How To Choose A Rescue Group
trifecta replied to aussielover's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
If you are interested in Labradors, you cannot go wrong by contacting Katherine at Labrador rescue http://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/10143 -
As regards the worming, I wouldn't worm for three months provided he was dosed according to weight, he has, afterall, had a lot of drugs in the last 3 months. If you are worried he may still be wormy, get a fecal test done to see if there are any worm eggs in his stools. Regarding the travel, wow, he has done a lot! Hope he settles down now & finally realises he is home.

I haven't used Vet Aid Sea Salt Spray on a dog, but have used it on horses for a) rain scald & b) a fungal thing going on underneath the mane. I have also used it on myself & didn't find it ouchy at all. It worked really well on the horses.... only needed a couple of applications. I had a problem with the nozzle becoming blocked & the pump failing, but to their credit, k9pro replaced it no questions asked

OK, I'm back! Was tossing up between a shot of Ringer for Hazy Wal or this one below! 37/52 September Moon by Groenendevil on Flickr This looks much better on OH's ipad than on my crappy laptop screen :)

That sounds expensive to me, my BSD just had a lipoma behind her elbow removed together with a dental plus one molar extraction for $533.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, grumpette, but while on the subject of working dogs...... if anyone is interested in signing, there is a petition to lobby the United States Department of Defence to bring US Army dogs home to America instead of abandoning them in the conflict zone, as was the case in the Vietnam war. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/279/131/337/urge-that-all-military-dogs-retire-on-us-soil/

My Experience With Male Vs Female
trifecta replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have mainly had girls over the years & ran a pack of four girls with no issues at all - mainly because the top dog was a real alpha in the true sense of the word, she never needed to flex her muscles, just one look would restore order  I miss all the ones gone to the bridge, both male & female! Gender to me is not important, but pack dynamics certainly are - nothing worse than trying to juggle dogs that do not get on. -
Everyone has an opinion on VAN  A search will reveal past threads, but I just use it as a standby when I don't have time to make my own mix.

Does Anyone Use Slippery Elm Powder?
trifecta replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I usually keep the tincture on hand, but if I were buying the powder form I would be buying it from DOLer Steve :D http://www.shalarm.com.au/index.php/shop/dogs/organic-slippery-elm-bark-powder-150g-detail -
LFF, I have only just started shooting manual. Over the years I enthusiastically read heaps of articles but come shooting time I was never able to successfully fit the text to the occasion, so I became stuck in Aperture mode. The thing that changed it for me was the workshop by Peter Coulson. In the space of four hours I learnt more about exposure & light metering than a couple of years of reading. I highly recommend doing a workshop with a professional photographer, I'm sure there would be something on offer where you are in Sydney? Unfortunately I don't have the time to commit to a course or a join a club, my photography interest has to be way down on my list of priorities at the moment - that's just the way life is, there are other things which must take precedence. Maybe you find yourself in the same situation? Again doing the odd workshop now & again can be useful stepping stones without overcommiting oneself. However, in the long term, I hope to be able to devote much more time to photography and then maybe any improvement will be made at a much faster rate :) and I hope to be able to afford some new gear instead of my old outdated D80  ETA Thanks for the condolences & kind thoughts, guys!

Don't you dare. There is still the best part of the year left. So out you go and capture the world for us to see and enjoy. Thanks for the words of encouragement, grumpette. I will try! Yesterday I buried my old mare that I have had for over 21 years. This is the last photo I have of her, although I took it in July. I just took a shot of her beautiful head at dusk one evening when we were enjoying some quiet time together. Tiki - 3243 by Groenendevil on Flickr

I like she impala in the long grass...... it fits the upward movement of the total composition - the horns, trees, & grass :) As for me? Well, I haven't got anything to show for the last three weeks , so I guess I'll have to bow out & leave you guys to it.

Important Request For Allerzoit And Grumpette
trifecta replied to Brandiandwe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, I'm a sucker for a black & tan, whether it be a Kelpie, Rottie or Shepherd  I'm also increasingly being attracted to the Collie Smooth, although I think I'll always have a Belgian! :D -
I voted yes, but just to clarify I don't feed multiple drumsticks at a time. When my two get chicken, I cut a no.11 or no.12 bird down the middle & they get half each :)

I recommend you post this in the Photography section of the forum. There are some very talented Victorian DOL photographers

For racing colts & stallions we use vaseline or baby oil. For an individual who is big, has ability but is not well bred enough for the breeding barn, we use the snip :D

Talking of birds...... where is Ripley? :) MIA for a looong time

Gorgeous girls..... we had a Sheltie called Bonnie many years ago when I was a kid in UK :D She could hold her own against the Sheps! This could be the breed for me when I am too old for Belgians

What page is this? Is this person purchasing him from the pound or are they rescue?

It was on the ABC news last night, & was exactly as you told it, Pattycake. There was also video footage of 3 police officers trying to catch the dog, but it charged them & they retreated waiting for the ranger. The last few images showed the owner (who had been unable to secure the dog) & ranger with dog on a pole trying to get the dog in a crate.

Feeding Coconut In Non Oil Form
trifecta replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Please be aware feeding turmeric in large quantities over an extended period of time can cause stomach upset. Curcumin stimulates the gallbladder to produce bile, this can lead to ulceration. Moreover, some of the studies where curcumin has been found to be most effective are where it has been administered in injectable form, not oral. So as always, use in moderation :) -
I am so sorry, Seren, what a roller coaster of a ride you have had these past three weeks. Poor Lace, she endured so much at such a young age. Run free & fast lovely girl, you were too beautiful to stay Take time for yourself, Seren, you did the best you could for Lace although it was not the outcome you hoped for

Wound is about 3" long. Understandably she has been a bit doughy today, but perked up considerably after a short walk late afternoon. I think it did her good to move around, it will stop the build up of fluid.

I think this Blackmore's product is a capsule, not a chew? LINK Just wondering if it works out cheaper than Pernease?
