  1. I am not a wire-haired coat expert, but I never use conditioner on myself or on my dogs, who are lucky to be bathed once a year! Instead I use cider vinegar as a final rinse. 2-3 tablespoons per litre of warm water & DO NOT rinse out!
  2. I have a dog with pemphigus erythematosus, which is akin to lupus. He was diagnosed a good four years ago now but I have fed raw for over 20 years. My advice to you is to continue feeding raw & work around the chicken allergy. About three months ago I started the dogs on Vets All Natural, mainly because I was going away for three weeks & it seemed the easiest solution for preparation & feeding of a raw diet. All the dogs are doing very well on it, but moreso the pemphigus dog who has improved heaps. They get VAN mixed with diced kangaroo every second day, with the off day being a meal of raw meaty bones. I am able to feed chicken carcases, but maybe you could find an alternative - lamb necks, lamb breast bones, shoulder blades or maybe even rabbit if you can source it?
  3. She said on her last visit that she'd never do a sports dog before the age of 14 months. Early Spay-Neuter Considerations for the Canine Athlete by Chris Zinc
  4. The greasiness & build up could be easily combatted with a rinse of cider vinegar after shampooing instead of using conditioner. Cider vinegar enhances highlights & leaves hair soft & manageable. I use (on myself as well as dogs) 3 tbs to a litre of warm water.
  5. I haven't heard a bad report about Rovers in all the years they've been open - & operating a taxi & taking people backwards & forwards to the airport, I would definitely have heard by now! The only gripe I have ever heard is about the cost. Dogs often return home fitter & healthier than when they left, & if they are delivered home by one of the proprietors, then they often try to get back in the car when he leaves I know a local vet nurse also uses them, so I suppose you can't get much better recommendation than that?
  6. Brisket bones will put weight on a dog as will lamb flaps.
  7. My new Porteen camera bag finally arrived today - must have got held up in the post with all the public holidays over Easter! After a lot of deliberation I went with mahogany leather, blue tan tapestry, tan canvas, brown strap & blue lining. It's just fantastic, plenty of room for my photography gear & some personal stuff. The colours look great, lovely earthy tones - that's me! Pics below Thanks huga, for alerting us all to this site...... lovely new designs on there too, for those who haven't been tempted
  8. I have used Ungvita quite successfully on horses a number of times & it seems to promote hair regrowth where previously scarring has prevented this. It is basically a vitamin A ointment.
  9. Sorry for your loss, Kirsten; so soon after Rex, too. Just doesn't seem fair to lose two loved ones so close together
  10. Thanks for the link to David's blog, PC. He certainly visits some beautiful locations & I enjoyed dreaming of joining a tour one day!
  11. Kirty, I have only just seen this. I cannot believe the way you turned Rex's condition around, the pound dog looked nothing like the one pictured above. Thank you for giving back Rex's self esteem, you couldn't fix his disability, but you gave him love & restored his dignity.
  12. I'd really love to be able to afford the money & time to attend this workshop. Apparently there are still a couple of places available. Might be something to look forward to when I retire - my photography may have improved by then & at least I could do the scenery justice
  13. I have loved looking at all these bags so much I am going to shout myself one for my birthday Just can't decide which combo to choose. Think for me it's a toss up between...... a) Dusty green trees, distressed saddle with brown (or maybe tan ??) canvas & cinnamon interior fabric or b) ticker stripes, chocolate leather with brown canvas & red interior fabric Mmmm, will think some more before I commit......
  14. Bartok, hugs to you & your hubby! There is nothing like the love of a Shepherd & nothing like the loss
  15. Thanks ish, yes he is gorgeous and it's interesting to hear about the bi-colour and working lines which I don't know much about at all but will certainly check out now. Yes he is all GSD, no Belgian there. He reminds me of a semi longcoat bitch I rescued many years ago now. Good work, cathy, I hope you & Mack can enjoy each other's company for a long time to come
  16. Kirislin, what is shown is not really the issue & probably no worse than how many feral cats are handled. It is the behaviour of the staff, the ridicule of the kitten, & the lack of respect, that really stinks. By showing it, this person & the "shelter" are exposed - the story was taken up by Fox (?) news.
  17. This took place in USA, not UK. Doesn't matter really, the behaviour is disgusting.
  18. I took this last summer but it is one of my favourites. Water....... & balance (maybe)??
  19. Last March was shoot to crop...... was that really a year ago
  20. There are lots of new people in the photography forum now....... so perhaps we should just rerun the old ones?
  21. I would be interested to hear what breed fanciers say as the British Bulldog is twice as heavy as the French version & I would have thought that the humidity would knock them around. However, my main reason for posting is to alert you to this site : Pet Friendly Rentals
  22. Forget about "catworld" - it's much too controlled as far as rescue & forums are concerned. You now have enough posts to join us in Cat Chat in Off Topic, I think, & needy kitties are also highlighted in the rescue forums.
  23. Buy a tasty sausage, cut it up (raw) & stuff the tablet into one of the sections. The tablet takes on the scent of the sausagemeat & most dogs don't know it's in there! However of my three, Mr cunning Kelpie knows I am up to something & accordingly refuses to eat raw sausage , however he is easy to dose so he gets it down the neck!
