Hasn't need the 4th Transfusion as his count is stable at 18. We have a couple of lovely people willing to donate the blood from their greyhounds if necessary. OMG their are some nice people in this world
-
I sent out for help on our dog club FB page & the response was overwhelming. We have a donor & they are testing his blood now & if that is not suitable then we have a greyhound lined up for the morning. Evidently greyhounds have a very neutral blood type. So fingers & paws crossed as I feel this will be his last chance to pull through. It is times like this that pet insurance would have come in handy.
-
His levels have dropped again & the vets are talking a 4th blood transfusion if they can find a donor. It doesn't look too good
-
Thanks everyone, we all have our fingers crossed. Last I heard his count was up to 28

Sorry not sure what the shading is on the post

My daughters little 4 yo dog has been in hospital for 5 days now. At first the vets thought he had either been bitten by a snake or ingested poison. They are now treating him for autoimmune-hemolytic-anemia First two blood transfusions failed but it is now 24 hours since his third transfusion (different donor) & his blood count is now up to 26. This is great news, as we didn't expect him to last this long & hopefully it is up & up from now on. Anyone had experience with this...anything we should know?? They will keep him in for another couple of days

Questions to ask the breeder? Depending on the breed of course, what health & genetic tests have been done on the parents? Is pup going to be on Limited or Mains Register (if neither, run a mile)? What is their policy on taking the pup back if things/circumstances change? Most good breeders will insist that the puppy/dog be returned to them in this case. Questions from Breeder? Have you owned this breed before? Do you have a fenced yard? How high are the fences? Are you prepared to desex your dog if on Limited Register. How much time will you put into training/hanging out with the dog? Will the dog be alone all day? Heaps more...

Have you checked out the puppies for sale on this site? Not saying you wont get a good pup from Gumtree etc, you could get lucky, but if you are after a pure bred pup, then DogzOnline would be the first place to look

What else is she getting besides the kibble??....treats? or raw meaty bones? if so what type?
-
I wonder why she recommends grain free? I might be wrong (more than likely) but I would think that if a pup is raised on grain free & even its mum was on grain free, then when it does get to eat normal food which contains some grains, its digestive system doesn't know how to cope with a bit of grain. I have my 4 month old BC puppy on Meals for Mutts Puppy (turkey, salmon & sardine & it contains some grains) for one meal & training, plus at night he gets a raw puppy patty & a cooked egg. I am going to keep him on the puppy for twelve months as recommended by my vet.

Yes...at almost 16 weeks he is 11.5 kilo. Long legs & big feet & a beautiful confident nature

A big day out today, first a puppy play date, the a trip to Bunnings to buy some screws....lots of pats & cuddles. I think he wants to go again LOL
-
He is loving it, but it is like trying to fill a bottom-less-pit at the moment

Firstly I must say that this is such a great baby, confident, fast learning, loves his day puppy pen, where he goes after exercising/playing with the other dogs. I feed him in there & there are lots of great toys, which I rotate. At the moment he is playing with his favourite (& most expensive..not) empty water bottle. He has a different crate for night time, not far from my bed. No toys in there except his snuggle lambie with the beating heart, a kong & lambs wool blanket. ...night crate is for sleeping. At first he took a while to settle & one night he wet the bed. For the past week I have been putting on puppy relaxation music via my Ipod to a blue tooth speaker up high & behind his crate. He settles immediately as soon as I start the music. It is mainly piano with nature/bird sounds that I got off Spotify. Because I have to listen to it too, I thought I would try him with some Andria Bocceli music. Nope...he didn't like it but as soon as I put the other one on he settled immediately. Just thought I would share this with anyone who has trouble getting their pup or adult dog to settle...try some puppy music Time will tell whether it makes a difference to his development or not, being a border collie

Unfortunately no Costco near us. I did find these people online though that deliver to Coffs Harbour, but havn't tried them yet https://rawandfresh.com.au/products/multi-bulk-pack-dog I am just a little unsure about the puppy patties that I am getting from Petstock, only being 14% protein which is the same as the adult patties. -
That's a lot of protein...does she get vegies as well? I would be asking the vet to do a blood test for kidneys

I have just had a good clean out of the freezer. I am going to make chicken stock out of the necks & stick to the frozen turkey necks that the other dogs get. Thanks Rebanne -

You can't wrap your dogs in cotton wool, just in case 1 in a million has a reaction to raw chicken. You just have to see the rubbish they eat when they are running free around the farm. They need to build up an immunity to things & eliminating things from their diet could possibly mean a problem down the track when they get hold of some raw chicken that has been contaminated. It is the same with people. Now when we are pregnant we are told to avoid all these different types of food (it never happened in my days, we just ate what we liked & ate sensibly). Now you have all these kids & young adults are growing up with allergies & sensitivities to certain foods. That's just my opinion, by the way...not backed up by scientific evidence, just observation -

I always go back to thinking how dogs are able to bury a bone, be it chicken, beef, turkey or whatever & dig it up several days later & eat it with no consequences. My dogs eat all sorts of rubbish when out walking in the bush...all different sorts of poo, bird, animal or bat. Cricket does get the runs on rare occasions after we have been to the beach . I think I would be more careful about the choking hazard -

For the first time in my life I have bought chicken necks. It is always turkey necks that I buy. Sometimes I buy chicken drumsticks if I can't get the turkey necks, but I feed them frozen. I was going to feed the chicken necks to the pup, frozen to reduce the chance of choking. Does not freezing for an extended period kill these baddies?? What about the raw chicken in the puppy food ? -

I bought Cricket some of the Big Dog Rabbit & he loves it, but I added a bit of fresh fish to it to make it more of a meal. Tonight he will get his kibble. -

I bought some Leading Raw patties for Puppies, but they are only 14% protein. Is this high enough to feed to a growing pup? I will only be one meal a day, the rest will be puppy kibble
