girl just discovered that she just 's my dried Goji berries. I only gave her a couple but she immediately starting performing tricks to get me to give her more. When she carries on like that it usually means that she has given something the tick of approval. :laugh: I googled it & a couple of sites said NO & many more others said YES. What do others think & if they are OK, then how many would be too many???

Sorry to sound a bit blunt....but you have won a $90 plus bag of premium dog biscuits. You are complaining about the small size of the kibble which is the same size as a LOT of Premium Dog Foods & you are almost willing your dogs to get sick on it. If you are so worried about the size of the kibble & are so worried about your dogs getting sick on it then show us where your heart is & donate it to a rescue centre....I sure they would appreciate it. For every dog that it doesn't agree with, like all kibbles, there are hundreds that thrive on it.

Advantix...apply it to several spots on the skin along their back & keep them out of the water for 48 hrs afterwards. You will still have to check them daily at least.

I havn't read the whole post, but I am just wondering why you have called it "out" & not "give" or "ta". I guess you can call it anything you like, but to me & my dog "out" means to move away from me & I use "ta" to ask her to give me what is in her mouth. I think you could probably fix this problem if you clicker trained your dog & taught it some tricks via "shaping", then you could "shape" it to give you back the toy/object.

I have a lovely one of those growing right next to the dwarf oleander & the dogs do zoomies around them. I don't really see why a dog would bother to eat it or the leaves from any other bush as long as they have some good grass to nibble on. A good idea for dogs is to plant some Cat Grass...they love it. Maybe put some in a pot & get it established. I have seen a dog with toxicity from Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - it had eaten a bunch of seed pods (edit: apparently berries - all the parts of the plant are toxic but in this case we were identifying things in faeces!). Never say they'd never eat anything stupid, but in this case it was a Labrador, so maybe that explains everything. I've also seen a small dog (Maltese x) come very close to losing it's life after eating a few leaves from a Kalanchoe plant. I'm not sure of which species in particular but it was a succulent variety - they seems to be very popular at Bunnings too. I didn't think of the berries.... I think I might dig mine out just to be on the safe side.

It was bait. Still don't know how. It has just made me really paranoid about keeping the dogs safe and one reason that I moved. So when the guy told me 2 dogs had died here I flipped out a bit. I haven't worried too much about plants in the past as so many are poisonous. So I was just wondering if other people considered plants. Was just about to plant tomatoes which are poisonous! Probably the only way to make sure if you are really paranoid is to have absolutely no garden at all, but then there are the grasses which can be "poisonous" at different stages of their growth. Also a lot of plants that are classed as poisonous are not deadly, they just make the dog feel off colour or give it the runs. I have never seen a dog eat tomato plants. In fact I have never seen a dog eat any plant other than grass. I know they will eat fruit. With the bait, I suppose it could have been possible that a crow could have dropped it or a neighbour may have been baiting carrots for rabbit control. Which ever way, it was tragic & if it happened to me, I would be paranoid too Can you divide your yard into two & have one half for the dogs & the other for your garden.

we just have the ol pink ones ..but modern varieties are just gorgeous! :) I have oleanders growing in the garden & have some lovely ones giving shade for the chooks & a lovely row of double perfumed ones along my front fence. I have seen them used as wind breaks around cow paddocks. I heard once that they are so bitter that nothing would touch them & also that they are mostly toxic if the wood is burnt. I have never had a problem & have never heard of a case of deadly poisoning from them. My chooks even cleaned up every part of my four lovely rhubarb plants Jules, did you find out for certain if it was a plant that killed Brock, I thought at the time you thought it may have been a bait. Tassie, your dogs eat all those lovely apples pips & all.

I am a keen gardener, so I am sure I have heaps of poisonous plants, but I don't worry too much. I was pretty watchful when the young one was just a puppy, but the only thing he eats is grass. We have had many dogs in the past & have never had one case of garden poisoning. I have heaps of wandering jew around also, & they never get a rash. Maybe border collies are tough. At the moment my girl is filling herself up with mulberries straight off the tree, she doesn't even let them ripen first. And I think you will find Minimax that it is Wandering Jew. A water pistol or spray bottle fired at the very same time as a very firm "ugh" (growl). Worked well with both my border collies who are angels now when it comes to not barking even though they both love water, they don't like it being fired at their face.
