This is quite a common issue, from my experience, with this breed. My friend picked up a lab puppy, took it to the vet for a check up within 72 hours and the overbite was a good 20mm. Maybe more. I helped her select this girl at 6 weeks and there was no overbite. From that experience, it is possible the breeder didn't notice especially if they don't make it practice to check the mouth to check with the new owner at hand over. I do and photograph the bite at the same time so there is no comeback when a vet says the bite isn't right. It has happened and it is the best protection. Top jaw grows faster than the bottom jaw and they don't set until 8 to 10 months. It is far too early to predict how much it will correct. It may end up perfect or it may not. I think it is far too early to talk about outcomes yet and I am really surprised you got referred off to a specialist this early. A good vet should have measured and said come back in a month. Talk to the breeder. They easily may not have known. Be prepared that their solution might be to return the puppy and take another. That isn't wrong. It is being a responsible breeder and it may not suit you as you are attached to the puppy. Don't give up that the bite won't correct. Educate yourself on the growth progress of top and bottom jaw. Lots of articles out there in Google land that will both reassure and frighten you so balance it out. Good luck

I sent 3 emails and left 3 voicemail messages for Martin over the space of 6 weeks and I did not get a single reply or call back. I wanted to order 2 trolleys, one for me and one for a friend and told him that. Based on my experience, I will not recommend him to anyone.

Give the secretary a ring and see if there are Jack Russell's entered. Explain you don't need to know who so they don't think you are an exhibitors us sing the competition. Probably the twilight is better. Often people skip the Sunday show as they want to travel home for work on Mondat. Don't forget the insect repellant. The flies stick like glue there!

Lancefield caravan park. They allow dogs but not in the cabins

It hasn't reached 40 degrees yet and I spoke to people who were at the show last night and they said it was quite ok. The only mistake, I think, was to cancel the AM show today. That could have been over before the hottest part of the day. As for what will people do - any number of things. Go to the Showgrounds to the pavilion. Go to one of the parks or go to Lake Eppalock which is where one of my friends headed. The carry on over this cluster really illustrates how true damned if you do and damned if you don't is. They should have cancelled earlier or later. They should have cancelled them all, cancelled none or cancelled less than they did. The notices weren't circulated enough despite being here and all over FB. the worst complaints have come from people who didn't enter in the first place!

How Awesome Is Show Manager On Dol
TessnSean replied to teddywaddy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have been using Show Manager for a few years now and recommend it to anyone when they are looking for an easy way to do paper entries. The enhancements in the past 6 months make it so easy to do entries. -
The list was a real eye opener for me. When I showed in group 2 , you would only see Westies at maybe 2 of 5 shows and it was always the same breeder. Shows who is breeding the majority.

2007 Diesel Sante Fe here and the tank is 75 litres. It is diesel and we get just on 1000klms per tank. We lay down the back seat and get gazebo, trolley, chairs, table, grooming stuff and 4 x 24" crates in the back with ease.

Bait all over the ring is the bane of those at the end of a group. You could feed a dog for a week on all the stuff pitched around and too bad if you have a food orientated breed at the end. I struck a judge some months ago who threatened to toss exhibits out if they didn't pick up their bait.

They used a tracking dog yesterday and found 2 trails. The Toyota seen picking up the dog was the owner but great to know that people are observant. The 2 still missing are litter sisters only 5 months old

Lost / Stolen @ Noorat Champ Shows 10/03/2013

That is good news. There are some real worms around but really they are in a minority compared to the number of people who show. -
Lost / Stolen @ Noorat Champ Shows 10/03/2013

