There is no distiction between targeting Hydatids & other tapeworm species in broad spectrum wormers, but if the dog is at a high risk of picking up hydatids it is advised to worm at the six week mark with a tapeworm only wormer such as Droncit.

How bizarre! This topic dates from 2008 I didn't think it was possible to resurrect a topic over 12 months old

Cool Coats That Don't Require Water?
trifecta replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I tried to buy one of these for my Belgian Shepherd but she was between sizes & neither size fitted properly. They also seem to be quite heavy, not really suited to long hiking which was what I wanted it for. -
From a bit of a survey I have done amongst some of our clients who live on acreage or adjacent to open paddocks, the snake repellants seem to be only as good as the person who installs them & checks them weekly to make sure they are working properly. They have to be pushed home into the ground, not standing proud as in the photo. I'm told it helps to water around them to keep the ground moist & to make sure the body of the device is in contact with the ground. However..... we have elected not to build on our acreage but to reside in town on half an acre. Being vigilant for snakes for 7 months of the year is too much hassle, the cattle & horses are enough work in themselves, but we have been fortunate enough to lose neither to snake bite in fifteen years.

You won't regret it, Cougar! For Sydneysiders & those in NSW Peter is doing a workshop in November http://www.koukei.com.au/#/workshops/141121-sydnl I would love to go to Sydney as the Canberra one had a lot more people being a special one off at the National Portrait Gallery. Unfortunately it's bad timing for me -

Anbody Ever Had A Dog With A Broken Toe?
trifecta replied to DesertDobes's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think you mean a Robert Jones bandage - a type of soft splint bandage. I have been looking for a photo of our Rogan wearing this type of bandage when he broke his toe, I can't find it at the moment & will look again tomorrow. With middle toes you can tape them together so that the good toe acts as a splint. I have never had a dog that needed a toe amputated, they have all healed well with strapping. -
That's OK we're happy to wait :D Yes, Hazy, that's Ned. You may have met in a past life on a racetrack perhaps? Leah, I like the pic of cool Collie! Love the bubbles, teekay, I see you have some more awesome shots on your Flickr photostream, & Weibritty, orchids can be cantankerous, but so pleased yours is finally flowering & honouring the memory of your father-in-law.

We have a Triton Ute with an ARB canopy. In temperatures in the high 30s it gets really hot in there even with the windows open because of the air temperature. Some of the newer Tritons have a rear cab window that can be opened to give access to the tray / canopy, but I'm not sure if the aircon would be powerful enough to cool such a large space?

Of course they do...... My guys seek out different types of faeces on different occasions as if they are looking for something.... sometimes they look for possum scats, on other occasions they eat kangaroo or wombat droppings, horse droppings are the favourite though as horses are not efficient at digesting. Herbivore poo is not a substitute for green tripe, but obviously fills some nutritional gap. I'm not sure eating something because it smells interesting is proof that it fills a nutritional gap. Dogs will also happily eat chocolate and not only does that not fill a nutritional gap, it can kill them. So why on some days will an individual pass over roo poo in favour of wombat poo? Some days one of mine hoes into duck shit, other days she'll leave it alone.

Malamite Puppy Just Ate Some Wood Off His Kennel
trifecta replied to ellejaytee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When my Belgian girl was young she had a pencahant for wood. A Roman blind & a director's chair were both reduced to kindling . He will probably be fine, but keep a close eye on your puppy & off to the vet if he is off colour. -
teekay, 'Death in Venice' have you read it..... or seen the film? I haven't time to read at the moment, just skimmed over the photos, but I will be back in here to have a closer look! Gapvic, your photos are wonderfully evocative & cature the essence of all things Italian You must go back to Venice for Carnivale one February....the swirling fogs, cold, damp air, rustle of cloaks & masked faces of people in period costume..... a photographer's heaven (especially one as accomplished as yourself ).

Have you considered a possible endocrine disorder? I would highly recommend getting a thyroid profile through Dr Jean Dodds. If the dog is two & never dropped puppy coat she could have a hormone imbalance. Edited for sense - dumb ipad :)

Awesome pics, gapvic, Venice is one of my favourite cities! I first visited in 1982 for Carnivale :)
