Things like roundabouts, additional lanes and traffic lights can take years to get on to the Vic Roads works lists even if the powers that be think it is a wonderful idea. They have to conduct feasibility studies, impacts and have countless budgetary meetings. There was a roundabout approved on the corner where we lived and it still had not gone on to the council work calendar when we moved 5 years later. Road extensions, extra lanes, traffic lights are all Vic Roads. Often it is the local council who puts up additional lighting at problem intersections. It is an unfortunate fact that the quickest way to get action is to have the place declared a blackspot and to be a blackspot, there has to be a high number of accidents I would suggest that the petition is sent to the local council as wel as Vic Roads. I wouldn't put an end date on it. But keep it open and people signing. Just keep sending the petition as it updates with more signatures.

Huge round of applause for that post, kelpiesrule.

The statistics support the indisputable fact that obtaining a Grand Championship is an impossible dream for many breeds. At the last 4 shows in Vic where the entry exceeded 800 dogs there were 6, 7 and 9 breeds where there was the potential of a 25 pt challenge if there were no scratchings. Reading Dog News Australia, there were 1077 dogs entered for Durack earlier in the year and of the 126 breeds entered only 20 could possibly earn a 25 point challenge. Less with scratchings. People can quote me the exceptions who still gain their Grand titles from a 6 point challenge and boast about how good they showing multiple rare breeds to beat all comers, the fact remains, the current ruling excluded the majority of those showing dogs. The figures do not lie.

Eastern Creek Quarantine Station
TessnSean replied to Mathilda's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
We had 2 come out of Eastern Creek 2 months ago and there were no issues. You can hire a dog walker to go in a couple of times a week if you can't go yourself. They provide you with the number to contact the handler looking after your dog and there is no restriction on calling theml. They report how your dogs eat, their weight and will give your dog treats and toys if you want to send them through. I would use them again. They have provision for 200 dogs and I was told have never been full. -
There are breeds where they do not have their first season until they are past 2 and then are not bread until a minimum of 3. For some breeds a cut off of 6 will mean 1 or 2 litters. The condition of not weaning until 7 weeks has many scenarios where it is not realistic. The bitch has no milk, the pups wean themselves or the bitch refuses to feed them. Don't hold back from having any input. That is the reason it is there for public comment. If those in QLD think that it is ok because it says "should" rather than "must" , consider that this draft will be sent to be written for legislation. It is a mere stroke of whiteout to replace one word with the other and the whole meaning is changed. Remember the debarking regulation in Victoria. We all read it and missed the "can't show" clause.

http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/4790_21020.htm Qld people. It is in your best interests to go and read the draft legislation and comment. There are some fairly stringent conditions listed that will affect all breeders, not just puppy farmers.

What i always fined interesting when this topic comes up is the people who whinge the most come from the states that have enormous numbers of shows & far more opportunties Well there you go. I thought I was having a reasonable conversation and playing devil's advocate by putting a different point of view. Solidly put back in my place by the mighty and all knowing Showdog and outed as a whinger. I am a bit offended by that actually. Pretty typical of the "play the man" responses in here lately though. The Show Ring side of DOL has become very much a closed shop. Look what fatigues copped a couple of weeks back. Enjoy your thread whinge free because this whinger is out of here. I will head off and change my location though. We moved from 'near Melbourne' 10 months ago and I had forgotten that on my profile until you. Made your whinger comment.

Sorry - but I don't agree with your assumption that people with views that the Gr CH should be tougher are people with Gr CH - I don't own a GR CH or even an Ch yet (soon I hope) but believe that the current rules are better than the old ones. A Gr CH needs to have shown that it has beaten something. The requirement of four 25 point challenges makes sure that this has happened. Also - a Belgian Shepherd was BIS at an all breeds show here in SA last year - so it does happen. This breed regularly wins at Group level because it is a fantastic example of the breed. It will get its grand easily (it might have it already actually - I am unsure - it has enough group wins to qualify though). Good examples of rare breeds do win at group level here in SA on a regular basis. In terms of keeping people at shows - Dogzonline point score is doing that nicely . One Belgian Shepherd in one State. Name me the last Leonberger or Pharoah Hound. The Dogzonline point score is keeping the Grand Champions showing. Look at who leads each State and breed. Point score won't keep me showing but a change back in the GC conditions probably will.

