  1. Hey Blacktown List - isn't this supposed to be in the Urgent section? :)
  2. The k9Pro leather collars currently have 30% off the normal price & the Christmas sale has been extended until Wednesday 19th December. So jump in quick! They are terrific value at this price & you will have your collar before Christmas. Please note I am not affiliated with the business in any way, shape or form!
  3. It is important to remove the sting. Bees only sting once & leave their sting behind (& go off & die from memeory). The sting can continue pumping venom into the victim for a minute or two even when no longer attached to the bee so it is important to remove the sting by scratching sideways with a finger nail, edge of a credit card etc., & not to pull it out as it will only squeeze out more venom. I read an interesting article from the US recently which warned against using citrusy smelling fly repellants on horses - apparently the smell attracts bees! Applies equally to fly repellants for dogs, I assume.
  4. I would post the request in General Dog Discussion or even Off Topic - not everyone looks in rescue :)
  5. Great news about Bobby :) Sorry to hear Sally is not doing so well, but thank doG she has you to look after her!
  6. Thank you for your condolences, koolietas :) Maybe pop back into this thread in 6 weeks or so & let us know if there have been any changes in your dog?
  7. My niece in UK sent me this, it has gone viral around the world. :D Here is the BBC version http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20614593
  8. When our Shepherd x was diagnosed with mandibular osteosarcoma we consulted a holistic vet who advocated a diet of cooling foods for cancer patients. The cancer had already metastasised to the lungs. I devised Rogan's diet around the information in the websites below which contain food charts for yin/yan balance: http://www.acreaturecomfort.com/yinyanbalance.htm http://www.herbsmithinc.com/Home/Education/FoodCharts/default.asp#coolingfoods Rabbit, roo & duck were the meat components of his diet, chicken was off limits as it is warming. The cooling foods were tempered with neutral foods as you want a varied a diet as possible. Kangaroo is considered a neutral meat, as is beef. I also fed raw salmon which is neutral, but other fish should be fed cooked. I have always fed raw, well for over 25 years at least, so Rogan's diet was not vastly different after his diagnosis in that respect, I just changed the protein source & made sure any vegetables or supplements were not warming or heating. Rogan had wonderful quality of life for the remaining four months he was with us. He looked healthy & was full of vitality so I can only assume the diet did its job in supporting the immune system. Finally the tumour grew so large he put his tooth through it chomping on a rabbit he had caught. The bleeding could not be stopped so we had no option but to send him on his way over the bridge. He was a dog 'til the end, though, doing what he loved best
  9. But Gwen is not the soft touch that Peter was :)
  10. Best wishes for your new endeavour, Andrea Just one thing..... could AAR be confused with the microchip registry?
  11. Contact Burkes or Raelene on here & find out about getting a poster out on the rescue e-mail network which circulates far & wide throughout the local area. The poster network is very effective & I have had a lot of success helping to rehome pets through the system as well as finding some great companions for contacts! The e-mails go out to representatives in just about every Government department in Canberra, as well as the unis, hospitals, & private enterprises, so your posters will be posted everywhere! You need to limit the poster to A4 size for best results &....... a really good photo is mandatory!
  12. I remember Baz! Thank you for giving him four wonderful years! Sending you strength to see you through the coming days
  13. Bathing in Erny's calendula tea infusion would be my recommendation & adding something like megaderm or plain old extra virgin organic coconut oil to the diet will probably help too.
  14. I feel your pain! I have lived in Australia for 29 years but still miss the glorious walks of the UK & Europe (I taught in Austria for 12 months)! You also have to be mindful of snakes & ticks here. The paralysis tick inhabits the East Coast up to about 15km inland & venomous snakes are everywhere. We are lucky in that we live in a rural area, have some fantastic acreage to run the dogs (though not in snake season) but I still miss those twilight walks to the village pub for supper!
  15. Just be careful Aussie, I pick all the fruit now as it is just not worth the risk. Maybe pick up the fruit off the ground.... The weird thing is, Bella has never in 10 years eaten the plumbs It was difficult to diagnose to begin with, I had no idea that she had been eating plumbs and didnt mention it to the vet, at first they thought she had had a stroke. I saw the seeds in her stool and which led us to cyanide poisoning. Bella was at the emergency vet in a very bad way, it was terrible. Thank god she pulled through, I adore the monkey! I guess it is true of most plants that elements of toxicity can be put to good use; although I can't think of any redeeming features of WJ  Vitamin B17/ laetrile comes to mind.....this treatment is often advocated by alternative practitioners for cancer. The soft inner pit or the seed of the apricot is one of the highest sources of vitamin B17. The Hunza people of the Himalayas have become very famous over the years because they are some of the longest lived people in the world with a high quality of health & vitality. The apricot tree is the Hunza's main crop & they snack on them eating as many as 60 per day. When Rogan was undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma we used to grind up apricot kernels & mix them with his food. He used to get 30 per day & showed no ill effects.
  16. Kirislin, in Haven's absence, this site explains it quite well: http://www.nu-mega.com/content/?id=24
  17. What a special boy Jake was. Rest easy now, little guy Sending you courage & comfort to help face every day.
  18. Take your dog with you; you will both have a ball in UK! It is so much more dog friendly than Aus. You can take your dog in the pub, into the restaurant, on trains & buses & there are many more places offering accommodation for holidaying with your dog than in Australia. Plus there are no snakes!
  19. Sorry to hijack your thread ktb, I just have to show you Rogan, he & Diesel are so alike! At home by Groenendevil, on Flickr
  20. Sheilaheel.... they are out in Bungendore! OH spotted a tiger while walking yesterday arvo, & Ringer red dog presented us with a baby snake today. Strange, because he normally tries to avoid them but will give warning barks. At any rate, he didn't like the taste because he soon spat it out
  21. I would say he is Kelpie x GSD, he is not unlike our Rogan who passed away 6 weeks ago after battling osteosarcoma. He looks gorgeous..... I am surprised he didn't get local interest.
  22. Oh that's great news all round. to the forum mirribandi, your contact details were amongst those I sent via PM to LDH :)
  23. Is he the type of Belgian Shepherd that is extensively used as a police dog? If so... & given he's still young, consider contacting the Q'ld Police Service. The QPS both breeds their own puppies and takes donated dogs. No, mita, that is the Malinois, short coat variety.
