I was thinking number 3? But after reading what you're saying I realize she would look even more ridiculous then she does now (refer to the picture below - that's Rosie in the car, in case you're wondering what's on the pic).

Thanks for your suggestions LucyCharzie & Westiemum. I actually have already made an appointment with "Spoilt Dog" in 2 weeks but am still in two minds ... By the way, only the dog in the right picture is mine. Because Rosie looks like a monster in most photos I included a photo from Google images of what Tibetan terriers should look like .

I have a long haired, double coated dog, a Tibetan terrier who is 20 months old & has survived one Adelaide hot summer already. Her hair didn't seem to be quite as long then as it is now & also we are already having extremely hot weather - 41 degrees C tomorrow. My problem is - should I clip her or shouldn't I? One day I think - yes definitely I'll book her in for a haircut & next day I'm not so sure. She is an inside dog most of the time but loves her daily walks & runs. I take her out early in the morning when it's still not too hot ( around 24 C), but I can't help feeling sorry for the poor thing panting like crazy after 15 minutes of walking & running in the park. Any opinions welcome.

My recommendation would be David Harrison & Robyn Sharp at Hallet Cove Vet Clinic. I do not recommend Brighton Vet Hospital . -
How Can I Make Brushing More Enjoyable?
Shoshana replied to Abby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Make it into your special time for relaxation & bonding. It might help if you do it when your dog is tired rather than "full of beans". I love combing & brushing my dog in the evening, sitting on the carpet in front of the TV, with lots of cuddles & belly rubs in between. I have acquired a rather large number of combs & brushes most of which Rosie doesn't like. The only ones she likes are the comb with rotating teeth, a pin brush & 100% boar bristle brush. Rosie is a long haired dog & this time of the year she picks up lots of prickles during walks & needs to be combed & brushed quite often. She has learned to enjoy it almost as much as I do. -
isn't it meant to be soaked & then mixed with meat? Anyway, it doesn't sound like you made much use out of the packet you 'd bought.

I'd be interested to know if VETS ALL NATURALL COMPLETE MIX ( http://www.greenpet.com.au/pet-shop/cart.p...;category_id=69 ) is as good as BARF patties for example. Any opinions?

Do you mean "Marema" perhaps? How big is the pup? How much does he weigh? Any dry food packet would have a guide about feeding quantities based on dog's weight. I'm no expert but I would use food to "befriend" the pup - maybe hand feed him and at the same time talk to him nicely & pet him. This is how wolves were domesticated 15000 years ago. Good luck & tell us more about him please.

Has Anyone's Dog Choked On Chicken Necks?
Shoshana replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've been giving chicken necks and wings to Rosie (6 1/2 month old tibetan terrier) since she was 9 weeks old. She chews them well & never had problems. The only thing that freeks me out is her habit of finding my sons lego pieces & chewing them. Luckily, as soon as I say DROP IT she drops whatever she's got in her mouth. -
How Do You Give Your Dog Tablets?
Shoshana replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My doggie is not greedy & is by nature suspicious. If she doesn't like a tablet (some she does like) I crush it (in a mortar, with pestle) into powder, then add a glob of peanut paste, thoroughly mix it all together with my fingers & then let Rosie lick my fingers - so far she's never refused it. -
This may be related to the production of progesterone a naturally produced calming hormone which is removed through spaying. I hope it will get better once their hormones become more balanced.