Every time there is a posting about GC titles, those who post have the strong opinion that the title should be tougher to obtain. Just so readers are in no doubt that they are more than qualified to express an educated opinion, we are also told about the number of GC's they have. Congratulations. Having a GC would be quite an achievement. Another topic discussed often is the declining attendance at shows. I think returning to the old system will keep people showing. As a case in point, I have two dogs here who have in excess of 250 points each. I said to my husband in the past week that once we did the shows they are currently entered for that I would stop showing them as there was nowhere to go with them. They win their far share of in group classes but I rarely see the breed take off Group or In Show. Should the old system return, I will strongly consider keeping going. It is fine if those with a Poodle, Lab, Sibe, Cav, Akita, Staffie, etc want to make it tougher fora GC title. You have plenty of opportunities of 25 point challenges and your breeds are popular choices for in group or in show. I counted up the dogs for a few of the rarer breeds at the last two Royals and neither would have been a 25 point challenge. When was the last time you heard of a Leonberger, Pharoah Hound, Tibetan Mastiff, Belgian Sheherd taking out a group if BIS award? Not very often. Shouldn't they have an opportunity at a Grand title if they want to get out there and show? What does it matter If a dog that isn't your choice is a GC title holder? What does it matter to you if they get stud fees to their dog supposedly because of the title but you don't stand your dog anyway? I believe that you should all think outside your own breeds and start thinking about the whole dog world. It is all very well to say that a good dog will win what is currently required but the fact is that they won't. There are some very fine dogs amongst the rare breeds but they will never be awarded.

So Much For Going To The Royal Melbourne Show!
TessnSean replied to Andisa's topic in General Dog Discussion
The gate to Flemington Racecourse fronting Epsom Road is open 24 hours a day. That is a legal requirement for access to the stables on the Racecourse. The other gate off Fisher Parade should have been open as well. Who told you your car would be towed? People on the show grounds or outside in the streets? If it was on the Showgrounds, then they always say that . I showed horses and there were times when a car would sit illegally parked for 2 or 3 days before they towed it away. It would still take longer to get an impound tow track there to cart your car away than you intended to stay. These exaggerated threats by officialdom only catch out the people who want to do the right thing and just want a tiny bit of help. -
There is a notice in the last Vic Gazette that puppies are not to be entered as Registration Pending.

Hand up. I don't know why but I marked it as the 19th. Went to do entries last Friday and realized I was a week out.

Have no idea what they are called but Spotlight have them in their crafts / jewelery section (and lots of nice beads etc). Thanks Bisart. I will look Saturday. I have tried searching findings, crimps and even miscellaneous But can't find anything. I meant Bunnings of course but auto correct on the iPad changed it :D
-
I have decided to make my own leads but I wont be setting up a business to sell them because I am time poor enough as it is. So I have paracord - tick. Beads- tick. Spacers - tick. What I need help with is the correct name of the metal clamp thingies that you out on either side of your beads to stop them sliding up and down the paracord. I have searched eBay and heaps of the beading web sites but can not seem to find them. Does anyone know what they are called or where you get them? Buntings? Spotlight? Thank you in advance

The story one features on the Herald Sun website so I have linked that to my FB. It is one of the featured stories so will make the paper tomorrow. Hopefully all the publicity will get them back. We once had a Doberman stolen and got her back via 3 AW, A neighbor called us. After hearing the lost call.

Agree with Sway/ I hope he is ok.

I use a Mac and do my entries via Show Manager. They have a certain number of dogs free and then you spy a minimal amount for more than that. The thing I like is that you can add judges and record your results. No confusion about the number of points you have either as you can print those out when you have recorded your results.
-
I wasn't correcting you. I was just adding the Junior result because I knew that one and it wasnt in your post.
-
Mini Schnauzer was Junior

Congratulations. Those last points are so exciting.

I had my first 10 names rejected and the reasons on several was 'overseas prefix' so they do check. I thought I had searched fairly well because I could not find the rejected prefixes anywhere. The others were rejected because of 'too common a word" That stumped mr because it was a simple word that I made up

Thank you Josuki and Rebanne. You are both posters I respect so I appreciate your comments.
