  1. Well you'll probably find quite a variety of opinion on this here on DOL - personally I'd get the best quality dry food you can afford - perhaps Royal Canin - but obviously the puppy food version appropriate for pup's breed. You can buy good quality dog foods from places like Petstock, MegaPet Warehouse, All4Pets, etc - none of these are pet stores that sell animals, they are pet supplies store so good to support. Rather than supplement with tinned food, I supplement with puppy milk, raw eggs, tinned sardines and then all sorts of dog treats, personally. But it's really up to whatever your pup thrives on x
  2. Nearly 6 months means she could be almost getting too old to learn bite inhibition* and I do hope you've already socialised her sensibly but thoroughly by this age... *ETA my mistake, she could actually be teething!
  3. APBT, are your pups vaccinations up to date? Her worming? It's important to know your age of your pup, not only so you know the appropriate behaviour to expect and training methods to use, but also because your pup needs vaccinations and can't be out in public until after a certain vaccination. It's also good to know the important socialisation periods and when your dog will be in fear periods. Maybe try to stay up to date with your dog's age and research the different stages dogs go through every few weeks for the first few months of life.
  4. Are you sure it's related to the pup being sleepy and not related to the pup being on the couch (or bed?) As I understand it, in doggy heirarchy, lower dogs all sleep in each others' beds but nobody is allowed in alpha dog's bed except alpha dog. It's pretty common for a dog to become protective over a certain couch and not allow others to get on it or remove the dog from it. All related to dominance. Reassert your dominance and put the dog back in its place and hopefully it will be problem solved x
  5. Oh thank you!!! I bet she would love it! Pity she's on heat at the moment Oh well - next year! Are they allowed to sled while pups anyway, or have to be over 18 months?
  6. Ooohh is there anything like this in Victoria??? x
  7. I thought this was normal practice to teach at puppy class? We went through the whole touching feet, looking in mouth, ears, running hands all over dog's body, etc in puppy class - eventually the pups were tested by having to allow others owners to touch them the same way as their own.
  8. Standard TFP (time for prints) agreement = agreed upon number of web res files with photographers copyright on them for non-commercial use only, and agreement to provide any prints requested at cost price. This is how it works with human models updating their portfolio, anyhoo x
  9. My experience has been that training kelpies, blue heelers, labs, GSDs and working dog crossbreeds is the easiest (all family members' or friends' dogs I've trained / help train.) Training my BullMastiff cross was more challenging as she was very stubborn. Then training my Akita has been the most challenging as she is too smart, gets bored too easily, and uses her powers for evil instead of good However individual dogs' personalities and experiences effect them as much as breed too of course.
  10. What the? $400+ for one dog? What did this include? Well to be fair that was Kia's vet. Kia was larger than Saki, so that does explain some of the price difference, and also, as mentioned by another DOLer above, Kia had a geriatric blood screening done from the age of 8 as part of her annual check up too. So normal annual checks + geriatric blood screening + vaccinations for 45kg dog = $400+ I still do think that was rather overpriced though!
  11. Same sort of checks as above - visual check; poking and feeling check, checking eyes, ears, teeth, paws, tummy, etc; & asking about general habits & health of dog - & then annual vaccinations. Prior vet charged $400+ for annual check up. New vet charges around $150. I like the new vet much better!
  12. Saki at 9 weeks: (6.5kg) Saki at 1 year: (33kg, 24")
  13. Awww this is a great thread! Kia at 8 weeks: Kia at 13 years: (45kg, 29ish") RIP beautiful girl x
  14. Oh no how scary, big hugs to you and I hope it all turn out ok!

    Obsession.

Gosh when my nieces and nephews are over, they continually feed Saki treats, to the point where I have to be rather strict to make them stop - feeding her treats all day isn't good for her! And just because Saki hangs them around hoping for the next treat, that does NOT mean that my little neices and nephews are 'better with dogs' or 'give her more respect' than me - what an odd conclusion to jump to. In fact when Saki gets sick of being smothered by them she will come to me to rescue her. However doesn't stop her going right back to them for more treats later! Rish, make sure you're not rewarding bad behaviour by yourself giving extra treats or cuddles or attention to MinMin when she's hanging around your daughter or scratching the door. Wait until she's quiet /not scratching on the door / not annoying your daughter before you call her to you for attention, and wait until she's focused on you before you give her a treat (whether food or a toy.)

    Obsession.

I think that would definitely be a big part of it!!!

    Obsession.

LOL Trish I wouldn't take it too seriously or too personally, some dogs are just like that - very interested in newcomers. I'm sure MinMin stills feels the same about you as ever, she's just interested in your daughter because your daughter seems new and interesting! My dog is the same when I have friends or family staying in the spare room - I'm just boring old me who she sees every day, so she follows the new person around constantly. My dog usually sleeps on my bed too, but if there's someone staying in the spare room she'll sleep in the corridor where she can keep an eye on both my bedroom door and the spare room door so she can keep track of both of us. And my dog is a total wuss and a mummy's girl yet she still does this. So I don't think you have any worries with MinMin. As long as you are still the one feeding, training and walking MinMin; rather than your daughter, MinMin will still view you as the pack leader and of course love you just as much x
  18. Awww from over here too, love those sorts of stories, even more than the agility and stuff  x
  19. Oooh thanks for posting! For some reason even with the volume all the way up, the audio is still really low - but the video streaming quality is fantastic! Go doggies, go! x
  20. oh, you are precious aren't you How many times did you have to scrutinize the thread to scrape that together? Any sane person would have made the same conclusions considering the inaccurate and scant information provided. I want one of those violins too Raz, this thread is way past ridiculous. If you are so offended by a different opinion to yours that you have to reply again and again with insults and eye-rolling emoticons just because I refuse to change my opinions to yours, perhaps you should put all of the posts by me, and by anyone else who disagrees with you, on ignore? Everyone has opinions, no-one will agree all the time, no need to take it personally and start insisting that everyone else agrees with you and anyone who doesn't is insane.
  21. Spare you? Actually you suggested she was a liar (fictional vet) and a troll (the T word.) However I never told you off for doing so, just said that I don't personally agree. I have no issue with you or others either questioning the OP or advising her how to better look after her pets. You have the right to your opinion and response and can communicate however you like. However I also have that right. To the OP - you may find things go a bit easier if (a) you make it clear in the title and sub-title of the thread what you are posting about (b) you try to spell and structure your sentences clearly © you can vent all you like but it's always a good idea to take at least partial responsibility if/when you are partly to blame. (Sounds like a dud vet, but also sounds like it would have been better if you'd found the burr right away.) Oh and if you've had enough of this thread you can always ask Troy to delete it x
  22. Ahhh, see now I understand the reaction to the asprin thing, thanks to you for clarifying also Nothing wrong with asking questions, but also nothing wrong with being polite and kind to someone who was clearly expecting sympathy and instead got cynicism. Yes her posts are difficult to follow, but that doesn't necessarily prove her to be a liar or a troll. If "all of the rest of you" all have the same opinion of this particular poster and/or style of communicating, go for it, doesn't worry me. However it doesn't mean I'll necessarily join the bandwagon personally x
  23. Thanks for clarifying I'm not sure why people are surprised the vet pumped your dogs stomach, Saki's emergency vet has calculation charts for things that can be fatal for dogs - depends on the amount eaten and the size of the dog, but if sufficient they'll certainly pump the stomach. Is this not normal? Fair enough you are just having a vent - fairly obvious you are from the thread title - don't worry, everyone who joins DOL experiences through a baptism of fire it seems x
