Do a search in the Health, Nutrition & Grooming forum as this topic has been brought up on other occasions. Brisket bones really stack on the weight.

Does anyone on here remember the GSDL herding trials that used to be held at Goulburn, NSW about 20 - 25 years ago? Unfortunately, I never went & had a look, my dog interests weren't as honed back then :) but I believe the trials were similar to 'C' course herding. Is there anybody on DOL doing 'C' course with their Sheps?...... I don't hang out in the training forum as much as I probably should :D

germanshep fan, Thea is just gorgeous Would you mind PMing her breeding for me to store away for future reference  I've had a couple of dogs like this in the past, lineage unknown, I thought they had all just about died out! And, yes, agree, with the other posters, having owned both GSDs & BSDs they are quite different.

I have seen polypipe threaded though taut wire on top of a solid fence to deter a fence scaler but would it be as effective?

Am I reading this right? You are fostering a dog who is a fence jumper & has aggression issues. I don't know for whom you foster, but someone needs to realise this dog may not ever be a candidate for rehoming. Fence jumpers are heartbreakers, you will be looking for an extra special home for this dog, & if it has aggression issues then the problem is compounded. The rescue organisation should help you with costs & help implement methods to keep this dog contained, particularly in view of the fact your own dog was beaten to death in its own backyard a couple of weeks ago. Link I would have thought considering what has happened, this dog would be the worst candidate for you to take on as a foster. Your dog(s) must have got someone in the neighbourhood off side at some time. If this dog is liable to escape it may be all the provocation the attacker needs to be a repeat offender

That is just horrendous, such an awful thing to witness, I really do not know what to say to give comfort after such a brutal attack. I agree about going to the police station & do not be fobbed off by some civvy behind the counter or on the phone. You actually need to speak to a member of the constabulary, I'd be asking for the station sergeant, personally. I have heard the crime stoppers line is not actually manned by police at all, the service has been tendered out to a private company.

Best Bones For Keeping Teeth Healthy?
trifecta replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fair enough, each to his own :) I think my aversion to frozen things stems from my personal preference for foods at room temperature! OH thinks I am strange - I am not a fan of ice cream & won't eat fruit straight from the fridge. Mind you, there are a few things I enjoy cold..... beer & white wine, of course :D Mita, Hockz is right about the size of meaty bones & the ratio of meat to bone, maybe try a chicken thigh or casserole chicken pieces instead of necks or wings so that the Tibbies are forced to chew & not just swallow! Also thanks for reminding me about brisket bones! They are great for putting weight on a dog, & I could probably reintroduce them now the beef intolerant dog has gone over the bridge. Can't remember who asked about sourcing rabbit, but I buy it locally from a couple of rural produce stores where I buy horse feed, these types of places would be cheaper for wild rabbit. Or else make friends with a ferret keeper  -

I don't see how feeding frozen is unnatural as wolves commonly reside in arctic areas. :p So do the wolves catch their food & put it in cold storage until later? Have any of your dogs ever sustained freezer burns to the tongue or lips? Nope to the freezer burn.Wolves will hide food for later and in winter time this means burying it in snow. They will also eat off a carcass if they come across one, frozen or not. My old dog would bury his "leftovers" in snow too and heck yes they freeze when the temperature is closer to -30 degrees. I don't feed bare bones so once the dog gets to the actual bone it has already defrosted a fair bit. Yes I appreciate that wolves like all canids are opportunists, scavengers & eat carrion which would be frozen in winter, but this is out of necessity not necessarily choice They also do not enjoy the longevity of our pets. -

I do not feed any weight bearing bones & that now includes roo tail since my Belgian girl sustained a slab fracture chomping on a piece of tail bone. I have fed raw for 25 years..... started off with chicken frames, necks & wings together with lamb flaps, breast bones & lamb necks. Have had to tweak my diets a bit over the years due to food intolerances & preferences of various pack members. Now I mainly quarter whole chickens & have access to a handy supply of wild rabbit. The latter is the perfect food in my opinion. I also feed turkey wings & occasionally duck wings, although they are not very meaty. Belgian girl loves salmon heads but Kelpie will not touch them. I have seen pig's heads at the markets, cheap at $5 each, but have not tried feeding them. They are really too big as I prefer to feed smaller meals twice daily. I do not feed any bones or meat frozen - to me it is as unnatural as feeding cooked food. All my dogs (7) have had good teeth, except for the Belgian who is the only one of my dogs to have had a dental or any teeth removed. -
A local kennel has exported Kelpies to Scandinavia as working dogs for herding reindeer. They have their own heated accommodation complete with armchairs

K9 Noseworks Seminar & Workshop Melbourne

How exciting! Although I would expect the Laekenois to be the missing representative! -
A few of our regulars use Sonza for short term boarding (5-7 days max) but prefer other establishments for longer term boarding as exercise facilities are limited. I have used John Montgomery for the occasional rescue dog & he is very good. Well priced & does not allow dogs straight from the pound into the reception area. He does most of the racing greyhound vetwork, being the club vet & has a no nonsense approach.

Someone Is Trying To Rehome A Malinois
trifecta replied to Remarkabull's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is Sally Rogers who posted as happypawshaven above. Sally is the rescue officer for the BSD club of NSW. Remarkabull, if the situation eventuates where the dog needs rescue, contact Sally on 02 66449936. Sally has taken Belgians from NT before. I am happy to chip in for a flight. Unfortunately while the Groenendael is mainly represented in pounds, Malinois are popping up more & more. I sincerely hope we don't reach the levels of abandonment of the US where the Malinois variety has gained popularity due to being made famous as the dog used by the Navy seals to capture & kill Bin Laden -
Male Gsp Needing Urgent Rescue
trifecta replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think it's Ok if the dog is in urgent need of rescue? In theory, there is only an exemption if the dog is too elderly or too young to be desexed. I am not a stickler for following the rules to the letter, but in my opinion it is much safer if interested parties can message you privately for contact details. -

Male Gsp Needing Urgent Rescue
trifecta replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Have a look at this thread http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/250069-gsp-in-renbury/ there are some GSP contacts in here. Also, it would be a good idea to remove the phone number from your opening post. It is an open invitation to anyone looking to acquire an entire dog...... & technically, advertising an undesexed dog does not comply with forum rules. :) -

I am with breed rescue in NSW but can find out if anyone has any contacts up there. Do you know who bred the dog? First port of call would be to contact the breeder. -