Rosie is back home after her surgery & is recovering well. The surgeon said that most comon elbow fractures are on the outside of the elbow but hers being on the inside indicates that there was a severe trauma that caused it. Also - there is no defect in calcification of the intercondylar region - Rosie's bones are strong & healthy (by the way, she's been on BARF diet since 9 weeks of age). The surgeon implanted 3 pins in the elbow but in the proces of fixing the bones she had to cut the triceps tendon - so poor Rosie will be bandaged for 3 weeks - have physio after that & hopefully 6 weeks after the surgery she'll be allowed to gradually resume normal activities. I haven't talked to the Day Care people yet - fist they hadn't answered my message for a few days, then I was too busy organising Rosie's surgery... I'm planning to deal with them next week. First I'll ask them a few questions & see how they feel about taking some responsibility - & if that comes to nothing I'll get my lawyer to write them a nice letter - given that I never was given any paperwork other than a form to fill out with my details & signature referring me (in small print) to full terms & conditions which were never given to me. Also - there is evidence that they alow dogs to jump onto concrete from some hight. Anyway - I'll get legal advice first.

My humble understanding is that pigs ears have high fat content (if that's a worry) - you can buy beef ears - they are meant to be less fatty - & are certainly more kosher.
-
Thank you so much for your support Charles. We are really lucky to have someone like you here on the DOLF. Your advice made me realize that hoping for the best was not going to be enough to save Rosie's leg. It's been a tough decision for me, as I'm saving money for a new car & a holiday - but I don't think I could live with myself knowing I haven't done everything I could to help my dog.

Thank you Tammi Rosie is on anti-inflamatory medication till the end of the week & it makes her dopey - so she sleeps a lot. I'm missing having my puppy follow me around everywhere. Also, she has become closer to me as a result of being handicapped - she realises how much I love her & trusts me more... I've decided to go ahead with the surgery - this morning I'll be arranging referral for an orthopedic surgeon.
-
Thank you for your kind words "I Has Flava!" , "Erny" and "Ari". I'm so sad & feel for my Rosie - she's been through a lot of pain & I'm not particularly in the mood to listen to reason ...
-
Thank you all for your replies - they all make sense. I wish I left Rosie at home... The vet said she might even have to have her leg cut off if it doesn't heal properly. She also said : "Good news is small dogs cope extremely well on 3 legs" I'm hoping for the best.
-
I know ... it's just that I left my dog in their care so they can "care" for her - otherwise I would have left her at home.
-
I'm afraid you might be right.
-
I did sign a form & at the bottom it reffered me to the full terms & conditions which I didn't receive - anyway I'll ask about that tomorrow. The vet just said that small dogs have such tiny bones & it could easily happen. Rosie is 7.5 kg dog & a completely broken bone doesn't happen just like that. I'll see... Thanks for your concern becboo...

Friday was the first day of the Royal Adelaide Show & since my son had a day off school I had planned weeks before to go to the show & leave Rosie in doggie day care at the kennel club where we do obediance. I thought this would be wonderful for her because she loves running around & playing with other dogs & I wouldn't worry about her being left alone all day in the back yard. Friday is also a small dog day at the daycare - so it sounded perfect since Rosie is 5 1/2 month old tibetan terrier. Anyway - to cut the story short - it turned into a nightmare - Rosie broke her elbow there - the X- rays show a bad fracture - completely broken off bit of the right elbow. Aparently Rosie was supervised at the time it had happened & the carers couldn't tell why she all of a sudden screamed - to them it didn't look serious. Rosie would need orthopedic surgery to fix her properly which would set me back for $2000-$3000. At the moment she is all bandaged up to her shoulder & the vet said to keep her not using the leg for 6 weeks. I'll talk to the day care people tomorrow & see if they can be at all responsible & maybe pay for Rosies treatment. I'm very upset at the moment & naturally want to blame somebody. What do you think?

Rosie loves her monkey & her ball... Actualy, anything that will engage family members to play with her is her favourite. When she is by herself she likes to chew on bones & sticks.

If I had a Doberman (again) I'd call it Elvis (again), if I had a Golden Retriever I'd call it Honey, if I had a Min Pin I'd call it Pegasus, if I had a Rotti I'd call it Shrek or Fiona, if I had a Chi I'd call it James or Elizabeth, but my Tibetan terrier is called Rosie because my son thought it was a cool name for a black scruffy dog.

I agree... Also certain names go better with certain breeds.
