Oh my god, I've been stalking the Giday website for a year now. Great sport dog breeder, are you planning any activities with Leo? Hehe I *might* do agility/obedience with him but not sure yet. He is my first own dog (not family dog) so we will see how I go! Breeder said he would be suited to doing agility so she is hoping I will do something with him! He is still being a gorgeous bundle of fun, Im waiting for him to be naughty! oh what a lovely little boy ... my older GSP does agility training with a Giday poodle ... he is a lovely boy to watch going around, he loves agility!

What's Wrong About Giving Dogs Human Names?
FionaC replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I prefer human names for dogs ..... I take it a step further and have developed a process for naming my dogs - it must be a 3 sylable formal name, a shortened version that has a "y" sound at the end and a shortened sharper sounding name - eg Mortimer, Morty, Mort & Archibald, Archie, Arch ... some may say I'm odd (and I'm likely to agree) because I like the 3 name options ... but I enjoy taking the time to find the right name for my boys and both have been named before we even met them and when we did meet them the names were confirmed cause they both really fit their names - and I have a list of names for the future that I like as well My OH named Mort though and initially I wasn't convinced about it - I wanted Montgommery but he was right, Morty is definitely a Morty ...... Archie is a far more common name than Morty - only met 1 other Morty so far and he was a beautiful Rottie .... and another DOL member has a Mort as well (but he's a Chi)... they both have variations on their name we use - Morty the Monsta and Archie NugNug - so they get Monsta and Nug sometimes too ... My axolotals were Antony, Cleopatra and Caesar and Lunar .... the goldfish was Goldie (I was 6) .... and my cat is Talin named after an elf in a book I read as a child - Talin is also known as SpezImo-the-monkey-cat (I have no idea where that came from)..... Those people at the vets were rude .. not worth wasting your time worry about them -
I dunno, everyone thinks Angel's a boy if she's not wearing a girly collar! poor Angel ... no-one ever mistakes my two boys for girls .... its kinda in-your-face ;)

when you've got a shorthaired dog they can wear any colour - gender is not confusing ;)

Supposedly she had about 130 dogs back then after that raid (according to a local ranger), so she's upped her numbers since then. What is she going to do with 130 dogs by February? We will see them dumped at the Port Stephens shelter I'm guessing ..... Raymond Terrace is only minutes away from there

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
FionaC replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I got 3" ones as already had a couple of the 2" ones (thanks Jo) have orange ones that I have put an old sock over for now as dogs struggle to see these, natural canvas and black and white plastic ones and a solid black one. thanks Kath, I'm thinking if your delicate young ladies handle the 3inch ones, my boofhead boys can! -

What size dummies are the GSP owners using? 3inch or 2inch versions? and colour wise and preference? Cabela Retrieving Dummies -
Morty 3/52 .... Link to the collection 52 Weeks of Morty 2011 and one of Archie cause he wanted his time in front of the camera too this morning absolutely loving everyones photos this year they are amazing and your dogs are all so beautiful!

I'll back Pockets on this one - my GSP's love their "cousin" the GSD and they all have a wonderful time together and if we're resorting to cute puppy photos in this discussion how about these ones

no worries .... if you find yourself visiting Maitland let me know and I'll see if our schedules match up - the boys are always up for extra attention and pats ....

training, training, training, training & training should fix a lot of this .... my boys are very different (although they are closely related - their mothers were litter sisters) - one has a lot more drive than the other, both are quite affectionate but in different ways and both are more than happy to spend the day vegging out on the lounge if need be, both are giant sookie-la-las sometimes and othertimes I've seen both get defensive and protective ..... training needs are also very different, Morty has more drive and is more of a challenge - he works amazingly with my OH they have a fabulous connection through their training but he is a very headstrong dog who is constantly challenging what you think of him and where you are aiming your training - when he works for you/with you he is amazing to watch, Archie is softer and I find easier for me to train (doesn't mean I dont' train Morty cause I do as well), he learns quickly but is less challenging .... both have very good recall cause we work on it constantly .... Feel the cold? yeah my two do but we possibly foster that in them as they aren't outside in the cold much so they get used to being at a more constant temperature - but a few of the GSP owners in the subforum are from the snowy areas of the state so they would be ablet o answer that better - although since even mine seem to be happy to jump into the ocean in the dead of winter and swim and surf the waves whilst its like 10 degrees with a freezing cold wind then they can't be too afraid of the cold but they do feel it when they get out ..... Where are you located? I'm happy to introduce you to my boys if you're near Newcastle NSW....

Female GSP would be the right size. Wash and wear coat so minimal grooming, drive varies but you would pick your breeder and pup, does well in dog sports.

Morty 2/52 at the beach (his favourite place) on Friday afternoon here is the flickr link 52 weeks of Morty

sounds like a good set up for a GSP - in fact that much room to move, sounds perfect for any kind of dog ..... why don't you head over to the subforms for each breed and have a chat with the members there - I'm sure in the other threads like the GSP owners we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have....

Why Do You Like The Kinds Of Dogs You Do?
FionaC replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Go the Triple Threats :D  Should that be treats or threats?? sometimes both are applicable. I'd like to say "treats" but threats is far more honest -

I prefer big dogs and short easy coats - and I love the enthusiasm and goofiness of a GSP..... we wanted dogs that would be part of the family, be active and get us into dog sports and these were the perfect breed for us - we will never be without a GSP .... My boys are big sookie-la-la's, Archie in particular is a giant sook but they are also smart as can be, driven (Morty especially) but who also love lounging around in the evenings relaxing I've never been a big fan of the toy breeds in general (although I would have a Tibbie if we ever had to have a small dog), I love the look of the sighthounds but doubt they would really be a good match for us and what we like doing right now (maybe later, my OH would adore a Deerhound), I love the big boofy dogs - DDB, Mastiff's etc but again they aren't the right fit for us ...the gundogs are perfect for us though -
I nearly lost my bag over Christmas! My mother took a real liking to it and attempted to steal it on atleast three occasions. I think I will have to buy her one for her birthday lol

Week 1 of Mortimer (Morty) I had another photo in mind to use until I woke up to this afternoon after the boys and I took a nanna nap together and this is what I was faced with and here on my Flickr Page 52 Weeks of Mortimer 2011

My suggestion is to just add the phtoos to the group from last year but put 2011 in the title of your photos as you post them ... I am the admin of the 2010 group and I tried to look for a way to set up a seperate folder within that group but couldn't find one ......
