  1. Our dogs go out in all weathers & so do we! I was brought up in the UK, if you wait for it to stop raining there the dogs would never go outside. Buy yourself some good quality, comfortable waterproof gear, you may find that walking in the rain is enjoyable :)
  2. I first started formal obedience 26 years ago with a rescue BC x Kelpie. She didn't like corrections from a check chain so I trained her on a flat collar with praise & pats. There was no talk of food or toy motivation back then.....as many of you will remember! But, do you know, she went the furthest of any of my dogs in obedience! Maybe it was because she was an only dog & I had more time? Maybe I had more time because I was younger & not weighed down by responsibility?! Anyway perse, thanks for reminding me about an awesome dog! And, by the way.....those pups are gorgeous :D
  3. I agree with you that this is an auto-immune condition, which is why I asked about the location of the crusty sores. My Kelpie has pemphigus erythematosus (not suggesting that yours has!), but it took a homoeopathic vet to recognise it. Exposure to the sun & other environmental triggers make it flare up, but on the whole we keep it well under control with diet, limited time in the sun in spring & summer & avoiding certain types of grasses when they are growing vigorously, such as paspalum. Incidentally, the homoeopathic vet advised against ever vaccinating the dog again; Ringer was a foster failure, expounded at about 7 months of age &, of course, vaccinated & desexed shortly after joining our household.
  4. Where on the body are the crusty spots? On the skin? Facial area & ears? Where the skin meets mucous membrane ie. mouth area, eye rims, nose, anus, vagina, under the nails?
  5. Rogan stole Denise's heart at the Sydney Dogs Home 10 years ago, so it's a long time ago now. :) Sadly, we lost him to mandibular osteosarcoma about 18 months ago. He is very much missed
  6. Love the reflection of the sun in the water, KA!

  8. I have been buying from Stefmar on e-bay. 2 x 500g RHVC powder for $174.00 including postage Steve, re the turmeric capsules, what dosage do you recommend? I was using it for a 36kg dog with cancer (who is no longer with us) giving 500mg capsule once daily. (Sorry to hijack thread!) Getting back to arthritis, I would also advocate Bowen therapy from time to time.
  9. I heard her by mistake this morning, turned her off after a few minutes. Hope she stays in the lab - her area of expertise is veterinary pathology.
  10. So sorry to hear of the passing of another dearly loved DOL dog. It's certainly been a sad couple of days
  11. Sometimes there is the feeling of relief, Kirislin, I have experienced this myself, & you have the evidence to support your decision to set her free. How fitting you shared memories of Kibah with those who loved her also Run fast little Kibah
  12. What a wonderful life she has led - a Whippety life to the full :D Take strength from your memories, Kirislin, she will let you know when life is not fun anymore.
  13. The electronics didn't do too well in the rain, HW! Highly likely I've had a bet with your ol' man, & even likelier OH has, don't think there's a course in NSW that he's not been to
  14. 7/52 Braidwood Races - a good old country race meeting! :D Ambulances deployed to traffic accidents in the area meant a delay to the start of the afternoon; then there were two near deaths including an almost fatal choking on a steak sandwich; a false start in the first with two horses flying the gates thinking the rest of the field were following; kangaroos in the centre of the track, then finally the much needed rain came down in torrents & the meeting was abandoned after the first race due to the state of the track & poor visibility! Hanging around in the tie up stalls waiting for the ambulance to return to the course: Braidwood Races by Groenendevil on Flickr
  15. So sorry to read the old boy has gone, Natalie. Take care & Laura too
  16. My friend's Cocker Spaniel lived to be 22 years of age, but gave us all a scare at the age of 19 when she got washed away in a flood & we were unable to find her. Deaf & almost blind, she found her way home 3 weeks later looking a sorry sight..... but she was a survivor & went on to live for another three years! My former vet who left our little town to work in Central Australia once told me about a dog she treated in Alice Springs who was 28 years old
  17. An early start to this week, a day off spent on the river :) 6/52 Belgian River Queen-2618 by Groenendevil, on Flickr
  18. 5/52 Maybe I should have titled this "Sole Mates"? :D
  19. If you look back in the thread Steve sells the fair dinkum organic stuff :thumbsup ETA This is Steve's site.
  20. Crazy Cresties, send that pic to the local newspaper - that deserves to be in print!
