I live in brissie and yeah when you go out a massive amount of the dogs are staffies just not always purebred but when they do statistics they throw a cross breed in with which ever it looks the closest too. They should have a crossbred section and I bet most attacks would fall in there.

I agree completly pps i have a pitty and a staffy who were let out of my yard and picked up by the pound we thought for sure they would be pts but next day I get a call that I can pick them up. They basicallly told us when we got there that we had them back because of a temp test (and the assesment meant nothing) not saying this is always the case I know some nice dogs that are put down but I'm glad the day my dogs were picked up the assor was in a good mood.

I have a red nose pitty that was picked up by the pound after someone let her out of our yard we were lucky as the council deemed her to be a staffy and gave her back if the law goes on looks alone then my dog would have been put down fight it ask them to temp test the dog (that is what I did and ultimatley why she was returned as she passed with flying colours) I know queensland laws are differnent but surely there has to be a common ground somewhere is she from a registered breeder oy byb at a pinch I would say she looks the same as my girl and is therefore a pitty but if she is even tempered maybe there is a chance.

I have a pitty and a staffy and they are very easilly controlled yes they may get excited but as a female I have no problem controlling them even when they pull a bit. I take both my dogs to the dog park and all I get are compliments on there behaviour and attitude I agree completly that many of these dogs are big sooks as my girls love people and other dogs the only problem I've ever had is when other dogs get aggressive toward my daughter but my dogs will stop with one word many other dogs (mostly the small ones) have to be man handled by there owners and these dogs could easily harm a 4 year old. Why are they not on any lists??????

Thanks all great tips she seems to be getting better and yeah treats are not great tryed a kong and it was destroyed when we got home. She ate it to get the treats. My main prob is still the cloths line thing but I just have to tie her up or make sure she's out on washing days. Thanks again ffor all the great tips

This may have been covered already but I need help. We decided to get a second dog when I started back at work to keep our pitty company during the days (I still walk day and arvo) as she seemed a little restless and overexcited when I got home. This has worked well as she has settled back down. We wanted an older pup so as not to have chewing toilet traing etc issues we found a gorgeous amstaff and they got along really well ex-owner told she was well behaved but they weren't allowed to keep her so we brought her home. First week was great sykes was much happier and the new dog was settling in well then I did the washing for the first time went out and came home to have no clothes on the line she had ripped them all down and torn a few sets up. I was annoyed but ignored it. The next moring I came out to all my cushions off the outdoor chairs ripped to shreds she has also since then eaten a few lighters (which scares me) and all the hose fittings had destroyed my daughter bike (ate the petals, seat and handlebars) Please let me know if you have any ideas as I am at my wits end she is a great dog otherwise good with other dogs and kids. I have tried spraying tabasco sauce on things and it stops for a bit but not long They both get heaps of exercise walked twice a day and go to the dog park or beach on the weekend. Please HELP

I have a pitty who is extremly fussy hardly ate anything we finally figured it out if you take out scrapped (left over meat vegies anything) on a dinner plate she'll eat it if it comes from a can or a bag them no so I started her on dog food just put it on a plate first then acted as though it was left overs (works with dry and wet food) and now she eats all the time, we also got another dog recently who eats anything and have started to not use the plate trick and she will eat so the other dog can't get the food.

Thanks for all the nice comments on the dogs and the get well wishes haven't been on in a while sykes is getting alondg well she managed not to break a bone but had scraped away basically all her ligament but is well on the way to mending she still acts like there is nothing wrong even though she still can't run on the leg (she does try) Qute 74 my dogs were both secured in the back one of the leads streched out and if not for the collar snapping my dog would not have been so badly injured but thakyou for making me fell worse about a bad situation it's really nice of you. My dogs have never had a problem before in the ute and I stopped straight away as I do keep an eye on my dogs!!!!!!!! So far she has been back in the ute quite a few times with no problems accidents happen I have known them to happen to more dogs tied than not however the law states to tie them in so I do. When I lived in the country she was nver tied and never fell out.

I know but most vets I've come across let you know that they know but this one honestley seemed to think she was a staffy I have no prob with them knowing as long as they also are not going to ring anyone cause if they dog they will have the biggest fight on their hands to put her down. What gets me is they have your name address and phone number but if they try and bput her down after charging $1500 to reapir her tendons then I will be really annoyed and even sadder at the human race. You know on a busy road and a single female a child and two dogs stopped and covered in blood not one person stopped or even slowed down makes me wonder what is wrong with people

Yesterday I had a really bad day and came up with some questions. It stared when I went to take my dogs (amstaff and pitty) to the dog park put them in the ute and tied them in as I always however on the way my pitty somehow went over the edge (and no i wasn't speeding) I noticed right away and pulled up but her collar snapped as I stopped and her back leg went under the tyre and ripped it up a bit (just a note on the toughness of the breed she didn't once seem as though she was hurt went around and jumped in the back ready to keep going) I hopwever thought the vet would be a good idea as she was bleeding and I could see bone. It was not pretty on the way all I could think was please be a vet that likes the breed and won't try to have her put down. To my suprise he kept calling her a staffy so I didn't correct him (I have a rednose quite distinctive as a pitty I think) But I'm wondering if anyone else has a pitty that has been repeatably mistaken for a staffy even by petcare professionals. They all admired how quite and tough she was while having a lovely temperment maybe if more people knew what loving quite and strong dogs they were they wouldn't have all this stupidity with BSL.
