Fly is looking great Vickie...can't wait to see her in action next year. I guess she will be competing with Cricket, or is she a 400 ?

I am in Exc. & finding the time really tight. Bindi & I are making it but only just. I am dreading having to go into Masters....I will have to get myself a bit fitter & lose a bit of weight Seems I make that new year's resolution every year  Maybe I should "do it for the dog" :)

Biggest thing in snooker is to be able to get your dog to run PAST obstacles which it would normally take, which is a bit hard for dogs that are very obstacle focused. I have taught my girl that when I call her to "side" that she comes to my side & runs with me past the obstacles till I give her another command. It works most times...I just have a bit of trouble making the SCT (set course time)

I think 12 poles in the closing sequence is a bit mean too, even though I had a few when I was in novice. Think I will just put a contact in the Novice & give the next group up the weaves. After all it is mainly an exercise to teach the group how to run Snooker & what the rules are...don't want to frighten them off. :)

Thanks Le Are there any particular obstacles that you would put into most of your snooker courses...like 12 weave poles etc, or can it be just any of the obstacles.

I want to put a few ANKC Snooker courses together for my Novice/Intermediate agility class. I have plenty of normal courses but my mind has gone a blank on this one. Anyone know where I can get hold of a couple of course maps ?

I have a friend who's baby (child)had a blocked tear duct, she cleared it by gently massaging it. My young BC boy had a blocked tear duct for most of his first four months (could have been six...I forget now). The vet had him booked in for a general Anaeshetic (sp?) but in the meantime I started using a head harness on him & within a week, the tear duct had cleared & his eye was no longer weeping. The only thing I can think of, was that the harness where it fits over the nose was gently massaging under his eye. It has never weeped since :) So you could try some very gently massage maybe.

I bought a couple of Skudos which work on a different system...they are a little ultrasonic tag that goes on the collar & lasts for a year. They are made in Italy & I got them from Amazon. I use them as a backup to the Advantix or Frontline Plus Spot On (whichever one I am using). Do they work??? Well all I can go on is that the boy lost his in the first couple of weeks & we have pulled two bad ticks off him recently. My girl wears hers all the time except for when she is swimming & she has been tick free, not even any grass ticks, but she does spend a whole lot more time inside than the boy.

Lets just face it....houses that have indoor dogs DO smell. I am sure mine does but I am so used to it that I can't smell it myself, but for somebody not used to dogs the smell can be a little revolting. We don't get many visitors, probably because to them, our house smells, but if we are having visitors, I vacuum, clean, make sure all the dog beds are washed & I will spread a bit of deoderiser on my carpet before I clean. They are my guests & I feel it is my duty as a good host to make my house as comfortable as possible for them. If I was not prepared to do this then I wouldn't invite them in the first place. While my visitors are here, my dogs are kept away if they do not want to interact...dogs don't mind.. & probably don't care that they are kept outside or in their own rooms. I am sure my car also smells to others & my swimming pool has hairs floating all over the top, but if I invite someone to swim in my pool, then I make sure I keep the dogs out till after the humans have swum.

The breeder did a good job selecting breeding pairs with sound nerve. Storm phobias and fearful behaviour like this is genetic........such a shame to see so many dogs suffer at the hands of breeders who dismiss phobia as a genetic flaw. She also played the pups one of those "sound" CD's...so I think they were all pretty much desentisized to all sorts of loud & disturbing noises

Apart from cats....I can't understand why you allow him to chase & play with wildlife like lizards...so very stressful for them. Also even if another dog is "nice" or "grumpy" it is still bad manners to just let your pup run up to them & jump all over them uninvited. I would be teaching him some manners & especially protecting my wildlife

My young BC boy is not at all fazed by noises & the loudest thunder storm...he will just sleep through the lot, thanks to the work his breeder put into her puppies when they were little. But my older BC girl is completely different. The thunder shirt does nothing for her, probably because I think, that instead of being frightened by the storm, she trys to fight it. Best thing for her is to put her in her crate, covered except for the front. She soon settles & goes to sleep :)

I feed turkey necks & turkey wings to my guys & they love them. I also feed chicken drumsticks but they prefer the turkey. I have never fed turkey drumsticks only because they could be too big a meal for my guys. I have gone right off feeding lamb bones as last week my girl chucked up all the food that she had had that day & amongst it were very sharp pieces of lamb bone from where she had had lamb brisket that morning They also get meaty beef neck (soup) bones, which keep them occupied for ages.

I don't let them lick my face or legs, but sometimes it happens if I am not quick enough....dogs seem to have such long, quick tounges  I don't like the feel of it...I find dog saliva very sticky.

Sorry, you're not the only one! I have confused myself and now I don't actually know!! Just went and checked an email from my local supplier (agility club) and it's Earthborn Holistic Ocean Fusion grain free. I pay $85 for 12kg. What is the frequent buyer program? Any idea on what sort of savings? We get a discount through our agility club so just wondering if this discount is comparable! Thanks :D Boy...that's cheap....at my local supplier it is $82 for 6 kilos

When we got our border collie pup, we started the moment we got him home with "no lifting over the top" rule & also "no patting from over the top". He also had to wait till given the OK when his door was open. He never jumped out of his enclosure, but we did have to make something a bit more solid & permanent as he got older. OH put a nice bit of wooden fence with a gate across a section of the enclosed veranda & he still waits for the OK when his gate is opened & he has the most remarkable start-line-stay...which he does test at times when he gets too excited at agility etc.

My two dogs "play fight"..the growling, the rounding each other up & the punching with the left hook is their way of playing, cause they are best of buddies. It only happens when we are with them & of course we keep an eye on it & if it gets a little out of hand, we stop it. We don't let them do it when other dogs are around & we don't let them play with other dogs either.
-
I think the mistake a lot of people make with new puppies & playpens, is that they don't actually make a proper door in the playpen. Instead they put the pup in & take him out by lifting him over the top. Pups are pretty smart & it doesn't take them long to work out that the way out is over the top