Hope she gets it back but based on our experience, I would say she will be paying to replace them The specially made dog bed swiped at Echuca has never been sited at a show since so I guess that got kept for home. Friends had a set of Altegra walls taken from the back of their ute at KCC. They moved the ute to the roadway behind their gazebo and were walking back and forth loading up. The walls were taken in less than 5 mins. I won't even mention the $450 it cost me to get the ding removed from the car door courtesy of someone at Benalla. Seems to be the way things are these days -
The Toll guy in Melbourne in Melb said ours wasn't booked in and there were frantic calls to Wayrod to fix. If you have 2 sheets of paper it is always a good idea to read the one underneath the top one. Wayrod then called the people who bought the puppy to ask if all was ok when they collected him. They were really impressed with the service. I wouldn't use anyone else

I heard about the incident at the time but was only told who the judge was. I was very surprised at the penalty. On another note, it was being well circulated at Bendigo at the weekend that one of those connected to the letter (not the writer) has had anonymous phone calls promising their dogs will be poisoned if this motion passes. Meet someone down a dark lane if that is how pathetic you are but leave the dogs alone.

New Dog From Breeder.. Something Not Right......
TessnSean replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
It could also be that she was so attached to the breeder and her family that she is grieving for them at present. I have one here that is a very sensitive girl. We got her at 14 months and she was very, very shy for a good 6 to 8 weeks. When I visited her in quarantine she hid under bed She has come right out of her shell now and is happy and outgoing. Visitors come and she will hide from them but does come around much quicker than when she arrived. Her breeders were amazed that she was so shy to start with. They sent me pictures before she came of her out and about at shows, markets and parks so I know she she was socialized. Just give her some time. -
Thanks for the learned advice Christina. Is that a serious reply or sarcasm? Overseas breeders dock a few days after birth. When did you last select your show dog at less than 1 week of age?
-
yes and that breeder made an example of, but no need to punish the good ones. The good ones who dock tails? the ones outlaying huge amounts of money to import fresh bloodlines, the ones who do actually have to dock a pup/dogs tail due to genuine problems. If there is any real proof that some people are breaking puppies tails just so they can be docked then they need to be punished. Is there actually proof ? If vets actually beleived this to be the case as was written they are obliged by law to report abuse. So therefore there should be proof or it should be withdrawn. It is a disgraceful accusation to make. Exactly the point I made in my first reply. If the allegations are correct, it is reprehensible not to report it for action. If they are hearsay, then they have no place in the motion.
-
Exactly. I am anti docking myself but that is irrelevant to my objection to the motion. The motion is based on 3 things. Dogs are being cropped illegally ( no proof provided but lots of emotive hyperbole) Dogs are being marked as imported and they are really located in Australa the whole time (no proof provided) Docked dogs win more Forget about the legality of docking or your personal views and think about the broader picture. Who will this affect and why?
-
This time, I agree with Showdog. I have some imports here and 3 of 4 have docked tails. Those 3 were docked before I selected them and the 4th had the tail left undocked at my request. What isn't in the proposal but is being very widely circulated speaking to people who knew about this before it was submitted is that the docked dogs will also be banned from breeding. Before you jump on me and say that there is nothing like that in the motion, consider that that are some incredibly serious allegations in the motion based on no more fact than the writer put them in a letter. I am horrified that someone could hold a position of influence and standing and make allegations of both illegal and cruel acts and do nothing. If it happened, take action and throw the full weight of the law at the perpetrator . If it is a Chinese whisper, with no more proof than "I heard" , "I was told so I can't do anything" then it has absolutely no place in correspondence written on Dogs Victoria letterhead. Same is true of the allegations of fraud and false pertaining to AQIS and waybills. That is a very serious allegation to make when I don't know of any charged or found guilty of such an offence. A Federal offence no less. What is the basis for that allegation? If it is based on fact, why haven't any of the office bearers taken action to have the guilty parties charged? If there is insufficient proof then it is hearsay and has no place in the motion. Even the statement that docked dogs win more isn't supported by what is in front of us on Dogzonline and the OS judges I have watched recently, put up more tailed dogs than docked ones. My considerable investment in new bloodlines in to this country should not be derailed by a personal agenda that has nothing to do with me and my chosen breed

Thanks Rebelquest :) Agree with the others. The committee did a great job.
